Nobody ever heard of? He played for the college that is 1st in all time wins and usually leads the country in attendance with crowds over 111,000 some games.
Um… he was a 6th round pick with an utterly pedestrian college career.

You would pick a Heisman winner or national champ if you were making some great marketing plan… and you’d also have to schedule Bledsoe’s injury.

Well that is all part of what some of us are saying here. Them destroying the tapes tells us a story. Namely that the NFL covered the Patriots asses and why would they do that? This is why the discussion is not tinfoil hat conspiracy fodder. It's real.
Just my 2 cents.... I do indeed believe the Pats taped multiple teams. Including the Rams walkthrough before the SB.

And I believe the NFL burned the tapes and actively suppressed the evidence in order to prevent an even larger scandal.

So yeah, I believe individual ppl (and individual teams) are quite capable of cheating.

But for me, the idea of several owners colluding in order to "take turns" and benefit the "best storyline team" is an entirely different matter, and IMHO doesn't sound plausible. If nothing else, this would require cooperation, something which would be hard to accomplish with huge egos and personal rivalries.

"They" push one team one year, and another the next, and another the next? I just don't believe the owners could "take turns" and sacrifice their own selfish interests for the sake of rival teams-- not without ironclad, enforceable rules of order.

So, again… you’re talking about different things.

Looking the other way in steroids benefited all of baseball. Offensive explosion. More interesting. Not “cheating” to “steer” a team’s success.
So, let’s throw that out.

Your final paragraph is your crux and ignores any reality.

The idea that the NFL needed to keep the Pats going? And… somehow… wouldn’t get the Rams that win in the Super Bowl?!? Lol
And that we’d be going on three decades with no Cowboys Super Bowl????

The stories and narratives to create an exciting Super Bowl exist every season.

One core thing that gets me about conspiracy stuff .. is how they always benefit someone else… and how, in sports, they do often aim to tear down great teams and individuals.
The complete denial that there can be true greatness.

Nope, not throwing out the steroids. Steroids in baseball don't help a player hit a curve ball, but it does help players show up for the next game and the next in the grind that is 162 game regular season. The year after Barry Bonds hit 75 HRs, he only played like 62 games... he was constantly injured... which is part for the course with an aging player. Corked bats also lead to more offense and MLB doesn't allow those, so...

The issue isn't so much "keep the Pats going" as ignoring their ongoing cheating, aka the ongoing criminal enterprise (which, by the way, if the NFL were a sport, than every fan who was at those games would have grounds to sue for FRAUD) and destroying those tapes would be destruction of evidence and could lead to certain summary findings.

If the NFL could have overturned that lack of PI in the NFC championship game, they would have and New Orleans would have gone to the Super Bowl. They fixed that and we've seen some PI shenanigans since then in the playoffs.

Also, I have zero interest in even hearing someone defend the Pats... for anything. So if that's the crux, then we can drop this now because... and I can't say this with enough emphasis...

FUCK THE PATRIOTS!!!

Just to add… if it was about benefiting the NFL and TV contracts.. there’s simply no way you’re premier brand, the Cowboys, wouldn’t be in the Super Bowl.
You would see more Chicago Super Bowls and the Raiders would still be in Oakland.

And you wouldn’t have gone 20+ years with no team in LA.

How good is the NFL at conspiracy?
Well… ask St Louis and it’s 800 million settlement.

Stahp...

The NFL continues to make a ton of money from the Cowboys without them being in the playoffs.

The point is that they follow multiple narratives. How many times have the Cowboys screwed the pooch when handed everything? There's only so much they could do to elevate the Cowboys.

Also, I never said that the NFL simply picks a team and then anoints them and every call goes there way. I said that they "steer" desired outcomes... and it doesn't always work.

Nope on the baseball.
You’re missing the point…. People all over the game were doing it.

And… again… maybe they don’t see the filming the way you do.

And… again… none of this reinforces the idea the league is steering outcomes.

You hit it.

There are multiple narratives that are exciting, interesting and engaging.

MANY.

That’s why they don’t need to get involved.

That’s because you are all over the map. Just so we are clear exactly who is orchestrating all of this? Is it the NFL, the refs or the players?

The NFL with the assistance of a few refs. I've consistently said that. I don't think any players are involved and even if it would make it easier for the NFL, I don't think they'd ever trust a player.

So for the last 50 years we have people running around saying they’ve seen UFOs but in all that time not one ref has come out and said this is going on? C’mon man!!!

Ummm I'm not arguing about him getting favorable treatment or who was picked for what. I'm arguing you don't start for 2 years for
one of the top football programs of all time and nobody knows who you are.

He was a 6th round pick. The only people who knew him were his mother and father.

It’s not like every owner doesn’t benefit from having a good product that appears to have parity to keep fans of all teams interested and spending their money. However, that money is nothing compared to the huge contracts they get from tv and advertising add on top of that the cut they get from gambling and fans don’t mean shit to the game.

They all share, thinking the owners aren’t smart enough, evil enough, greedy enough to orchestrate something like that is naive.
