Pick #57 - Rams select WR Tutu Atwell

Under McVay, the Rams seemed to have hit on their WR acquisitions.
People hated the Woods signing, right? He turned out ok. Kupp and Jefferson seem ok.
Sammy Watkins wasn't totally terrible, he was just less than hoped. Brandin Cooks was pretty useful for a couple of years.
So, I'm not excited by this pick, but I'm willing to pretend to be optimistic.

On the other hand, yes, I know highlight vids are not how you want to evaluate a player. That being said, I thought Tavon's college reels showed more and looked better than Tutu's. Tavon seemed shiftier and more elusive. Tutu has better timed speed than Tavon coming out, but it looks like Tavon had more actual game speed. So, if this guy turns out to be a poor man's Tavon . . . yeesh. Time will tell.

Tavon was more RB/ gadget than WR. My impression is this guy is more of a WR. We will see. I would have rather gone big boddied type like Collins or Terry, who also have speed.

Obviously they are going for immediate impact on returns here as well.

It was funny seeing Demoff shake the camara & Mcvay not looking happy at all. Yeah - just shows it isn’t worth it to get so excited for The Draft sometimes.
2020 IMO was awesome. I’d take Lewis,Akers, & Jefferson over this pick.

why was mcvay locked into Eskridge and panicked when Seattle selected him? choosing another fast receiver off their board? If so McVay blew it as he should be ready for any scenario.

Hard to get on board with this pick. This is really a strange pick.

Rams missed JoJo Natson last year. Tutu has to win that PR job. If he can make the first guy miss he can get some nice gainers. All things considered couldn't the Rams make a better pick, trade down with this pick. Would be nice to see him get some snaps this year. He can help wear down the opponent's DBs. Stafford might be able to connect on some bombs with his speed.

Yeah, if he can find him....

Not thrilled with the pick, looks like I'm not alone. He does seem to have better hands and tracks the deep ball better than Tavon. If Tutu gets a clean release Stafford wont need much time to hit him deep. Hopefully D Jackson stays healthy and we dont need to count on Tutu this season. I wouldnt mind seeing D Jackson and Tutu on the field at the same time a few plays per game. That kind of deep threat should open up the run game as long as McVay doesnt get to predictable with it.

Now this really does sound like Tavon:

• Extremely small frame. Can easily be overpowered or influenced by defenders more physical than him.
• Size could ultimately lead to durability concerns at the next level, especially considering injuries sustained in 2020.
• Average route runner, also needs to expand route tree if he wants to be more than just a vertical threat or gadget player at the next level.
• Relatively small catch radius can sometimes lead to drops, also has a tendency to rely on body catches.

Welcome Mr. Atwell! Time to eat some food son I’m 5’ 6” and 150 is light for me...like 13-15% bf light. 5’9” 150 is like ridiculous, especially considering he should have more muscle than me even though I lift as well. At least I hope. Dude must be vascular as hell

Looks like Snead is making the 4th round his draft. This simply reinforces the perception the FO is happy with the roster as is. I for one can't really argue. Just need that RB/FB and SCB but they do have options particularly in the secondary.

Based on the Rams metrics, he's the fastest player in the draft... based on what they value.

So that's it.

And he's not 150 for those that keep thinking this, he's 160 before hitting an NFL weight room.
