I have zero confidence in him. Zero.
This is what's funny, nobody is trying to convince somebody else about Sloman being good. Most of us that aren't talking about cutting the guy are simply endorsing patience with a rookie. Also you look around at the state of kicking in the NFL and there aren't many options. Quite honestly kickers in the NFL are in worse shape than the OLine is league wide.Glad I'm not trying to convince anyone about Sloman.
Coach speak my man. If you want to know what McVay thinks, look no further than when/where he puts him on the field to attempt field goals. McVay is always beneficial to the player in his comments. For now the fact that Sloman still has a job is important, but we need to wait for situations that will tell us what Coach is really thinking.Yeah his kickoffs and leg strength are just fine, not sure where the complaints on kickoffs are coming from. Oh well we have seen McVay's response to a question about Sloman now.
Curious but how many 4th downs have we gone for when it wasn't late in the game and we needed a score? How many punts have we had Hekker do inside the opponents side of the field? I seem to remember that this year was the first time Hekker ever had a game where he didn't punt at all and one game with a single punt. The Hekker usage and the fact we've gone for a 4th down only 1 time each game doesn't really suggest a fear of using him, more a lack of opportunity.Coach speak my man. For me... Once I see him drill some 45+ field goals I'll feel a lot better.
A veteran kicker missed it no less. One who is 83% on his career for FG's and has gotten better each year too.anyone catch the game last night?
Chargers clanked the game winner AND missed a PAT
some people act as if Sloman is the only kicker to miss a PAT

Like I said I need to see more of him to allay my concerns. But I'm also not shitting all over other people's opinions here.Curious but how many 4th downs have we gone for when it wasn't late in the game and we needed a score? Again some of you are taking the wrong tone from the rest of us. Patience is what's being preached not Sloman's greatness. Sorry if that isn't coming across in this discussion.
The only opinion I've done anything that could be considered shitting on is the one claiming McVay chose him because they share an alma mater. Anybody else my stance and most everybody else's is to give the kid a chance. Very very few good kickers in NFL history have been great from their very first kick. Our previous kicker that everybody was pissed off we let go of certainly wasn't great from day one. He was as bad as Sloman, got better for a year then regressed for another couple of years during which he was signed to a second contract and again people questioned Snead's sanity. It is kind of funny that things like GZ's past and parallels to current players keep popping up where we weren't patient with GZ he became very good to great, then his successor it seems we're again starting out with a lack of patience. We'll see how Sloman turns out (I think those 6 words are the most common 6 I've said in this thread btw).Like I said I need to see more of him to allay my concerns. Curious, and I'm not harping on or trying to belittle your opinion or anybody elses, but why the 50 yards? The one he tried over 50 had more than enough leg it just blew left in the wind.As of right now, I don't trust Samuel for anything over 50 yds during the game and I have absolutely no idea how he will perform in the event of a game winning FG from anywhere on the field. He's a rookie, time will tell. Let's just pray he doesn't cost us a crucial or Playoff game.
Based on what per the bolded?I still think Lirim was the more logical decision. Waiting on Sloman to prove me wrong
McVay all of a sudden got stupid ?I still think Lirim was the more logical decision. Waiting on Sloman to prove me wrong
Yeah, being a rookie with a very small body of work it's tough to tell. That being said I remember him having some struggles in the scrimmages at longer distances. As far as the 53 yd attempt in Buffalo compensating for the wind is something that a kicker needs to do. You're right though, he had enough leg.......on that kick. Will he on the next one? We will find out, I sure hope so.Curious, and I'm not harping on or trying to belittle your opinion or anybody elses, but why the 50 yards? Right, he's not Legatron.I don't see what his upside is at this point? He's shown he basically doesn't have any one trait that wow's you. He's not Legatron. He is going to cost you games though if you stick with him
