Not really messing with you(I did that in another thread a minute ago) :sneaky: just having a conversation. Sure there is personal opinion involved because we're not pre-programmed robots, however in the vast majority of cases we run things by each other and come to a common consensus before acting. There are times however when immediate action is required, like locking a thread or removing an obvious troll for instance.

We don't want politics or religion discussed here because it causes dissension among the members. Now there are times when there's a remark in a thread of that type and we let it go. But if someone starts a thread on either of those two topics then it gets locked. It's not complicated.

Admirable post Prime. I'm always open to a conversation like this and appreciate the response. Interesting to hear how the moderation works on this site and the vision of it while experiencing quite the difference through actions which brings up my own questions as to implementation of the forum rules etc. Almost 100% of the time I see myself drinking a beer with whoever I'm responding to with a relaxed attitude and bullshitting type of mindset. Unlike a lot of others here it is rare I have even met another Rams fan without traveling to STL, SoCal, or a game so it's pretty enjoyable for me to discuss and b.s. with others out there.

As we see in posts mostly the last year it seems politics etc. have really come up in threads this last year and a half in particular in which makes me think of other forums that function smoothly with a section where all that stuff belongs. Was just a thought and nighttrain responded which was good for me. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to moderate that section! lol Which is why I take you guys for granted at times.

I wouldn’t mind it if we had a place for politics and religion based topics. While sports is the great unifier, and religion and politics tend to do the opposite - I think the world needs more of developing the ability to civilly discuss these subjects. We should be able to talk about these things - and our lack of being able to do is part of the problem. This forum is full of some of the coolest dudes and dudets on the planet - and that doesn’t stop being true just because some of us are red and some of us blue, some of us liberal and some of us conservatives - and many of us somewhere in between.

In all forums, we should respect each other and be civil.

Still, I understand the decision not to go there....

Not to kinda, once again bore the crap out of members here who know this already but I started RRF all by my lonesome and saw it devolve into...

You know how that happened? I was all for politics and religion being discussed in a separate section. The other guys who were modding with me tried to talk me out of it. What I didn't know was that bitter arguments and resentments bleed into all the other sections.

So if someone pissed a member off in the politics/religion section, that feud would continue in the Rams section. At the very least if a person makes a mistake, they should learn from it and not do it again.

I think the world needs more of developing the ability to civilly discuss these subjects.

Have you not noticed that civility is off the table in 2018? I've known pastors in churches who ranted about politics from the pulpit and half their members left. I've known marriages and entire families that have been shaken due to the last two elections. I know a guy who won't speak to me any longer because I said something critical about the Pope, lol.

That's unfortunately the world we live in today. Each side dehumanizes the other side. There's been a seismic shift in our ability to communicate openly and honestly with one another and it hasn't been for the better. I blame the internet for much of that. Just go over to Youtube and read the comments.

We won't let that happen here even if it appears to some that we're overly controlling.

I have noticed - it sucks ass. I just want to try to be part of the solution and not just give in to the problem. I guess I would hope that with the Rams unifying us - we could rise above what is plaguing the rest of the world and be able to talk to each other. Probably wishful thinking and certainly wouldn’t go down without some bumps and bruises along the way - I’m just an optimist.

.

this is what happens when you don't just cooperate and be polite, and instead act like an arse with the wrong cop. instead of just driving away with a traffic ticket she ends up dead in her cell that night.

.

That doesn't sound like the America that I know and love. That's all I'm going to say.

That's sad, Prime, because that's a choice people make. I have friends and family who are all over the map politically. I have never struggled to maintain those relationships or even talk politics because I respect their humanity. At the end of the day, we're all people who believe we know best. We are all people who believe what we want is for the best. If you recognize that reality, you don't dehumanize those who disagree with you. If you recognize that we're all Americans, you don't get caught in the trap of seeing those who disagree with you as the enemy. It all comes down to a choice.

Do you have the humility to recognize that your opinions aren't infallible?(And I am referring to a general "you," not you specifically) If you can recognize that, you can have disagreements without resentment.

But yes, I do agree that we should keep politics off the site. The internet brings out the worst in people.

It's terrible that a simple traffic stop can escalate into that. However a simple "yes officer I'll try to be more careful next time" and she's on her way. That's what ramball(?) was just saying. Be polite and there will be no trouble.

Think he called it unnecessary force.....and profiling.....two very credible claims when, ONE: you are tackled to the ground....and TWO: haven't committed any crime.

Curious.....have they ever FOUND the shooter? LVPD....

Still haven't FOUND Tu Pac's killer either....in Vegas.....fight night....eye witnesses everywhere.
Sorry man but nah - fuck no. The douche made all kinds of accusations like being held at gun point and being called the N word by a white officer. It was all debunked in the videos and he made no attempt to apologize or admit his "mistake". He's a POS and no amount of excusing his behavior changes that. He's a race baiting ass hole.

That's the opposite of the advice that the vast majority of lawyers will give you.
Probably the stupidest comment I think I've ever heard...in my lifetime!

And that's why we don't do politics here. It inevitably causes responses like this.

Anyway, can someone other than a Ram please get arrested so that we can move this thread back to where it was before?

Well, you get to make your own choices in life. You won't be the first person to ignore what the lawyers are telling you. Some don't end up regretting it; some end up regretting it in a major way. But ignoring what the experts are telling you is generally not an intelligent decision.

One great thing though is that even though we do not have a specific forum to discuss impassioned topics like politics, race etc.....we do now and then inevitably skim those topics in other forums. Though the site mods have their antennae out, they're basically using the common sense rule because there's a pretty good understanding of human nature here. Another thing is that our Mods also engage and participate. That's very important. I've seen other places where the moderation would be silent because they didn't want to deal with constant debate The air got thick there. Seemed like there was always tension. Theres never tension here.

But anyway....I think Bennett is an idiot. I do not think @LACHAMP46 is an idiot. Pretty obvious stuff.

I actually use one simple beer rule. If I feel like I can have a beer with you, I'm good. I can have a beer with CHAMP any time, or a coke with @Prime Time. (even though I think we both have weak bladders and would spend half the time running to the bathroom. lol) I probably would not enjoy a beer with Michael Bennett, so I'm gonna avoid him at the casino. I've actually had 2 fellas here where I openly said.."I can tell that you and I would not enjoy sharing a beer together, so I'm out." And I've been done with them ever since.

Its all common sense stuff. Im glad we use common sense here instead of a handbook. And I do not think we should have a flame forum because yes, its spills over.

My first, last, and therefor only comment on this topic.

In my humble opinion the biggest problem in our society today, and you can extend this to pretty much every corner of society, is the absolute, incessant, uncompromising NEED to win. To never, ever, ever, under any circumstances, admit that you were wrong, and that maybe, just maybe, the other guy has a point. No, it's all wrong, even when it's clearly not. We HAVE to win, because otherwise... well, I'm not sure what. People insist they are right because to admit they were wrong would be catastrophic. As mentioned, families and friends torn apart, because of one or another's absolute refusal to say either "let's agree to disagree, and still be cool with each other", or, perhaps more importantly, say "you know what, you have a point..."

It has been my experience that the VAST majority of people are good and decent and kind. Just because they have different political, religious, or societal views doesn't change that.

So you are saying that lawyers advise to not "cooperate"? or are you saying that lawyers advise not to say anything once you are arrested? I think there's a pretty significant distinction. My niece is with the DAs office and her husband a judge. From talking to them and my time as a pre-law student, I think it would all differ with your statement. When a cop gives a crowd an order and you disobey it, or tells you to stop and you continue to run or fight back, that is not something your attorney would have advised. Shut up afterward? Certainly. But that's hardly what we're talking about here.

I think we all need to give Bennet a break.

He hasn't been the same since getting popped by Hekker.

I'm saying that you shouldn't talk to the police without a lawyer if you're being investigated for more than an infraction. You have to cooperate with lawful commands. However, that's easier said than done in an active shooter situation.
