Been waiting to see what McVay would do with O'Connell and this is a very interesting direction. It means he doesn't think his OC was part of last year's problems.
So now looking at our "passing game coordinator" (Shane Waldron) is Staley going to try to hire him? Or is he not interested. Have not heard one rumor yet about Waldron interest maybe I missed it dunno. This is another interesting indicator though. Granted the decision probably had to be made wrt the OC first but at this point I'm thinking there's a good chance Waldron will be fired.
I just don't feel like he's a guy who moves the bar at the coach level. OC was filled after the 2019 season and Waldron was left with the old title but I seriously doubt he was the prime gameplanner in the passing game. Very unlikely IMO. And at this point if he was a mover and shaker on that staff you can bet he'd be Staley's OC right now or at least that would be in the works.
Not a surprise btw. So I am glad we don't have to hire another OC and McVay will be able to focus (hopefully) on improving the QB coach with someone who is a badass teacher of protections.
