It was Dolac over Paul. Not reeder over Paul. McVay already alluded to the fact that Paul couldn’t play special teams and the Rams weren’t keeping two rookies out of four guys at inside linebacker.

I have a question about Pooh Paul. McVay said he kept Dolac and Reeder over Pooh Paul because they played on all 4 ST squads. What kept Pooh Paul from doing that? No 'want to'? I'm thinking it may be there is a culture to protect and lack of 'want to' has got to be #1 reason for pink slip.

Paul played with Reeder all summer. He knows Reeder was a ST/depth vet. He knows what Redder is/isnt capable of. I sure as hell hope the Rams tried to get Paul on the PS and I sure as hell hope Paul didn’t turn it down as he should have been motivated to merely get better than Reeder to get on the 53. Not a high bar to clear.

It's not that we lost Paul that I am upset about. It's about keeping Reeder on the team instead of Paul that bothers me.

I just want Reeder nowhere close to the team.

And Paul in game 1 looked to have some ability in that game. More so than Reeder ever showed.

But then again, I am just an armchair fan whose knowledge of the game is nothing compared to McVay and Snead.
Hear me out, what if Reeder is better on ST? And Jim put some vid up on Pooh looking pretty meh on ST.

It's not like we don't have a bunch of work to do to improve our ST coverage. It's been putrid for years.

I get all that Pupped. I'm just used to the Rams braintrust obsessing over marginal players and letting promising prospects go. Paul and Lampkin the latest. Paul to Shecocks and Lampkin to Iggles. I think the Rams fucked themselves.
How fucked are they? Think we'll miss the playoffs?

Just saying Paul isn’t a loss for this team but since you don’t care let’s move on lol
Just to be clear - not the Paul loss but the Reeder gain that is my point. I don't care that Paul wasn't up against Reeder. I just don't want Reeder on the team period. And even though Paul wasn't against Reeder, I would still rather have Paul than Reeder. Maybe even Elias would have been better. I have said before that I put 50% of the blame on the team going 1- 5 last year on the dubious line-up of Reeder and Rozeboom pairing. And I will move on now. I won't say another word on this subject.

Dolac did outplay him, true, and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve his spot. I'm saying that Paul should've made this team over Reeder somehow getting a spot on this roster for the millionth time, even if it was only special teams. I have not seen Reeder make an impact play on special teams ever, and that's the only reason why we're keeping him. Fate fucking forbid he actually starts, which is a possibility now that he's on the roster. At least with a younger linebacker with better change-of-direction skills, you'd have more impact plays on teams.

Culture should not impact this team at this point; we've had total cancerous idiots like Marcus Peters and Desean Jackson (and some would say Aqib Talib or Jalen Ramsey fall into that category) on this team, and culture hasn't been lost just because they were on the team. We have a strong enough coaches in McVay and Shula, plenty of leaders on defense and special teams. We don't need to keep Reeder on the team to impact the "culture".

It's about talent, period, and I don't think Reeder would be more talented on special teams than Paul would've been, and now we've wasted not one, but three draft picks (the fifth and the two sixths we traded to pick him).

My second issue is not that Paul is gone; it's about people's reactions to him being gone, like suddenly, he doesn't have any talent and that we're "better off". If we were "better off", we wouldn't have drafted him in the first place. I wouldn't have seen so many people on here claiming that Paul was going to take one of the starting linebacker spots by storm - and they had every right to believe it. And now that he's gone, it's a positive?
I bought a bottle of yellow mustard for a BBQ, couldn't find it. No clue where it went. That's about as upset as I am about losing Pooh.

Wow. I thought all the angst over the Tutu/Creed conundrum was borderline ridiculous. All this over a 5th round draft pick who couldn't beat out Troy Reeder? To quote Colonel Kurtz, "The Horror, The Horror"!

He got beat out by an udfa. Let’s try to move on and not overblow a guy that was beat out by a better player.

This. He's 100% on the roster if we don't sign Dolac, and hard to fathom why Dolac wasnt drafted in the first place

My hope is that Speights & Landman stay healthy so we don't have to rehash this game after game. This team has gotten stronger and stronger since the single so-so campaign due to the injury bug of 22'

I must admit that arguing. debating whatever your choice of terminology is over bottom of the position group subs is a place I have wanted this team to be in for a long time.

Almost every year we get surprised by darlings missing out and "villains" making it. A certain OL player comes to mind.

We have a really strong team and ammo to pull the trigger on a trade if we need to.

Horns Up lets take the Lombardi back and put it where it belongs

I think people are more upset about this than they were about trading away Jones last year for a handful of pocket lint
Really is just weird.

The percentage of Rams hits over the last three years is ridiculous.. and we're going to get all angsty and worry about being "fucked" because of a fifth ILB?

I think people just become entrenched and refuse to reframe what they're looking at.. or re-evaluate their own take.

The only people getting upset are those who refuse to realise that the Rams organisation knows more about the player than any of us ever will.

The draft was four months ago. Over those four months, the coaching team and other decision makers will have assessed Paul, just the same as everybody else. They have decided he isn't worth keeping. That's all that matters.

Right?
Youngest team in the league where seemingly every pick in the last 2 years was a hit but now its all over because of a fan crush on player who the Rams see differently. Good grief
