I think we give the kid a chance but Greg Z did make a 57 yarder to send us to the super bowl and had about 15 yards to spare

Or it could be just like McVay said. It was a close competition and Sloman pulled ahead in the final week or two.

And it always cracks me up people throwing out the hypothetical costing us a win. Like you point out people were pissed we let GZ go yet his missed FG last year kept us from the playoffs. It honestly looks like no matter what this kid does it won't be good enough for some people.
I highly doubt, that a coach is going to pick a guy that gives us the best chance to lose.

Except Sloman per some around here. I think one of the common themes was he went with Sam just because of his alma mater. There were a few other less flattering suggestions on how/why we chose our kicker it was very funny.

My pulse is still even. He's certainly improved his technique since week 1 it seems but still a bit wild at times. I'm giving him benefit of the doubt and hope we don't have to rely on him for a season extending play his rookie year.

Some need to get over GZs powerful legs.
Gzs power isn't the norm.
Greg is struggling again this year, anyway.

Sloman is splitting the uprights. He also kicks a straight ball.
I know many were concerned about the shallow line drives he was kicking the first week.
It appears to me that he now has more lift on the ball during his FG kicks.

I hope the young kid keeps it up and continues to build confidence.

I agree 100% but you know how it is. Some have an axe to grind and won't let it go. For now I'm just enjoying the entertainment.

Ficken is an attention whore. Look how he shamelessly photobombs Goodell and Kronke. He knew I was taking the photo and just had to get in the picture. :)

I get Mcvays logic with the pick.

He young, malleable and cheaper. We shouldn’t need to kick over 40 yards anyways.

I’d give him at least the season unless he misses some consecutive short kicks that cost us.

I think our rookie kicker Sloman is coming around.

His extra points and field goal attempts have had some low trajectory at times but they're straight shots with no hook or fades like a golfer.

He will be tested with a clutch kick late in the 4th quarter at some point but until we see him under that kind of pressure he's doing okay in my book.

You mean the guy that was 50% for us and followed that up with a year at 70%? This just proves we should stick it out with Sloman so thank you for that.
70% ?? Are you suggesting that 70% is a good thing?
ALL that proves is ficken went from pathetic in 2018 to really bad in 2019 ranking 29th in FG% in the NFL with a 70.4%
He is doing well now, so are you suggesting we should have stuck it out with Ficken?

It honestly looks like no matter what this kid does it won't be good enough for some people.
I understand you like the guy, but you said no matter what he does as if he has actually done something
He has a 71.4 % FG percentage. Good enough to put him in a 5 way tie for 26th place.
Which translates to nothing.

I have nothing against Sloman, I hope he turns into a pro bowl kicker.
But there is nothing hypothetical about the possibility of him costing us games when he has trouble clearing
the defensive line with line drive kicks, much less making them.
However his kicks did look better against the Giants. Hopefully he continues to relax and improve.
