I don't hate Sloman, nor do I want to bash him.
I do get the feeling he might cost us a "W" in an important game down the road. Hope I'm very wrong.
I hate to be a hardcore ass to a guy who is trying to make his way in this league and maybe he can make it with another team eventually, but.....

When you put those short low returnable kickoffs with his propensity to miss extra points?

My Sloman pulse is slow and fading at the moment.

Against the Giants, 3 of 4 kickoffs for touchbacks, other kick returned from the 5 yard line.
Against Washington, 4 of 6 kickoffs for touchback, the other 2 were returned from the goal line.
What exactly are you talking about?

Yeah his kickoffs and leg strength are just fine, not sure where the complaints on kickoffs are coming from. Oh well we have seen McVay's response to a question about Sloman now.

I'm talking about there's no reason that a Pro shouldn't have a strong enough leg to kick them all out of the end zone.

Eventually it's going to bite us in the ass.

Or we are going to lose by one point or have to go for a touchdown instead of kicking a field goal because we're down by 1 missed extra point.

Again this confuses me I see it from multiple people on occasions. You do realize that there are times a coach wants them to not get a touch back? That consistent leg strength has absolutely nothing to do with the other team occasionally returning kicks right?

This is like the Hallmark Channel. I try to avoid it but then my wife catches me watching.
As long as we don't have one of those Christmas time programs that makes us cry....

I'll be good.

Rams could have lined up for a 50 yarder today. Did they go for it? Nope!

Sloman is garbage. Probably wouldn't make it in the XFL. Why he's on the Rams, a top tier echelon football team...makes no sense!
We should have drafted Blankenship as anyone who has watched college football last few years knows he was money. He leads the league in scoring. Big miss on our part. Sloman scares me on every kick. He has to go.
No No No speaking of anything but Sloman as nothing but soon to be the Rams top scorer in their history is blasphemy!! He’s a rookie so he can miss the next 14 FG tries and he’s the next coming of Justin Tucker.:rolleyes:

Ohhh wait, that should of been in black not blue font. :explode:

I was laughing to myself after face palming after watching Sloman shank that XP imagining the excuses after excuses that were going to be posted. Was not disappointed.

I was very surprised that it wasn’t a ghost town like the Kiser thread after the Bills loss though. Meh..

I've yet to see any excuses for the missed XP, who made what excuse for his missed kick this week? Just curious for science.

I can't tell if you're just trolling right now or maybe drunk? So far the only kick that I've seen anybody else excuse, hell even the announcers said this same thing, was the missed FG in Buffalo because it was very high winds. Everything else he's missed we all want him to make. So really not sure where these excuses are coming from. Unless you're making them up for the sake of trolling.

I don't hate Sloman. Not at all. My issue with him isn't so much about the missed kicks, he's a rookie, he should become more consistent with experience and confidence. It's an "eye test" type thing.
But I definitely don't have anything against him, he's a Ram and I hope he becomes really good for us.

Unfortunately I have been spoiled to good kicking going back from Zeurline, douchebag Josh Brown and Jeff Wilkins. We've had dependable kicking for years and what Zeurline lacked in perfection he made up for with power and being clutch.

To go from this kicker comfort zone to depending on a kid who looks like he's struggling to get power behind the ball, struggling to get the ball up high AND struggling with his technique.... its kinda hard to sugar coat it.
I hope he wins me over but right now I'm worried that he wont be ready to help us win big games this year.

Even those of us in the “be patient camp” would feel a lot better if he nailed a couple 40, 50 yarders in a game... with zero XP misses.

Get a game or two like that under his belt...

This thread loses steam.

But it’s been interesting that there haven’t been any opportunities in that 40-50 range, really. His chances have sort of been limited to ease this anxiety.

And... until then...

One added positive of having Sloman: McVay can't just count on points once we get to the 40 yard line (which was a huge issue last year with GZ's regression). He knows we have to at least get inside the redzone.

On the flip side, seems unlikely that this kid will hit a game winning FG from 40+ yards out if needed, and I think we would all like to see him make at least some 40-49 yarders to put us at ease.

Glad I'm not trying to convince anyone about Sloman.

As I stated earlier I would wait till the break to see how he is doing. He hasn't had many chances so far.

He is 6-8 FG and 14-16 Xtra Points.

Out of the 4 misses 3 were missed left. The other miss was a low going left and blocked.

The 53 yarder with wind wasn't too far off with plenty of distance. He seems to be consistently missing left by a small margin with an occasional low kick. Obviously, he has to get the ball up which I think he has done better at. It shouldn't be too hard to correct the wide left close misses.

I think the short KOs are by design.
If you notice they are angled toward the sideline IIRC most of the time. Since there is no hang time clock I don't know how high the kicks are.

All in all, unless he has a meltdown I think the Rams will stay with him. There are no sure kickers out there in free agency. I think the Rams see the upside in him. I think he has a chance to be a solid kicker for the Rams. We won't know without giving him more time. Time will tell.
