Remember the good old days when Kurt would make teams pay dearly if they dared to blitz.
Why don't these Rams have outlets to beat the blitz?
.
I remember those days too. But I also remember Martz - especially after the Rams lost the Super Bowl to the P*ts, getting away from that stuff, doubling and tripling down on the long developing routes and leaving Kurt out there without any extra protection. Got Warner fucking killed ... he ended up getting hurt in 2002 because of Martz trying to get cute and not adapting with him in there. And the majority of Rams fans blamed Kurt, oh no, it couldn't be the coaches fault for putting him in a bad situation ... nooooo they executed that before, they should still be able to execute, and never mind their 7 rushers against our 5 blockers with no dump off or hot read options ... aaaalll Warner's fault.
So what does Martz do when Warner goes out? Totally adjusts everything for Marc Bulger, who looks decent because he's getting the extra protection and better playcalls. Warner comes back later in that year, and Martz goes right back to doing the same shit that got Warner hurt and put him in bad positions time and time again, until of course, he gets hurt again. Martz ended up ruining the best QB the Rams have ever had, who got run out of town on a rail as if he was a washed up bum. And that QB went to a division rival and took them to the Super Bowl and damn near won it, with a coach that set him up for success instead of hanging him out to dry.
I don't care how good your QB is ... if your coach doesn't put him in a good position to be successful, they will struggle. Nobody can doubt Warner's talent or his HOF credentials, but when Martz started putting him in bad situations, repeatedly, he struggled. I hope our current coach learns that lesson. I've been very supportive of him but lately he's got me worried.
