McVay likely had conversations with Carberry prior to letting Kromer go.
This is my guess why the parting of the ways was so late. McVay wanted the right guy.

I bet if he didn’t close the deal on one of those on his short list, Kromer is still here...

If that's the case it's not only ruthless but Machiavellian behavior. Our coach wouldn't do that... would he?

Would he take reasonable steps to ensure the team doesn't fail because he fired the O line coach and couldn't get a good replacement? Good I hope he would.

Call it Machiavellian if you want, but I think that's just run of the mill good organizational planning. It's not like he engineered a situation to get Callahan fired and another to get Kromer to quit, then hired Callahan. He made sure he has a good replacement before he made a decision about paying ways with an adequate coach. And that's if he even was a part of the decision. I haven't heard any details. Maybe Kromer is just walking away.

Agreed. Doing it that way is a much better situation than having a very good coach leave because he got a better position on another team. When that happens a head coach may end up settling for less than what he originally had. I think that happened when LaFluer left. I fear it will happen with Linebackers and Cornerbacks coaches.

Maybe McVay learned from his mistakes when he did not resign Bones. He didn’t have an ace up his sleeve.

Rams might have a new Assitant OL coach now. Chris O'Hara

Rams assistant OL coach Chris O’Hara is also coming from Washington (ramsrule.com)

LA Rams News: Team fills nearly half of vacant coaching positions (ramblinfan.com)

Chris O’Hara – The LA Rams Assistant offensive line coach has connections with both OC Kevin O’Connell due to working on the Washington Football coaching staff in 2017, and with ST Coordinator Joe DeCamillas as their careers overlapped in 2020 on the coaching staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

O’Hara was a non-player football coaching assistant who has worked his way through the coaching ranks as associate and assistant. Now he will join newly-hired offensive line coach Kevin Carberry to prepare for a very busy offseason and get ready for the 2021 NFL season.

Sorry, but if McVay delayed firing Kromer for nearly two months in order to line up his replacement-- which I highly doubt, and which makes no sense-- it was the wrong thing to do. If the organization wants to hang coaches out to dry then it will earn and deserve a poor reputation for how it treats them.

But I was responding to speculation which seems extremely unlikely to me. If McVay could hire Carberry now he could have done so in early January. The supposed behavior would also be unworthy of McVay. In the past McVay has given coaches and players timely notice if they're fired or cut so they can compete for other opportunities.

The explanation that instead makes sense is that McVay and Kromer could not agree about the path forward-- that being the subject of intense discussion only AFTER the end of the season-- either with respect to personnel, or scheme, or both.

That’s a excellent point, Rams have NOT BEEN good at evaluating OL talent under Les’s watch. Let’s hope this was part of the hiring equation

Well we have a new QB now acquired just a few weeks ago. So things have changed since the day after the GB loss. Likely they’ve had discussions for the new offense with Stafford, plays, etc. - which the OL is a huge/main component of such. I’d guess that McVay and kromer disagreed on some concepts, OL usage, players, etc. Thus McVay realizing it would be best to utilizing someone else. Makes sense to me.

Where have they not been good at evaluating O-line talent?

Whitworth?
Sullivan?
Edwards?
Evans?
Corbett?
Blythe?
Noteboom?
Anchrum?
Shelton?
Brewer?

After watching the debacle of Fisher/Boudreau?

I would give Snead and McVay a solid A leaning towards an A+.

The only players they've picked that I don't particularly like are Brian Allen and Jamil Demby and they're actually still on the roster.

Whitworth? Wasn't hard to evaluate a guy on his way to the HoF
Sullivan? Was good for about half a year but was destroyed in the SB. Average player.
Edwards? Has been pretty good but needed injuries to get in over a guy who'd disappointed before getting hurt twice.
Evans? Do we know what he has in him? He's been ok at times when on the field.
Corbett? Pretty good at Guard this year but what is he going forward? Personal fan of him but to say he's anything special might be a stretch at this point.
Blythe? Had a good season/half season at Guard and is not good at Center.
Noteboom? He's not a guard we don't know what he is at tackle. Has injury issues.
Anchrum? What do we have? Like the guy but we don't know yet.
Shelton? A question mark
Brewer? Question mark 2.0

Jury is still out, McVay and Snead have had 1 great OL 1 good OL 1 bad OL and one that nobody can agree on what it was (2020). They also made the decision to let Saffold go which might be their biggest free agency blunder.

Interesting to see who the pair him with the new Assistant OL Coach, might be a former player, somewhat fiery, I know they had interviewed Giants Assistant OL Coach Ben Wilkerson, but that might have been for Kromer as worked with him in Chicago.

well right about Wilkerson, wrong about player coach.

His biggest hit was with veterans. His developee list here isn't all that impressive. To date we've thrown shade at Snead on that but maybe Kromes got the guys he wanted. I do think a lot of Edwards but Evans was quite shaky, Boom is a pipe dream, Blythe is a backup, and don't get me started on Demby.

I think highly of Kromer. But there is some room to question his track record it's got some spotty to it.

Hahahahahahahha!! You're just finding a cheap excuse to have a problem! It was sarcasm.

I'm always an optimist when it comes to the rams... but the thing that's cringe-worthy to me is the attitude that we can have all this turnover, lose key players, our entire coaching staff, our only good OL is 64 years old and not every hire will be an upgrade - but we should all act like it because McVay + Stafford.
I guarantee I'm not the only one here noticing some hypocrisy lately.

I believe in McVay and think Stafford offers an upgrade for a few years... but I don't subscribe to this instant contender fantasy.
Sorry that makes you supposedly cringe. I guess if you're trying to have a problem, it's easy to find one.

I don’t know what your take is on The Rams & O”Line. I do think The Rams are always trying to win & evolve as a team.
We can go down a list to see the light either way. To me it’s about The Rams Franchise right Now is the best I have seen in years.
I look at college football now a days & am not all that happy with the development of players coming out now a days, but even then there are upsides & down sides.

-your view is your view. Not sure if any problems with change if it works.Time Will tell. The fact The Rams are not afraid of cleaning house is a good thing as long as The Lockeroom is right.

Pipe Dream My Ass!! Like I say, time will tell. You seem to be getting into your Offseason stance as The Rams Offensive Line Sucks again.
I CALL FREAKING BS. That is all good now that there has been change with the Offensive Line coaches.
The Offensive Lineman remain the same NOW!! I’m all for just a little Rodcoin wager on Noteboom resigning with The Rams next season & will be a future starter.
In my opinion as much as I was a Kromer guy,I would look at The O@Lineman getting downfield & not blocking anyone. My thought was poor coaching. When I would go to training camp it was Zak Kromer who was coaching players up.
Andrew Whitworth I believe really likes The Rams Unit & we as Ram Fans will see Big Time Improvement. Matt Stafford will play the Biggest part on The Pass Rush. The Rams have good run blocking. What happens with Rob Havenstien will tell the direction The Rams will go in the draft.
