Rams and Gators thinking he's an island:
I don't get what people see in Davis, is it just the athleticism or is there something on tape that makes you think he could be a starter? And if so why did he go undrafted?
No man is an island R&G. I don't see anything there either. Of course I don't really see anything with any of our UDFAs. Except that punter guy.

I didn't think we needed one to start with :fighting:.

Maybe not to start, but if there's anything we've learned watching the Rams is you can never have too many CBs on the roster. We were pulling guys off the street the a couple years ago (can't remember if it was '11 or '12). I'd love one in the 2nd; especially w/ an acquired extra pick from a trade down.

Davis is a football player with superior tools, I want to see if he can play.

No I definitely think we need to draft one in at least the top 3 rounds, just having a bit of fun with Alan.

I thought we drafted him?

Pass me a glass of that train. :)

I have hopes for several of them but it's leavened by a healthy dose of reality. You cross your fingers and I'll cross my toes.

He's one of those guys that has all the tools. He's not considered a ball hawk, but he has the tools to be as good as he wants. Stewart leaving gives him opportunity. Plus if we don't draft a S we can focus on another position.

we dont have to draft anybody. Reid reminds me of mathieu. A strait up playmaker. Nothing against Cody but he does nt have playmaking ability like Reid. I will give it to Davis he was a solid tackler in college. But he was missing tackles in pre season thats why he got cut originally imo. Reid looks like the Ball Hawk we been missing

I like the signing. I just wonder how much stock the FO puts into it. Nickel CB is a big need for us over safety. That's where he'll be plugged, IMO.

He was cut? Never mind-I knew he was on the practice squad, but I didn't ever consider that being "cut". Technically it is though since he's not on the 53.

Let's hope he's healthy. If the knees aren't problematic, he's demonstrated himself to be a good college player.

yea he made to the final cut then was released then assign to practice squad couple days later

So would it be protocol to put him through an extensive physical before signing him to any type of deal? Including a non-guaranteed deal?

OK, Greg Reid is a home town guy. He went to school with both my sons and he was outstanding in HS here. He is big trouble to try and catch on the field when he makes an INT and is one hell of a punt returner. He is small, doesn't seem to like to tackle and is one hell of a problem child. He got away with it in high school. He got away with it for awhile at FSU. He hangs out with the wrong crowd, he can't help but to smoke pot and always seems to have some issue going on. Despite many trying to help him out he finds a way to get into a tight spot. After getting kicked out of the FSU program, he came here to play for Valdosta State University but tore an ACL I think in the first game. He's fast, nifty, has a nose for the ball, and an uncanny sense of space on the field. I shutter to think of him and Janoris hanging out. Maybe Janoris has matured to the point that he can mentor Greg and they could be hell together in the secondary. One can only hope this turns out positive.

Love that inside knowledge Ramhusker! :)
I just talked to a booster of the HS team he played for that is a good friend of mine. He says Greg has matured greatly over the last 18 months. Maybe he is finally realizing this is his last shot. He also told me that Greg signed a 3 year deal. I didn't know if that had been reported yet. And I misspoke in my previous post. I said he doesn't like to tackle. I should of said he didn't llike to wrap up. He indeed likes to hit. He participated in the FSU pro day and impressed from what I hear. He must have. My guess is the Rams view him as a return specialist and will probably still draft a CB, a big one I hope.

So, since we signed him, do we still draft a CB early or grab a mid and late round CB instead? If he works out, seems like he fills our hole at nickle.

I like this. Reid was a UDFA I wanted to take a shot on before he tore his ACL again. Kid can play. He's undersized but I think he could contribute as a slot CB for us. He's feisty as hell. Remember that he gave Michael Floyd and Alshon Jeffery everything he had when he played them despite being severely out-sized. Plus, he was a good special teamer.

Smart signing here. Low risk with decent reward considering we need CB depth. I really like it.
