Could totally be on board with Chop... after a trade down. Without question the most athletic edge in the draft but needs some refinement. I'd be hoping he wasn't another Oweh, who hasn't come around yet.
On one of the podcasts I listened to, they said a scout told them they had wished Chop would have stayed in college for one more season, to further develop. If he had he’d be a top five pick in 2025.

That may be a stretch, but TIFWIW

He’s young and PSU rotated players on their defense. Diaz wanted everyone to be fast and fresh.

Snead: Hey guys, our board is set, I don't love these guys at 19. Who are our guys that would be there in the 20s, if we trade down? Let's do a little more work on them. Take a trip to Penn, have a pina colada. yada yada.

Just ran into my old friend from work. His son, Michael Barrett Jr, LB , Michigan has been talking to a couple of teams lately and said the Rams have been talking to him a lot. Might not mean a thing but he’s ranked around 150 so might be a late round target.

Well, he did only have 303 snaps, of those roughly half were pass rushing downs (148). By comparison Dallas Turner had 647 snaps (over double) and 292 pass rushing downs (almost double). Chop had a higher pass rush win rate and to extrapolate the numbers by doubling them (due to twice as many snaps) Chop does end with 6 sacks and 36 hurries. That is still not amazing sack numbers but does surpass Turner's hurry count (33). As bizarre as it is, both Verse and Latu had 36 hurries on the dot.

Turner also might rank as the worst run defender of the group, while Chop is actually avg+ against the run.

I thought Verse was supposed to be excellent against the run.

For some unsubstantiated reason (other than they are advertised as productive power runners and I get stuck on players) I been focused on the R3.99 pick for either Estime/ND or Allen/ Wisc. Anyone care to weigh in on comparison of these 2 or recommend an even better power runner?
Not a fan of Allen. He is a converted Linebacker. Has no wiggle.... his yardage after contact is average... and he's not a good pass protector.
Isaiah Davis from South Dakota State is ranked 7th nationally in yardage after contact and is a good pass protector

Here's a chart I posted on another site.

What does everyone think of these numbers?
I think if Latu is as good as everyone seems to believe, there's no way he's available at 19. He may be the first edge taken.

Kinda puts Latu at the top to me. He’s just different. He doesn’t seem to be the strongest but still performs better than most.

I convinced more daily that he won't be. He's gone at 8 IMO.

I hope Latu falls to #19.

Holy shit! Didn’t know Verse was that bad vs. the run.

And I’m a lot higher on Latu after seeing those!

Ps @Elmgrovegnome since you’re a filthy Nittany Lion fan I’m a lot higher on you Adisa Isaac than Chop with his lack of production tbh.

That could because he gets chipped doubled all the time or could be a serious worry.

I know when the Wolverines played you guys we only ran the ball 30 times in a row? Because Chop the beginning of that game hit McCarthy twice really fast and hurt him because our LT couldn’t block him at all. Most criticize McCarthy without watching the game at all on that.

So that could be a telling sign for Chop being a good NFL player if we can load the D Line.

I think it's pretty widely regarded that Verse is good against the run. FWIW.

One of the safest picks in the draft IMO. Was listening to Dari and Mel this past Saturday AM. Kiper was hearing he goes between picks 10 and 16.
There was a story here that the Philly OL coach loves him. And their OL coach is a hell of a coach. I could see Philly moving up for him if they can. They could use him at OG for a few yrs then move him to RT when Lane Johnson retires. They have a hole right now at RG. Last yrs starter is moving to center.

The BAMA guard Dickerson isn’t moving to Center ? That was who I wanted The Rams to trade up for in 2021.

Defensive rookie of the year Will Anderson from last year. Basically the same metrics, anybody know why Verse would only be considered a 4-3 end?

Byron Young Jarod Verse
6 2" 6 3 1/2"
250 253
40 4.48 sec 40 4.58 sec
Arm 32 1/2 Arm 33 1/2

Comparison to Byron Young our OLB from last year.

Yeah think I'd be comfortable drafting Verse.

Yeah think I'd be comfortable drafting Verse.
I've heard a few times that Verse is too stiff in the hips. One comp I've seen is Josh Sweat is good, not great. I've seen some people have Verse as the best edge and others say he's a bottom of the round one type. I've always figured he's more of a power rusher. So there is development needed for pass rush moves. But, its the same with all four first round edges in some way or another. That is why I want JerZhan Newton. I think he more complete as a3 tech penetrated type.

I didn't think Chop looked that bad against the run, when he actually played the run. It looked like he was bent on penetrating and got caught a lot of the time. Which that could be a read/react thing. I don't know if its coachable or not. When it comes to pure pass rush. I feel he's as good as the others, maybe better. But, playing the run is very important. So is having speed to recover. He's not my first choice but I won't be upset if the Rams were to pick him.

I like Adisa Isaac a lot too. He's not as athletic as Chop, but I think he is more instinctual He is a good all around player. I'm surprised he's been discussed so little on draft shows. At the end of the season I felt he worked himself into the end of round one. Its possible that the Rams actually were at PSU to talk to more than one of their players. Isaac, Curtis Jacobs, Johnny Dixon, Daquon Hardy, Olu, Allen King, alk have good qualities.. There are quite a few draftable players there, just like with Michigan. Why go to a school and only speak to one player?
