Some of these interviews are fact finding interviews.Not saying
that is the case with Vrabel.Demoff mentioned something to that affect
in "the search" interview.It's a good time to get honest feedback
concerning our team.

Pittsburgh didn't intend on hiring Tomlin, just wanted to satisfy the Rooney rule. He crushed it, and got the job.
I don't think any guy would view the opportunity to interview ever as a waste of time. No interview, no chance. An interview, no matter how slight, has a chance

I get your point,but it's all part of the process.
Let's just say for example that Vrabel is a fact finding interview.
If he continues to do a good job.There may be a team B who is
seriously considering him next year.They know the Rams interviewed
him the year before.They will contact the Rams and ask what they
think about him, when they interviewed.If he gave a good interview,The
Rams may say,Hey this guy has some great ideas.He just wasn't a fit for us at the time.
That could be the difference in whether Team B wants to bring in for a serious interview
or not.It's really a resume building kind of deal.

At the very least they get experience interviewing for that. They know what to expect for next time, and it circulates their name a bit more. Plus there's always a small chance they are that impressive and end up taking it anyway.

Now, if they're still in the playoffs, that's a different story. Don't distract someone from doing their job if you don't even intend to bring them in. I'd wait until they're eliminated, but by then it's usually too late.

Interviewing guys like Vrabel and Wilks is smart IMO even if they don't get the job. They are young up an coming guys who could surprise you, and if not you circumvent the rules and get a Defensive coordinator interview. As position coaches the Panthers and the Texans don't have to grant interviews for a defensive coordinator spot, but if it's a head coach interview they have to. Both guys will be coveted as Defensive Coordinators so if gives them a chance to impress the Rams or the Rams to impress them.

That's not really the way it was represented. It was represented as them interviewing these guys to find out more about the team, not because they were interested in hiring them all. Let's not make excuses and pretend this is a benefit. It's treating people like crap for the Rams' own benefit. If the Rams aren't intending to hire these guys, it's a dick move.

I don't want you to interview me if you aren't interested in hiring me. Because like most people, I put a ton of work and energy into prepping for an interview. If it's a job I really want and I don't get it, it hurts. It makes me question what I did wrong in the process. Screw the experience. Don't string me along. I don't need it.

I think I jumped in then not understanding the conversation. I think the Rams like him and probably think of him more as a DC than a HC, and get around the permission deal by making it a HC interview. Plus I think its awkward to interview a DC candidate when there isn't even a HC. But I would think if he got the invite, the Rams must have interest in him and what value he could bring to the Rams

I think you're assuming the Rams didn't come into this with an open mind. They clearly did to me. Just because they might have had other reasons for the interview, doesn't mean they wouldn't have considered a guy like Vrabel. I mean heck, look at McVay. He wasn't thought to be a serious candidate by many and now he's potentially the frontrunner. Vrabel comes off similarly. I don't think it comes off entirely as stringing him along.
