They trade up to make sure they get their guy. It was only a fourth and two practice squad guys.

Quite possibly, but in the long run, the picks they traded most likely won't make much difference.

Who the Vikings were going to take was not the issue, but who else the Vikes might have dealt that #3 to. The Browns keep their picks and Vikes deal to someone else who takes TR, Cleveland is SOL. After losing out on RG3, they couldn't afford to miss out on a second guy.
