Stafford had a bad game and was a major culprit for the loss.
That said, when the game is in the balance the ball belongs in his hands. Every time
He had been playing so well, one had to wonder when a bad game would hit. He wasn't terrible...it was just lingering out there when it would happen...and yesterday was it!!!

BS!!!

The Rams didn't underestimate the Panthers, nor did they play like they did.

I wouldn't call aggressive tendencies getting burned 2x for TD's and missing tackles. (Forbes)
Stafford is usually aggressive so I don't get that one. Call it for what it is..... Stafford had a bone-head day.

Obviously this is all hyperbole because none of really know if the Rams underprepared or not. However, the Panthers out coached us, caught us in blitzes, caught us in coverages that cost us 14 points, and used our own tendencies against us.

I made a comment in the game day thread.

"Panthers defensive coaching strategy; Let McVay outsmart himself."

And that's exactly what he did. Averaging 7 YPC, and he got pass happy once again. Going for it on 4th down, when you have a 3rd and short and you pass it twice.... Just stupid, stupid playcalling.

Night and day difference when he was out there. It's why I asked in the GDT why Davis was playing so much. When Poona was in, the Panthers were getting very little running inside. When he subbed out, they were pushing Tyler Davis around.
I have a feeling that Poona was just allowed to play a few plays since he was hampered by an injury.

this does not seem like a careful reading of the post... or a reading of the post

The offense was not the issue, they had only 1 punt. The QB? 3 turnovers, 2 of which in redzone, 1 returned for a TD.
Glad Staff got the bad game out of his system.
The defense? 2 TD scored on 4th down plays, as bad as they looked at times, that's 2 plays where either one doesnt hit and its a different game.
Alas, these things happen
Yeah but Stafford made some boneheaded plays (as some peeps have already pointed out). I think they should have just stuck to running plays for the most part and only have Stafford throw a few passes. Less chance for a wet ball to slip out of his hands on some throws.

Well...I don't think McVay outsmarted himself in this one. His playcalls were ok, and he wasn't overly aggressive. I do think he should have got more screens to the RBs though...and it seemed to me he had no "hot reads" for the blitzing.

I've been saying for a while the Rams offense doesn't seem to incorporate "hot reads". If they do have them, they need to incorporate them!

Yeah, there is something to it.
Its raining, you are the better team and have 2 good running backs. if we just kept it simple and run, run , and run some more we win going away IMO. Pick 6 likely never happens.
McVay does this once in awhile and he probably always will.
Still, no coach I would rather have. Hitch'n my wagon to that guy.

Looking at this as their mulligan for this year. Stafford got his bad game out of his system and now we can refocus on getting back on track and making a run. This was a crap game and we played like crap, hopefully this is a wake up call and come back strong for the stretch run.

Other than the TOs, our Offense was great. Maybe a little more TOP by running the ball since the Panthers were scoring on long drives

How about the Panthers Lathan Ransom? The hits he was laying on people, holy smokes! He about broke KW in two. It looked like something out of a movie. Any fantasy thoughts of me putting on a Rams uniform and a helmet, winning the game, ha, like when were kids. That thought went out the window because I would have died with a hit like that. The Panthers were relentless.
Let's give the Panthers some credit. They are a better team than their record reflects.

I thought Ransom’s physicality stood out as well. Moehrig may have a hard time getting back on the field after his ill timed (pea)nut punch.

No concerns about the O going forward. I am concerned about the D. Poona 19 snaps and calf injury? When we are ahead we can go after the QB. But the Panthers ran us into the ground. Maybe we end up 5 seed and get the Panthers in a rematch?

Exactly
1 punt all game
The offense was unstoppable, until it stopped itself
I would have liked McVay to do the opposite 28 run plays 20 pass plays since it was raining. More chances for Stafford to slip up with it raining and throwing 2 picks and getting sacked on a 3rd down and 10.

But I do blame McVay on that delay of game penalty. Call a damn time out. Although it looked like a quick whistle on it since I have seen it be a good 2 seconds before they call it in the past.

The offense moved at will, so I dont understand why it should have been different? The rain had nothing to do with any of his turnovers though. First int was just dumb luck, bouncing off the helmet. 2nd was just Stafford brain farting and getting bird dogged for a pick 6. The sack? I dunno, he should have never held the ball that long and I doubt the wet ball made a difference. As for the delay of game, not sure if the Rams preferred the 5 yard penalty over the additional time out

The better idea would have have been to call a timeout before the play clock went to zero.... I hold Stafford responsible for that as he's not a young inexperienced QB.

I thought the Rams had a great combination of running and passing all game. Who could have expected Stafford to make six big mistakes in one game.

I'm still shocked.
Stafford acknowledged it post-game. Put that penalty squarely on his own shoulders, said he thought they'd get it off at 1- or zero but he misjudged the clock.

He plays the media game so damn well. Falls on his own sword the way you want your QB to in order to protect other players and the team. And especially when he is in fact to blame for issues.

Even if it was a little bit of overconfidence, this game made them realize you can't be paying attention to all that talk about being the best team. A number of teams can lay claim to that. You just get back to work and focus on the next game. You can't dwell on the last one. Its the NFL. Anyone can beat anyone.
