"Stringent symptom screening" for players?

Yeah, right.

Players will have plenty of incentive to downplay their symptoms if they get sick, so they can avoid getting tested.

Not saying that's right or wrong-- just pointing out that players will probably focus on minimizing any symptoms so they are available to play.

Can anyone give me any information on how to keep up with the Rams players that will not be able to play this Tuesday against the Seahawks due to Covid?

Seems like a Revolving Door!!!

Also, Curious on with all the players being put on this COVID (Or, Whatever!) list I am wondering how that affects all the NFL Teams salary cap situations (I am guessing teams are having to sign/add a LOT of Free Agents to fill their rosters?!).

not sure where to post this and i hope i’m wrong, but didn’t coleman shelton sit out last year due to being high risk? And the rams brought in two centres on practice squad…

Shelton played last year.

Brewer opted-out.

But there may well be some NFL players opt-out by Monday’s deadline.

Per Peter Schrager, Jalen Ramsey is coming-off the COVID-List.

One of the best follows for info.

I may be wrong, but isn't the salary cap based on the top 50 players salary?

Most of these guys moving up and down the PS shouldn't impact the cap at all

Are we really witnessing a reasonable approach?

I do credit McVay starting this dialog this past Monday after the game. He questioned why asymptotic people are not able to play.

Man what a great coach and just a good man.
I'd hardly call it a reasonable approach to have positive folks play for the sake of fielding a team with no symptoms. It's bigger than football when you are talking about positive cases. I take it more as a coach who saw half his roster not available and was thinking of a way to field a team as that's his main objective. McVay is definitely a good dude and it is definitely healthy to start a dialogue about cases on the rise as it pertains to player testing. However, I hope the approach is not specifically tied into let's make money vs player/community safety as these players do travel throughout the US. Hopefully the new testing for how contagious these players are works, but it sounds we'll have to wait and see. I hope it does as that would go a long way to keep people safe and allow teams to get players back sooner which helps take care of both sides of this sensitive matter. It's obvious fatigue on this has definitely set in with players which is understandable. This whole thing sucks all the way around as I'm sure these guys just wanna play ball.

The most telling thing I heard from KD, these guys even the ones displaying mild symptoms would be playing any other time if we weren’t dealing with a covid issue.

Next, someone is making a hell of a lot of money related to the testing and the NFL
Someone's always making money off of the NFL. It's a billion dollar business lol.....now I'm sad I haven't found a way to get a piece of that pie, thanks for the reminder lol

Totally agree. Players know how fast they can lose jobs to injuries and probably look at COVID as the same thing as it could definitely impact them losing out on opportunities for a roster spot or getting a raise in their next contract.

There are many questions surrounding this virus. One is the reliability of the testing. Think Higbee and OBJ.

I do not think it is fair to label McVay as someone whose only concern is fielding a team. At that moment he was frustrated that you wake up game day and find out you lost two leaders on your team that are asymptomatic. One an all pro. And there are still valid questions of asymptomatic spread to begin with.

The league I believe has taken a much more reasonable approach to this crazy virus.

Well I'm not strictly labeling him that way but the fact is his job as a head coach is to field a competitive team and he was rightly questioning how to do that with a crap load of guys out. I can't blame him at all. No coach should have to ponder how to get around this virus because it's unfair to ask them to. However, these decisions should be left to the medical professionals in charge as anyone like a coach, owner, or players would have bias factor in as they only want to worry about playing ball which I totally understand. Definitely a crazy time and definitely a question on how this new testing will work. The league is attempting to take a reasonable approach but is it towards making money or actual player/common safety? To me, history says the NFL could give a crap about safety and is worried about money lost. I hope the testing they are now relying on for how contagious one is does work as that would be a game changer in every faucet of life. The NFL would be applauded for this stumbling upon this approach which I think they don't fully deserve. I'd give way more credit to the medical folks who made the decision to take this new approach towards testing. Eventually calculated gambles have to be made as everyone is super fatigued over this virus. Lastly, yes asymptomatic people can spread the virus, but to what level that can be determined via these viral load tests is the billion dollar question.

Well said.

I too am curious about testing for viral loads. It may be an opportunity for the entire scientific community to get this data in this type of environment.

As much we think we know, there is so much more we don't.

I hope so. We all need some breakthrough to get us all out of this rut. I'm sure everyone would be onboard for that.

What exactly is at risk here though. This new strain doesn't seem to be lethal. In fact there are somewhere around what, 300 players to date that have tested positive for Covid. Has anyone died?

I think that matters. If you don't consider that side of things then you can't know whether your approach is appropriate.
