They had 2 4th down stops in the 4th. Doesn't get any more crunchy time than that.
They only had 1 4th down stop in the 4th qtr and if not for a drop on a perfect pass from Brady in the end zone, we wouldn't have gotten that.

But the defense has some serious coaching issues in crunch time.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's what I've been saying for months.

This defense plays as they are being coached. People are blaming the players. To some degree this is legitimate. But overall the scheme and HOW IT IS PLAYED is all about the coaching.

I also think the failure of Terrell Burgess is indicative of failure to develop and that too is coaching. This coaching staff continually plays players outside of their capabilities. It's clear Kendrick isn't ready but he's starting over Rochell who played well last year before he was injured. Rapp excelled in Phillip's scheme when played as an inside the box SS. Now Morris plays him as a deep safety? There are more questions with player usage.

I think it's legitimate to question how the defense is being played. Are people really happy with a 13th ranked defense with the superstars they have on it? Staley had less talent but played it aggressively and had a number 1 ranked unit.

I can't remember when one of those were, so ok. But they still had 2 stops.

And if Asante Samuel hadnt dropped that Eli Manning pass Tommy would be a 19-0 QB.

The sequence happened how it did, and Jalen made the 4th down stop.

I don't call giving up a FG a stop but if you do - we can agree to disagree on that point and I won't think lesser of you for thinking that

That's just preference rather than opinion

Lol..

You still can't address the reality of the defense's overall performance because you don't like the way it looks and because it fell apart on that last drive.

I *know* how it looks.. and I don't give a fuck. I care about it's overall effectiveness, because football is a team game that spans 60 minutes.

Your view on that 60 minutes is that because the defense fell apart there, it's a disaster scheme that needs to be thrown out, along with the coaches.

My view is that they did their job and a catastrophically bad offense is an anchor pulling the entire team down.

My view is that the defense never should've had to get back on the field after the last stop.
And my view is the one the team has.

You talk about the Rams not having the personnel to run their scheme.. they are running EXACTLY the scheme for the personnel on the field. If there's a mis-evaluation of Rochell or another CB that could put Kendrick on the bench? That's one thing.. but if you want to be more aggressive with that kid, be ready to be beaten over the top.. again... and again.. and again. They only are rolling Rapp and Scott at safety... you gonna put either one of them in single coverage????

You're a good, smart poster. You wrote about how shitty Lewis has been.. and how Floyd is pretty invisible most of the time. You know they ain't got it.

You also posted this..

And it's more right than you know. Especially when it comes to the conversation about the defense... but it's right in a way you're not getting.
I don’t give a shit how the defense looks, does it work? The answer is no.

Literally the only stat you try and throw your direction to support your faulty logic is 16 points.

Let me ask, is that more or less than we scored?

A defenses job is to keep the opposing offense score less than your points. Utter basic of the game of football. Might want to study up on those Just a FYI.

You’re creating arguments up in your head, stop that.

Faulty logic?????

Holy shit, my dude!!!

You’re so up your own ass at this point, you’re making stupid shit up.

And… omg… using the amount of points scored against is a bad stat?

If you think the only way to measure a defense is IN RELATION to the team’s offense??? I wonder what the rest of your real world calculations look like.. lol.

You are, literally, holding the defense to a different standard.

I really need to look at the first 3 quarters vs the 4th quarter in all 22

I have been saying over and over that we mixed up our defensive scheme in the first 3 quarters from soft to 1 CB pressing his man after the first series. And it was working.

Then in the 4th qtr, we went 100% soft and TB just drove down the field with 0 resistance until they got to the red zone. And that's when we stiffened up.

But again, I need to rewatch the first 3 quarters to verify my statement with 100% accuracy.

There was some mixing of the defensive scheme but nothing compared to that 4th quarter abomination we seen.

I mean i don’t agree with it but at least keep doing what you were doing, it was working against one of the shit offenses like our in the league.

Then you go ultra soft shell and don’t even call something that covers the sidelines? Fucking dude needs to be canned.

I gotta point out how fundamentally fucking stupid some of this is…

If someone were *actually* defending the defense, no matter what.. if the Rams lost 45-50…. The response would be..”well, it’s the offense’s responsibility to score more to win”…

And that would be a stupid fucking take.

I do. Holding to FGs = stop IMo in modern NFL.

I could've sworn they had another 4th down stop tho. Oh well...I've moved on from this game.

That’s the problem it’s not one possession, it’s continuously wrecking situational football defensively.

News flash: we don’t have Von Miller anymore to contain and create pressure which this type of defensive scheme needs.

It’s not working, and if your defensive scheme is not working at any point when you need to, it’s time to consider something else.

So now you admit that the last defensive drive was shitting the bed? They have shit the bed in the most important moments this season.

Here, watch and learn. Your vaunted stonewall defense at work.

It's like watching the end of SB36 all over again.

Thanks for that...

I think we played more man in the 1st half

but definitely went back to the soft zone in the 4th

So by that logic if your punter forces the opposition to start on their own 10 yard line and they march down the field and kick a FG that in your mind constitutes a stop? What happened to forcing them to an early punt and perhaps giving decent field position to your struggling offense? IMO NFL world that is a stop. Conceding points is not a stop. It's simply giving them 3 points instead of 7. IMO a stop is when you don't give up any points.

No wonder so many people are okay with Morris' soft zone conceding 3 points philosophy. The only way teams don't score is if they make a mistake, i.e. stop themselves. Morris rarely forces the stop. IMO NFL world Morris' defense means sacrificing field position, time, and offensive possessions all in the name of "not giving up the explosive play" which Morris' poorly coached unit often does. IMO any DC that factors in hope that the offense makes a mistake into his scheme is a shit poor DC.

Morris’ D is one of the tops in the NFL this year at forcing 3 & outs.

Womp womp.

The fact that you’re equating the two shows just how wildly disconnected from reality you are.

They know.. because it’s fact. The numbers and what we see in the field show this is a catastrophic offense.

You CANNOT make that case with the D!! It’s top 10, for fuck’s sake!!

A top 10 defense "Should" stop a 32nd ranked offense from driving down the field in a near impossible situation.
60 yards, 44 seconds, no timeouts... less than 1% chance of scoring a TD.

Yet the Playcalling, and on field performance of the Defense allowed them to do just that.
That is a huge red flag something is wrong with this Defense.
That has nothing to do with the offense.

No they were not tired. They are paid professional athletes.
I used to play competitive Racquetball, football, martial arts and know what it's like to be gassed.
With all the out of bounds TB took time between plays.
They time to get their wind back.

If Tony Dungy, Tony Romo, Rex Ryan and many others are saying what I typed, your point is moot.
You Cannot defend this defense.
