Rochell was my sleeper this year.
With you on this kid. Like @den-the-coach said, if this had been a normal year with the combine, I don't think we
get him as late in the draft, as we did. He has some special physical gifts. If he puts in the work, he can be a stud.

I also think of all of our rookies Ernest Jones will be one of the first to start. I think they took him with all
intentions of him starting this year.

That was a good watch because it felt like training camp. Good to hear early impressions.

DeMarco seemed a little talkative. :D
LMAO. Are you responsible for putting John Holmes as the #69th pick?
Does the "LS" Stand for long snapper or "long slong"?

Beginning? Lol the guy can't play. We knew this his sophomore year when he got abused repeatedly once a starter. Tons of rookies come in and make an impact but he couldn't even do anything in his 2nd year. Doubt he ever plays another snap for us. Would much rather have Shelton get a shot. Its Allen's 4th year in the pros already. He's donezo
Haha, have to agree with you although he does have his supporters here. I thought I'd indicated my 'beginning of the end' comment was tongue in cheek with the '...' at the end. lol

DAMN!! @ 7: 58 Jacob Harris looks like a tree next to the rest of the guy's
He looked like he was 7' tall, instead of 6'5. That's a big ass target.
Good pull. Holy shit! He looked like a monster! Hope he can run routes and catch the egg. Can't wait to see him in pre-season.

10 Observations from the Rams' May 27 OTA session

May 27, 2021 at 04:46 PM

The Rams' organized team activity session on Thursday, May 27, was open to the media. Here are staff writer Stu Jackson's 10 observations from it:

1) The preliminary first-team offensive line had Austin Corbett at center and Bobby Evans at right guard. Corbett was the team's starting right guard last year, while Evans was a reserve offensive tackle. Rams head coach Sean McVay went into detail about both players' fits at their respective positions during his video conference with reporters after the session, and the common elements to both were that they had the athleticism and football IQ to be able to slide over into those spots.
McVay also noted Corbett played along the interior at both right guard and left guard, which helps with the transition, as well as the fact that he played "200-plus snaps" at center for his former team, the Browns, during the preseason two years ago. As for Evans, McVay said his quickness will allow him to kick inside and play guard, in addition to that athleticism.

2) Speaking of the center position, the rotation consisted of Corbett, Coleman Shelton and Brian Allen, aligning with what McVay mentioned after the draft in terms of the internal candidates for replacing Austin Blythe.

2) Rookie wide receiver Tutu Atwell was getting reps with the punt returners, confirming what he told reporters yesterday. Atwell had limited experience with it in college with just four – all during his 2019 sophomore season – but that was primarily because defensive back Rodjay Burn and running back Hassan Hall handled those duties. Hall was an All-ACC Second Team selection as an all-purpose player and Third Team selection as a specialist in 2019. As shown by his wide receiver film and 4.32-second 40-yard dash at Louisville's pro day, Atwell's speed makes him an attractive option as new Rams special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis continues to evaluate the position. One of those four punt returns in college went for 50 yards, for what it's worth.

3) Taylor Rapp had a couple of pass breakups during team drills, the first of which was a near-interception. The other came during redzone work on a Matthew Stafford pass intended for Mundt. It was nice seeing him active and those instincts on display again after being limited to nine games due to injury last season.

4) Play of the Day: Stafford connected with wide receiver Cooper Kupp on a deep pass toward the right sideline during team drills.

5) Play of the Day, Part 2: Van Jefferson also had a nice catch in traffic near the right sideline. While it wasn't on a deep pass like Kupp's, Jefferson still hauled Stafford's pass in with cornerback David Long Jr. in tight coverage.

6) Stafford's arm talent on display: Besides the above example, there was also a no-look, side-arm pass, plus several passes fired into tight windows with ease during redzone drills.

7) As detailed in this May 7 piece on what set Atwell apart, one of the things that set Atwell apart is his elite quickness off the line of scrimmage. That was seen Thursday, with Atwell using it to separate from his defender and bring in a short pass from Stafford near the left sideline.

8) Flashback to Hard Knocks: Safety JuJu Hughes had his signature toothpick in his mouth.

9) Already buying in: Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris during today's session wore a #DAWGWORK shirt created last year by run game coordinator and defensive line coach Eric Henderson as a credo for his group.

10) A clean bill of health for the Rams so far during spring workouts. From an injury standpoint, McVay told reporters that other than the "typical bumps and bruises," there was "nothing that would be significant to note."

I'd put Rapp in at the LB/S spot. If they are going to stay true to Staley's scheme there will rarely be a "box" safety pre-snap, they also used both safeties in deep coverage. Rapp played ok last season but so did Burgess.

As for Burgess playing nickel I wonder if this is something that the coaches are considering? Has there been any mention or report from the staff? Or is this just fans snowballing off of each other and a scouting report?

Overall I think that we're in a great spot at Safety, Scott even looked good. I think that we'll probably all 3 on the field at various points this season.
With Travin Howard back maybe they put Rapp at Safety.

iirc Snead mentioned that Burgess has and can play the slot.

Scott is often overlooked, but he is another late round steal it appears. Just getting a late 7th to contribute is great, but getting starter snaps and playing well is awesome.

Scott was a running back in college who switched to safety his junior or senior year. He was considered the best athlete on the team but there were faster RBs on the team but they didn't want to waste him. But the late position switch may have caused him to be available in round 7
The starting slot role. Top two are set. DJax is new and a threat to him. How is Jefferson going to handle it? If he can't beat out DJax for that starting role he may find himself falling behind Tutu later in the season once he's got a good feel for the offense.

We're about to find out whether the Rams made a shrewd pick with Jefferson or whether he's going to be a guy who hangs around first contract as a bit player.
Van and Rapp were two picks I felt were too high for the player. Van couldn't beat out a 4th round receiver and now they draft another receiver in round two. Rapp is a good player but they've drafted better safeties later rounds.

DeMarco runs hot and cold for me. He didn't seem to be at the top of his game.

Finally some news about TC. Irvine it is! Great for me as I'm only a few miles away. I'll be at most, if not all practices and posting some thoughts here at ROD.

Yes, and it was smart to identify him and select him

You are one of my favorite posters @Elmgrovegnome

I need you to enlighten me though.

I never understood the Travin Howard talk or expectations

Travin Howard
LB 6'0 219 lbs
Stats: 13 career tackles

April 28, 2018: Traded by Redskins as 2018 7th round pick (231st overall) with 2018 6th round pick (205th overall, Trevon Young) to Rams for 2018 6th round pick (197th overall, Shaun Dion Hamilton) and 2018 7th round pick (256th overall, Trey Quinn)

March 26, 2021: Los Angeles Rams re-signed LB Travin Howard.

September 5, 2020: Los Angeles Rams placed LB Travin Howard on IR.

October 17, 2018: Los Angeles Rams added LB Travin Howard to the practice squad.

September 10, 2018: Los Angeles Chargers cut LB Travin Howard.

September 7, 2018: Los Angeles Rams waived LB Travin Howard.

September 2, 2018: Los Angeles Rams placed LB Travin Howard on IR.

September 1, 2018: Los Angeles Rams waived LB Travin Howard.

I continue to hear his name in LB discussions as if he's got a really high ceiling and might make his way in the Rams LB rotation.

I think he's only mentioned due to him being favorably talked about by coaches and beat reporters. He finished 2019 well and was the favorite to play alongside Micah Kiser last season.

To be honest, other than seeing him play well in a few good games near the end of 2019, and reportedly a good summer in 2020, until injured, none of us have much to go on other than what we've heard from Rams news outlets. He was a safety/linebacker tweener, so he could be thought of as a better pass coverage option than Kenny Young. Or maybe he doesn't do enough to supplant Young.

Thanks for the compliment btw.

I think the plan with him is to take over for kupp or woods after this season

Wouldn't rule that out. I figured they may move Woody or Kupp this past offseason in fact but it didn't happen. But for that to be the plan he has to prove he can fill the role. If he doesn't take a step forward this season that won't be the plan for long.
