RE: Perkins… I was listening to NFL radio today for a 45min drive… They convinced me to add Perkins to the roster - for CoVID alone.

It sounds like a few teams are keeping that 3rd QB away from the other 2 in case of CoVID.

They used Philly as the example, adding Minshew already having Flacco with Jalen Hurts. Keeping all 3.

Anyway… they made a good case for it. Imagine if Stafford tested positive on game day. What if Wolford needs to also quarantine? Just like what happened with Hekker and Bojorquez. Took both guys out.

Could cost us a game, maybe two. That’s a big deal for a team with Superbowl aspirations.

The logic is… Stash Perkins and give yourself a chance if that happens.

.
Interesting idea!

Practically speaking though, it seems like it would be hugely challenging to keep one QB "separated" from the other 2. Seems like coaches and players (in the same position group) are constantly comparing notes and conversing, etc. I get the logic behind the idea, just seems like it would be a challenge to implement.

All very reasonable questions on your part ... and shared by me while trying to prepare this list. No doubt, it's a crapshoot at this point. My final results left us thin at CB and ILB, and this is bothersome, although there is just too much talent elsewhere I couldn't imagine letting get away. Likely McSnead will see things very differently than my offering. While I believe a good proportion of those heading towards the practice squad will be lost during the waiver period, I can only hope that those replacement players Snead will pick-up offer just as much or more talent to our team's bottom line. jmo.

Interesting to see so many think Xavier Jones is gone. is ability to block alone makes him valuable.

I just think X Jones will clear waivers. With RB you can have a chance to find one if you get an injury. There's gonna be guys on PS across the league who are like X Jones, the guys who have a little something but are limited athletically, or in size, etc.

Also teams will as always factor in. There's probably gonna be two or three we shake our head at and it will be due to ST.

I can only speak for myself, but Sony Michel offers more blocking security with his added capabilities, and I still have us seeking a 3'rd/4'th RB on the 53 thru a waiver acquisition, a vet free agent or another trade to bolster our RB depth chart. Still wouldn't mind seeing a HB/FB added here either. jmo.

Will go 4 at CB to start, then if they IR someone, they can add a CB from waiver wire or one of our cuts.

And I cant see them cutting Jones. Did well with shitty blocking in the games.

Current Nuggets of Thoughts on @Riverumbbq projected MR53

*A healthy DB Terrell Burgess can allow Rams only 4 corners & go heavy @ safety unit where the better fringe DB's are. Burgess can play any of the secondary posts.

*The presence of DB's like Jalen Ramsey/ Taylor Rapp/ JR Reed can permit the downsize ILB'er unit (where the talent is not as high). These 3 DB's can play a very important role inside the ILB'er unit.

* DL coach Henderson has done an outstanding job to the point where one of my biggest concerns going into this season (lack of pass rush DL'ers) is better than in the past yrs. The new trio of Mike Hoecht, Jonah Williams & Eric Banks will give Aaron Donald the badly needed help he was lacking last season outside of Morgan Fox.

*Going heavy in the OL unit is very wise. Keeping so many young OL'ers (10) will greatly assist this organization in dealing with the precarious situation & loss of four key starting OL'ers early next year.

I believe this to be the case. I think another team would grab him. He showed poise, mobility, pocket awareness, escapes and can make something out of nothing AND showed some decent accuracy on short throws.

He's a big arm away from being a really good starting NFL QB.

But IMO this preseason showed that he can be a great backup. There are probably a dozen teams who would snatch him up.

Not to mention that he has a decent grasp of what we want to do this year, I'm sure - so what's to stop Seattle or Arizona from grabbing him?
Yes... and if that happened they would learn that our game plan is to throw two dozen short passes to Tutu Atwell.

The covid factor to me is compelling. Can't give away a game with only two qbs and both land in the protocol.

Two other reasons they may keep him. I doubt that McVay would have advertised Perkins by playing him so much without planning to protect him. He would have stashed him more.

And I doubt that he would have played him so much unless he saw at least a potential need to play him in the regular season. McVay may also remember the playoffs last year Wolford went down and he had to bring in Goff with a screwed up thumb.

Agree with a lot of this. Have been saying Burgess is your #5 CB and simply they can activate a CB from the PS if needed during the season and their #5 CB may not even be on the team now... Certainly no one currently that warrants a spot.

DL is deep and would love to see 2 of those 3 UDFA's from last yr stick even if you go light at ILB where not only can a S play there in passing downs, but Hollins could play inside if needed and again if your playing a heavy run team that week you can activate someone from your PS.

Yes little threat of Perkins throwing deep - but then again, we were near the bottom of the league in air yards per attempt last year anyway.

Relevant because Kupp and Woods are YAC monsters. Higbee pretty good as well.

And Perkins also adds the QB run dimension as well, which would make up for that a bit

Agree about Perkins not making deep throws. If he had a great arm he would be a great prospect.

Still imo Perkins could run the first string offense in a real game and probably make plays, move the ball, and limit turnovers. Enough juice to fill the role of backup and give the team (the defense if need be) a chance to win.

But it's tough choices for the roster all around.

Last year we didn't have Stafford & Jackson, so my belief is that McVay has very different intentions with the speed receiving game this season. Van Jefferson will also get more looks in 2021, and then there is that new X factor and how McVay will utilize Atwell. Expect Higbee to be targeted a good deal more this season also.
Perkins should be fine as a #3 QB, but I don't have unrealistic hopes for his arm helping our team in this area where we should now excel, with quick, accurate throws in the middle and longer ranges. If Perkins can spend time on the practice squad developing that arm strength, his value increases twofold. jmo.

I consider it very risky to release & give other teams access to emerging interior DL pass-rushing threats like Mike Hoecht or Jonah Williams both played all the DL posts this preseason. The Rams will not have the chance to resign them again.

Donald will be 30 yrs old this year needs all the pass-rushing help he can get. He will not get it from A'Shawn Robinson, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Bobby Brown & Greg Gaines.

I think someone’s spent too much time in certain threads. ;)

But seriously, BB3 could end up being an amazing pass rusher. That’s the main thing that I loved about him; he has the ability to blow up offensive lines through sheer strength alone.

Honestly, I see Trishton Jackson making the roster. I’d personally take out Shelton for him.

Otherwise (aside from Robinson instead of Hoecht; I don’t think he goes on IR), that’s how I see it…except Rozeboom being on the practice squad as well.
I would never replace a depth OL for a 6th WR.
Just me.

Part of the reason (besides liking him since the Rams signed him) I kept Copeland was to have a more even depth distribution with the DL stated positions (DT, NT, DE).
But, the Rams will play two DL a lot on passing downs so it probably matters less.

Maybe Memento but right now this near 340 pound DL'er can not remain healthy to stay on the field. Brown sorta reminds me of KC's Chris Jones when he came out of college into the NFL. We all know how good he turned out. But Jones was only 310 lbs & close to 6-6 tall. Brown is only 6-4.

Not sure why my spell checker does that I always had that problem with OL Bobby Evans too.
