In the instance of DV....I can see why they err on the side of the victim...Too many times, guys get released on bail, with a restraint on record, and visit the victim with terrible consequences.
I understand that completely having grown up with DV a huge part of my childhood, and understand how things like that happen. It wakes you up to reality of life really fast.
But as I’ve learned there are something’s that if you get accused of they stay with you regardless if true or not.

Who had rented the car previously? Were you 100% positive, willing to bet your freedom and your clean record, that nothing illicit was left behind? If you consent to a search and are wrong, then you are nailed.

Yes, because I did a thorough search, interior and exterior. People treat rental cars like shit and I wanted to make sure every thing was in order. Now did I search the interior interior like look within the seals of the doors? No. But they were factory sealed. You can tell if they've been tampered with.

I didn't do anything to make the cop think I had jacked that car. I cooperated, I showed him my rental agreement, had a valid ID. Wasn't drunk, didn't smell like weed. Nothing. Everything was in order and good to go. Honest mistake, and my rights weren't violated. Had I escalated it into something else it would've been a whole different story.

For your own car, has your kid borrowed your car? Did one of his or her friends drop something in it illicit? When you gave a co-worker a ride to lunch, did anything slip out of their pocket?

I don't have a kid, and I never give a co-worker a ride to lunch, because I always bring my lunch from home. But ultimately, if the car is in your name, you are responsible for what happens in it. And yes, I do check when I go with a friend to the movies or play Pokemon Go or something.

Did you know that if they have permission to search, they can tear the car apart and do not have to put it back together, taking hours potentially to get back on the road at best?

If it gets to that point. This is such a hypothetical statement a. If it's your own vehicle and know for a fact nothing is in there, you shouldn't act in a way that makes the officer suspicious. Or if you admit of carrying a weapon or something, you best have the legal docs to back that up (or whatever backup it requires, I'm not really sure about the specifics). Anything else, I personally don't have sympathy. And again, at the end of the day, it's your responsibility.

Sorry man but nah - freak no. The douche made all kinds of accusations like being held at gun point and being called the N word by a white officer. It was all debunked in the videos and he made no attempt to apologize or admit his "mistake". He's a POS and no amount of excusing his behavior changes that. He's a race baiting ass hole.

And thaaaaaat pretty much sums it up. People that try to stoke a race war need to be marginalized. Most in society are too weak in character to be able to call people like Bennett a POS.

When a cop gives a crowd an order and you disobey it, or tells you to stop and you continue to run or fight back, that is not something your attorney would have advised. Shut up afterward? Certainly. But that's hardly what we're talking about here.

Exactly. A 22 year-old young man is dead here in Sacramento because he made some really stupid decisions last week. He broke into some vehicles at 4am, and when confronted by a homeowner ran into some backyards, tracked by police helicopter. He ran from police, then came toward them (1 black and 1 white) with an object (turned out to be a cell phone) and they were forced to use deadly force. Sad.

I do not celebrate the death of the young man. But as racial tensions rise in this city, (partly in thanks to media biased reporting) the officers are in protective custody, threatened with their lives, and the criminal is being celebrated. This is twisted These officers risk their lives to protect this community. Cooperating with police is essential. To advocate a confrontational response is, in itself, contributing to the deaths of too many young (usually) men.

You are not on the side of these young men when you make excuses for this behavior. You want them to die!! Stop it. Majorly stupid stance. My heart bleeds for this kid. But I want to smack every marcher in the street, that is calling for "justice" for him. He received justice, sadly. Now look inside. Change what you can control.

Capitalism by its very nature causes competition.....the need to "win"...To be better...the best....and in this search, problems will & do, arise.

Capitalism is the reason for every good thing you enjoy.

Well we know for sure that a white officer had nothing to do with it. So I would conclude that the rest of his crap is bullcrap race baiting. I don’t care what race anyone is. If they are being a POS they are being a POS. And race baiting is really one of my peeves. There is true racism going on every day and he is doing the opposite of helping in this case.

Preach brother!!

Pretty sad because there is always a chance to learn something from somebody else. I don't know what is to blame for that? Social Media? The internet? Media in general?

The degradation of humanity.

But Capitalism without some social elements, will ultimately fail....the distribution of wealth is too vast....and many would literally starve & die off from illnesses....or suffer from any of the other horrors of the economic design to distribute wealth....unfairly.

Uhhh, wealth is created. It first has to be "confiscated" by government to be distributed. That is immoral. Wealthy people employ other people. Give them opportunities.

Sheesh. Too many Marxist professors running around Universities.

Now if I was an icehole and said something like "Bruh I know I mah rights I didn't do crap. I just ain't used to this bullcrap rental car! Cops always freakin with minorities, this whole damn town is freakin racist...I know mah rights damnit!!!" then yeah, I just lost everything that got me out of a ticket.

Bravo Angry Ram! Common Sense 101.

Kinda true. The valuing professions that build our society, thing. A good start would be getting rid of government schools. Inner city kids would benefit most. Lots of good CAPITALISTIC ideas out there.

Knock off the politics.
Oh man! It's the off season....

Most in society are too weak in character to be able to call people like Bennett a POS.
Wow....

You must don't know what a real piece of shit looks like....

Justice....

You can equate justice, to a 22 year old guy, with a cell phone being gunned down??

Celebrated or mourned?

I've been to Sac....looked much like a cow town in the 80's and 90's....and I'm sure the same things I'm talking about has turned that city into what it is today...
Capitalism is the reason for every good thing you enjoy.
Allegedly....
Uhhh, wealth is created. It first has to be "confiscated" by government to be distributed. That is immoral. Wealthy people employ other people. Give them opportunities.
Wealth is created....now we are getting somewhere.....How did the MAJORITY of the true wealthy get that way? Some great invention? Hard work? Genius? Family name??????
or
Theft?? Forced labor?
Kinda true. The valuing professions that build our society, thing. A good start would be getting rid of government schools.
So you favor private schools? Who do you think will attend the majority of those?

I'm gonna stop there...not cause I want to....but I'll honor a board rule....

I still am surprised...in 2018.....there are guys that think like you.....and you sound totally serious....

we have books that tell you about history of the america's....slanted, but you can get the gist....there is the history channel....for those don't like to read....hell, google is your friend as well.

Be careful what you wish for....I don't know what type of young man you were at 22....don't care....but for anyone to suggest that an alleged car thief deserves to get shot 20 times holding a cell phone...shows such a lack of compassion for your fellow man....it's depressing. I'm sure you weren't raised this way.

There is no off-season when it comes to discussing politics here at ROD. After this we'll start deleting posts so don't waste your time or ours.

No one in their right mind celebrates something like that. Consider the source. There are tons of sites on the internet where that type of discussion can be had. ROD is not one of them.

Btw I've noticed after no longer watching cable news and avoiding these types of discussions with people in my inner circle that much of the high drama is gone. I sure don't want to come to a sports site and read about it.

Champ, I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. I am upset about this case in my own area. Upset about the loss of life. I just want things to get better for all. I should have chosen my words better. Sorry.

Police find surveillance video in Trevone Boykin’s home
Posted by Charean Williams on March 28, 2018

Former Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin insisted in a statement Tuesday his girlfriend’s allegations of domestic violence were “false.” But detectives in Mansfield, Texas, found surveillance video in Boykin’s home that showed “what appeared to be an assault that occurred inside the residence,” a police news release said, via WFAA.

Police arrested Boykin at his home Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years, per WFAA.

Shabrika Bailey told WFAA this week that Boykin’s alleged assault left her with a broken jaw swollen and wired shut.

The Seahawks cut Boykin on Tuesday, and he went unclaimed on waivers.

That was my point. You can reasonable accommodate someone into a job, but that doesn't make them actually qualified or capable of doing what's necessary. But it's illegal to "discriminate" against that and only hire people who are actually qualified.

Hell, if someone was motivated enough, they could probably sue if your job description/primary functions for the job would eliminate people with a variety of disabilities based on "adverse impact".

And before anybody accuses me off being a callous person who hates those with disabilities, all I'm saying is there are some jobs where you can't really accommodate enough to actually do the job. Depending on the disability, security guard is one of them.

Sorry, but there are plenty of jobs where it's simple to say "requires the ability to lift 25 lbs" or "required to stand for hours at a time"

The ADA is NOT a free-for-all with respect to anyone being able to do a job. A person in a wheel chair can't just become a police officer or fire fighter, for example. They can't just apply to become an oil field worker.

Doesn't work like that. Moreover, with all the cables and other impediments on the ground, there is NO WAY to properly accomodate a person in a wheelchair in a "security" capacity.

So the very notion that a disabled 66 year old female was put in a position where EVERY YEAR fans storm the field is beyond stupid. Moreover, it's reasonable to expect that All on field security would be expected to be able to impede the progress of a fan or fans onto the field.

And as @jrry32 mentioned, the Super Bowl is the most televised event in the history of the planet. There are more cameras and more individual footage from that event than any other. The very notion that there's no footage of an event that's supposed to have happened at the very end of a tight Super Bowl and it took 13 months to indict?

I call BS. At literally the event where almost every person is in some way/shape/form under video surveilance at all times, they have no video??? (especially because of the threat of terrorism, don't think it's just the network feeds they had access to)

Not a Bennett fan, but I'm less a fan of accusing an innocent person. And that goes for Bennett making his false accusation. I expect this to blow over.

Shame on HPD. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Anarchist, Jerry?

Not remotely.

And for someone who talks so often about freedom and liberty, acquiescing to unchecked police powers especially in the face of frequent police abuses is just... I'm not sure what to call it.

Maybe if most PDs weren't de facto revenue collectors for underfunded municipalities/counties, we'd see more policing that actually reflected the protection of the people instead of treating all people like insurgents.

And yes, I've met some outstanding police officers in my time and what I find interesting is that they are more upset about the crappy cops than any civilian because the crappy ones endanger all cops.

I wouldn’t mind it if we had a place for politics and religion based topics. While sports is the great unifier, and religion and politics tend to do the opposite - I think the world needs more of developing the ability to civilly discuss these subjects. We should be able to talk about these things - and our lack of being able to do is part of the problem. This forum is full of some of the coolest dudes and dudets on the planet - and that doesn’t stop being true just because some of us are red and some of us blue, some of us liberal and some of us conservatives - and many of us somewhere in between.

In all forums, we should respect each other and be civil.

Still, I understand the decision not to go there....

When I was a mod at the Herd, we tried that.

It quickly became Chernobyl and the fallout was... radioactive.

Yes, we need to be able to talk with one another about the hard stuff.

Unfortunately, right now, opinion and dogma outweigh facts, data and evidence as well as humility and compassion are sorely in short supply.

So, while I agree that it could in a more advanced world be a good thing, I can guarantee from personal experience that it would become a quagmire.

Giggity.

Edit: just caught up with the thread and read the Mods. So I'll either go back to pounding the table for OBJ if it works out right or enjoy my vacation as warrants.
