I like how the depth guys played but they were playing against guys who are most likely cuts, not starters.

To me
Thomas
Anchrum
Allen
Shelton
Avila
are the interior guys this season.
Hav
Noteboom
McClendon
Jackson
are the Tackles. Don't see a lane for Bruss to make the roster, maybe to the practice squad. Think the Rams carry 9 on the 53 with probably 7 game day actives, but after last season they may have 8 game day actives.

I hope to God you're right on Bruss. Don't need to reserve a roster spot (Bobby Evans) for 4 years just because he was a fairly high draft pick. If he looks as bad in practice as he did against the Chargers then I can't even understand why he wasn't released already.

Ehhh... I have no dog in the fight, just want the best RG to start but I don't think you put your starter in that position for that long. I think there's definitely a lane there for Boom to take the job.
Unless they make Boom a back up left tackle?

I'm not expecting much of a blast from this boom anymore.

To me, at this point, he's kind of another half-assed high offensive line pick.

I'm so much more impressed by the free agents and late round pick development they've done.

Excepting Avila is looking pretty good.

Re Noteboom:

Big Whit implied Noteboom was moving to guard, or at least could handle it. Know he has been at camp, but can anybody be sure where he’s gonna play? Not yet, I would think.

My question is: Shouldn’t we see Noteboom this week? Jackson took the field in game 1. Why wouldn’t they give Noteboom some playing time, especially at RG, if that’s where he’s gonna end up?
Noteboom at guard seems like deja vu all over again.

And not in a good way.

Maybe just a way to make him a game day active backup guard/backup tackle

Bruss certainly looked as though he is a little behind but that likely isn't a great surprise to the Staff. I don't see the Rams cutting him I think he is on the 53. I just don't see them giving up this quickly without really being able to assess him due to all the obstacles he has faced. Thomas or McClendon may end up on the P.S. We will see, one thing is for certain cuts this season will be very intriguing.

Didn't Jourdan tell us last week that the loser for the starting LT position would simply become our swing OT ? I worry that if both Jackson & Noteboom are starting that injuries could become a serious problem. Are the Rams feeling positive over McClendan's stint at LT last week, how about Arcuri who hopes to get some snaps in against the Raiders ? I could see moving Noteboom to another OL position so long as we have another decent back-up at LT.
jmo.

Yeah it has to feel good to them to see McClendon show well. He did what we wanted him to do which is look like he belongs, his feet were good, and he reacted well to some things in real time. But pretty sure some of these other guys we've drafted under this regime had preseason outings where they did the same. So we're gonna have to wait and see obviously.

I figure Arcuri is on the way out. If he can't get on the field when Bruss is out there turnstiling at tackle it means he's low enough on that chart where we can probably stick a fork in him.

Lastly re: the swing OT being the guy who loses out in the LT competition that's pretty standard. Of course the guy who loses will be the swing OT. That observation by Jourdan was the kind of thing that has to be made for the dipshits and chicken littles on social media.

The staff needs to do a better job of identifying the best 5 much earlier than they have.

As it stands, There’s not enough camp or pre season to develop any continuity once the best 5 have been identified. Week 1 is not the time to be asking your best 5 to start gelling as a unit.

McVay alluded to this in one of his pressers last week. He played it down a bit though. It’s likely why our OL seems to come out of the gate shaky seemingly every year.

Agreed! I read an article that pointed out the oddity of that specifically and how it affects the progress of the unit as a whole.

My contention is that Shelton is more experienced than either at that position so if Allen gets the nod, the best 5 week 1 is Jackson, Avila, Allen, Shelton, and Havenstein.

I'm sure if Noteboom wins out at RG, he'll still be our backup tackle. While the technique is different at G than at T and switching sides takes time to get used to, they are also not world ending either. If injury strikes, Boom moves to tackle and Anchrum comes in.

On a related note, the whole guard/tackle technique being so different affecting Bruss is more an indictment of Bruss than it is that those spots are so wildly different (when you're moving from tackle to guard - moving from guard to tackle is a whole different matter).

He ain't a little behind, he is Bobby 'fucking Evans behind. His main obstacle is any defensive lineman across from him. You might as well give me a roster spot, I can let people run by me too. In all honesty, I hope he improves to where he's worth keeping but I just don't see/heard it so far. No wasted rosters spots!

Evans never came off a major knee surgery where they repaired two ligaments.

I think Bruss deserves a little patience.

I could see a reason to keep Shelton as a reserve C to keep continuity on the OL. Because Allen will likley miss time at some point and better to simply insert Shelton to C instead of moving Shelton from G to C and then starting a new G.

Keep it simple. And it's not like Shelton is head and shoulders above Noteboom. Plus, having two 300 lb interior linemen makes you small on the interior.

According to recent posts, Tre Anchrum has no shot as starting RG, even though he has 90% of 1st team reps there, with good pass pro and good run blocking.

Why are so many of you folks so anxious to put somebody else there? Why disrupt the cohesiveness they are putting together?

I don't care where Notebook was drafted or how much he makes, if he can't beat out AJackson at LT, Now is not the time to go fucking around and throwing new guys in positions other guys have done well.
sit his ass down as swing T. Tre Anchrum looks to me like he's earned the job at RG.

I have no problem with that. I didn't mention him because I still can't say if he is as good as Shelton. He may be and then again I keep Shelton as reserve C if he is not starting. And Anchrum also gives you more beef inside.
