Love the defense's numbers. But, I can't help but to notice that they really haven't played that many teams with top QBs yet.

Nor will we. We have five division games left (no top QBs there unless we are saying Darnold is, which....I guess. But he's in the Daniel Jones tier to me at best).

Rattler, Penix, Bryce

That just leaves Baker and Goff. Goff has looked very mortal against teams with a pass rush, and godlike against teams without. We get both at home too..

We would need Witherspoon back if we run into Philly again. Here's the cool thing though...

The Lions, Seahawks, Niners and Bucs have some great WRs - but ones that our CB group can match up against decently. So while I would like to make a move there...I am starting to wonder if we'll be okay without

The area our defense struggles with is the Cover-2, for some reason it takes our DB's extra time to react. But I agree I'm thinking we could be okay as well.

Stroud - major issues with that Oline, going back to last year.

Ward - terrible so far.

Hurts - atore us a new one and we couldn’t stop the comeback.

Daniel Jones- we lose if Mitchell doesn’t have a Brian Fart.

Mac Jones - backup that tore us up in the middle.

Rushing - backup.

Lawrence - played well against him.

Our front is really good. Edges are top notch. Interior is excellent. Poona really improved our run D. Landman is a major upgrade. Safety’s are solid. Q has been excellent. CB’s have been serviceable.

We have really improved vs the run but have shown holes in pass converge and been lucky to have faced 2 backups, a struggling rookie and Stroud who is really struggling.

I personally would like to see the Rams match up on Man coverage more to give the pass rush a chance to get home. That game against the 9ers just drove me bonkers. Of course, I wanted to use another phase besides bonkers, but I tried to keep it clean for the board.

I am one who thinks there's been a bit of luck when it comes to the defense, for sure... but I also think they've been pretty darn good.
I appreciate where you're coming from in the tempered approach here, but I do think you may be selling the D a little short.

The couldn't stop AJ Brown, is how I would characterize the Eagles game.. and, there's still time to add a CB and, hopefully Spoon will be back later.
The Rams literally beat the Colts by 7.. so, no.. they would'n't have automatically lost. Further.. it's just impossible to know what would happen after that. The Rams were not outclassed in that game... and ... let's look at how effective they were in slowing Taylor. That was impressive.

But.. yeah.. I think the overall approach of "The stats paint a prettier picture" than the actual play is fair

You can pick apart any of the top defenses schedule so far. The Broncos and the Texans have both played a lot of the same teams as the Rams. Rams overall 2nd in points allowed and 2nd in sacks. 1st in forced fumbles. I’ll take that all day and I think the defense will continue to get better.

Can we say, "you are what your numbers say you are" just like "you are what your record says you are"?
If we’re talking about points scored and points allowed, I’d say Yes. The other stuff not so much.

All I'm gonna say is that we had better win a Super Bowl this year. Because we were lucky that Shula stayed on last year, and he more than deserves a head coach job in this league after what he's done the past year and a half.
Did he get an interview with anyone last year?

He has not had a head coaching interview yet, but given his bloodline, his mastery of defensive concepts, and his intelligence, it's not going to be long. If Staley got a head coaching job in one year leading the best defense, I can't imagine that Shula is going to be far behind.

I just have a gut feeling that he'll go to the Dolphins after this year. McDaniel is a sitting duck on the hot seat, the GM should be on the hot seat as well, and Shula is a legacy coach who focuses on the exact opposite as McDaniel (defensive play). It just makes too much sense.

It's also how well our defensive front can dominate their offensive line with the pressure we put on the quarterback.

One of the biggest things that is making our cornerbacks and all of our DBs look better is that amazing defensive line we have with the pass rush pressure making the quarterback rush his throws.

I really hope you’re wrong though I suspect you may be right if our defense continues to limit points the way his defense has.

I really hope to holy fate I'm wrong as well, and I will be more than happy to be wrong. I'm just seeing signs. This has to be the year we win with Stafford playing at an MVP level, a lot of our younger players not being paid a lot of money for outstanding production, and a top-notch coaching staff.

Has BY had the quietest 9 sacks you've ever seen? But yeah, @Soul Surfer, ..........I read one comment about losing AD, the greatest defensive player of recent memory, and still having a dominant DL is kind of amazing. Like BY, has Les Snead and McVay quietly assembled one helluva DL? I know there's a lot of football to be played but I look forward to watching the D play as much as the O and that's saying something with the way #9 is playing. I'll say it.....it's a great time to be a Ram fan!!!!

And yeah, :clinkingbeer:to having Shula!!!
