Great story about Dave Peacock, potential for Rams' relocation: http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2015/02/16/Franchises/Peacock-St-Louis.aspx
I too live in Illinois-2 hours away in Charleston. This is Bears & Colts territory, but a few of us drive down to the ED to see at least 1-2 games per year. The support here in the Midwest is, indeed, regional, not just local. Unfortunately, very few games make it on the tube here, and I have Dish, not Direct-TV, so no NFL ticket. I watch a halting, streaming feed via Europe of the Rams games. The feed sucks almost as bad as they have, Lol, but I still watch. I'll be glad when this fiasco is over..but I have enjoyed reading all of the posts from you guys!! Wish I had the time to do more research to add to the conversation-you guys are amazing!Count me as one of the Illinois residents who comes across the bridge to see games. That's the part that many people who live in other parts of the country don't understand. The St. Louis area also includes residents of metro east over in Illinois and there are TONS of Cardinals and Rams fans over there. I'm in O'fallon, IL, and the ride from there to the dome is a lot easier than my ride over from North St. Louis County was when I lived there. They even have the Cards and Rams Express in Fairview Heights for the residents over there. For $5, they will provide you with a ride to and from Busch Stadium and the EJD. All you have to do is park at St. Clair Mall and hop on the buses they have circling in and out. I even see fans of other teams on the bus, though they are normally greatly outnumbered.
Can't do that, they need to maintain the illusion that they actually care about the fans and see us as more than just walking sacks of money eager to give it away.
Being that it is obviously slow on the information front I suppose we can continue to derail this thread a bit.
I'd rather figure out a way to provide some infrastructure or clean water so they can maybe stop being poor rather than provide some family a house that they can't maintain. Give 'em a fish vs. teach 'em how to fish - y'know?

blue came back with:
Many parts of the world you'd need a revolution before anything trickles down to the poor.
Thordaddy observed :
If you've ever studied Maslow it becomes obvious the the worst thing to do to people isn't to tax them to redistribute to the "poor" the worst thing you do is remove the recipients opportunity /motivation to rise to the higher levels of development. The need to justify ones self worth depends upon what they contribute, not what the contributors supply to them.

OK that's my wisdom for the day, back to being a dummy.
You saying to teach them to fish?
I really just wanted to participate in the thread derailment like the other cool kids.
It was a different climate then than now! Worst drafting team ever in George Boone and co. Bidwill was tighter than a drum and the stadium was 20 years old! No playoffs here and of course no Superbowl Champs. Still, I missed having the team to watch at Busch!I remember when Bidwell was trying to force St. Louis to build him a new stadium for the Big Red-things got really contentious between the city, county, & the football team. My memory sucks, I admit it, but I seem to recall a general feeling of "hope the door kicks you in the ass on your way out going to Phoenix" ...this time around, the threat of losing a football team is entirely different- we are fighting to keep our team. Thankfully, cooler heads are leading the way this time...maybe for naught-that remains to be seen.
BernieM said:I can't go into details but just want to reaffirm that Dave Peacock is still very much on course and that he's receiving positive feedback and encouragement from the league. Spoke to him for about 30 minutes today - and nothing has changed in terms of his confidence level and demeanor. Because he's been working on so many different fronts, he remains upbeat on stadium financing and would welcome a chance to make a presentation to the owners - which is a distinct possibility in May. A lot of interesting things going on behind the scenes. Gov. Nixon continues to have regular dialogue with Roger Goodell, and Peacock frequently confers with Eric Grubman on the STL stadium issues. The league (according to Peacock) has a full understanding of the ongoing efforts here and is pleased with the progress.
Just passing along what I can. I've been dealing with Peacock on this stuff for two years and his frame of mind is as positive as it has ever been.
Feel free to disregard.

I was talking to one of my buddies today who said he has family in St.Louis. He says they don't care about the Rams and think nobody else does either. It's a "baseball town". I tried to tell him differently, but no dice. It's really aggravating.
You can find them in St Louis and you could find them in LA when the Rams and Raiduhs left. Purely anecdotal on that front. I'm sure most real football fans in St Louis would hate to see the Rams leave.I was talking to one of my buddies today who said he has family in St.Louis. Brought? Probably not. But I wouldn't doubt for a second that they would allow him to make a presentation. St Louis is where the Rams call home and at minimum they would want to look like they are giving everyone an equal shake - especially being that he is lead man on the effort to keep the NFL in that market with the backing of the state's governor.I'd be shocked if the owners brought Peacock to the meetings.
