Nice work.

I might go with a better pass rushing 5T DE like Jonah Williams or Eric Banks instead of a 6'th Safety, but it's a tough call.
I'm still undecided whether it be a #3 Center or Brewer as the 9'th offensive lineman, I hope to see more of Brewer at RT next week, should become my deciding factor. jmo.

Some likely cuts this week:

Haydel. Had a key drop in the game. Things are too big for the guy it's time.

Gervaise. Gave up a big crosser that hurt us. Looked bad in coverage. The guy was moved to ILB to keep him around a bit longer and see if he can improve us in the pass game off ball but not seeing it. It's time for him to go.

Anderson. I knew he wasn't good enough the moment I looked at his college film. Small guy who lacks enough speed to compensate. Goes down with a shoestring. Not noteworthy in the pass game or run game. This is his week to be cut he won't make it to the final week IMO.

Olumba. Another guy who doesn't belong. It's time.

I think they keep Haydel around another week so they have enough receivers for the game.

Once the game is over though, he will probably get his notice.

Time to update my 53-man roster, haha! (As a note, this is what I would do.)

QB (2): Matthew Stafford, Bryce Perkins.

(Yeah, I like Wolford, but Perkins has been an absolute revelation.

RB (4): Tony Pollard (Dallas trade), Darrell Henderson, Xavier Jones, Jake Funk.

(Here, I trade a compensatory third (the one we got for Holmes) for Pollard to be the guy from here on out; I have no faith that Akers comes back from an Achilles when no back has come back from. Henderson could be a solid backup, and Jones and Funk provide special teams depth.)

TE (4): Tyler Higbee, Jacob Harris, Kendall Blanton, Ben Skowronek.

(Yeah, I like Blanton a lot more than Mundt. Skowronek, in my honest opinion, fits more at tight end than receiver. I don't want to lose him to waivers.)

WR (6): Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, Desean Jackson, Chatarius Atwell, Trishton Jackson.

(Not much to say. I like Koski, but not more than T-Jax, and I really don't want to lose T-Jax to waivers.)

OL (9): Andrew Whitworth, David Edwards, Austin Corbett, Tremayne Anchrum, Rob Havenstein, Joseph Noteboom, Brian Allen, Alaric Jackson, Coleman Shelton.

(I simply do not trust Allen as a starter. I'm sorry, but he's going to have to prove it on the field that he's improved. But in my mind, he's made the roster. I'm very much bullish on Anchrum; he looks like he could be a stud on the line. Noteboom and Allen provide depth. Jackson has been a pleasant surprise this camp, and we have to put him on the 53 or he'll be taken. Shelton provides depth over the interior.)

DL (7): Aaron Donald, Sebastian Joseph-Day, A'Shawn Robinson, Greg Gaines, Bobby Brown III, Earnest Brown IV, Jonah Williams.

(Not much different from my original list...but Jonah Williams has earned his roster slot with his play. And I still like Eric Banks and Michael Hoecht.)

LB 8): Leonard Floyd, Justin Hollins, Justin Lawler, Terrell Lewis, Chris Garrett, Ernest Jones, Travin Howard, Troy Reeder.

(As much as I hate to say it...we're not going to get much better depth than Reeder. Kiser and Okoronkwo are cut and yes, while I'm going for risk with both Lawler and Lewis on the roster along with Garrett as a rookie, the reward is going to be amazing. And while there's only three inside linebackers, I consider Rapp to be the weak-side linebacker in most packages, with Howard and Reeder providing depth.)

DB (10): Jalen Ramsey, Darious Williams, David Long, Robert Rochell, Kareem Orr, Jordan Fuller, Taylor Rapp, Terrell Burgess, J.R. Reed, Nick Scott.

(Our cornerbacks seem set; I like Orr as a special teams player, along with Scott, Reed, and Rochell. There's not much to say otherwise; there's a few with potential like Troy Warner and Brontae Harris who we can stash on the practice squad, but other than that...well, yeah.)

ST (3): Matthew Gay, Johnny Hekker, Steven Wirtel.

(The only question is that Hekker is our punter. I'd try to trade Bojorquez for a late round pick, if I can; some team is going to need a solid punter.)

Practice squad (16 + International):

Max Pircher (Int.)
Jordan Meredith
Eric Banks
Michael Hoecht
Christian Rozeboom
Brontae Harris
Tyler Hall
Troy Warner
Landen Akers
J.J. Koski
(7 fill-ins)

(Pircher deserves a shot to go on the practice squad as an international signing (doesn't count against the 16, but you can't bring him up this year). Banks and Hoecht show potential on the D-line, and Meredith is an interesting player for the O-line. Rozeboom just couldn't crack the roster, Harris and Hall are interesting corners, Warner looks like a solid safety, and Akers and Koski just miss out due to the sheer depth we have at receiver. I'm not going to predict our other spots (unless Brycen Hopkins, Chandler Brewer, and JuJu Hughes are eligible to be on our practice squad?), as it' san exercise in futility.)

Well...that does it. I'm very much concerned about our running back room, but other than that, I think we have a real chance at winning a Super Bowl.

Nice one. The one I do differ on is Skowronek being a TE. Skowronek has never played TE in his career thus far, and Rams coaches have no inkling of playing him at TE, this is something only us Ram fans have wanted, and since our vote doesn’t count it won’t happen. That is why I think the Rams go with only 3 TE’s and 7 receivers; thus keeping Skowronek as a receiver. That way both the coaches and the fans get what they relatively want.

Really like what you’ve done here. It’s both realistic and eye opening—for 2 reasons.

Loaded: DBs. Can we just “free” Deayon so he gets a chance to play somewhere? He’s always one of the last cuts. Some good players going to the PS.

LB: I see you cut bait with Lewis. When a team has this much talent, the rope is short. We will miss his handful of good plays, but we’ll just have to get them from somebody else.

OL: I’m not as down on this group as I have been in the past, but I haven’t seen the starters yet! Can we get away with sneaking Meredith to the PS? I like his potential and should there be an injury and the Rams have to call somebody up... I would even be open to keeping him on the 53 and putting Jackson on the PS because we still have Noteboom and Anchrum as backup Tackles.

Not so deep:
RB: yeah, that has gone from an exciting group to a huge concern in about a month. Losing Calais is twofold in that it puts another RB at risk if Funk has to go back there and return kicks. Henderson needs to be careful even when he’s brushing his teeth! I admit that I have now come full circle on the RB issue.

DL: There’s really only 3 guys we know and one is a backup (Gaines). Robinson simply HAS to produce this season and at least one of the rookie Browns has to prove to be a fast learner.

It's one day before Independence Day as I sit here looking out at the lake it has A Hound of Baskerville look to it with all the rain, but I am enjoying my fine Columbian Beverage (Starbucks French Roast) and feel it's time to pontificate putting together my final 53, opening myself up for fun & games fired up after watching the video that @Florida_Ram shared with us, so in the words of Jackie Gleason....Away we go.

QB (2)
Matthew Stafford....He's ours for better or worse and hopefully he's much better, catapulting the Los Angeles Rams into the Kurt Warner stratosphere.

John Wolford....Everything you want in a backup, feisty, cerebral and the ability to take off and run, hopefully, he works on protecting himself better.

RB(4)
Cam Akers...Number One and will be on the field more, just needs to work on staying healthy in order to be the bell cow.

Darrell Henderson...Needs to stay healthy, if he can, IMO, he can lesson the load on Akers and give the Rams that jolt with his speed combined with his ability to catch the football.

Xavier Jones...Bigger back, that could be counted on for some of the tough yards, also I believe will be good in pass protection and I'm anxious to see him in preseason.

Jake Funk...The Maryland flash, that should be an asset on special teams too, plus being the kick returner adding some sizzle to the backfield.

WR(6)
Robert Woods....The consummate professional that was almost traded, but is worth the price because he does it all including blocking.

Cooper Kupp....Everybody's wonder boy, let's keep him healthy so Kupp can be as good in post season as he is during the regular season.

DeSean Jackson....Glad he's a Ram, he's fast and IMO, has one more great year left in him.

Van Jefferson....Time to pick it up on gameday, he can be special and this could be the year Jefferson breaks through.

Tutu Atwell....I believe will be the punt returner too, plus gives the Rams the added speed to ensure they don't suffer from vertical congestion.

Ben Skowronek....Big Ben, Parliament gives the Rams a big target in the Red Zone plus offers new special team coach Joe DeCamillis a stalwart on special teams, which propels him over Trishton Jackson.

TE(4)
Tyler Higbee....Number one in the clubhouse, has improved each year and with Stafford could be his best year yet.

Johnny Mundt....Blocks well, plays well on special teams and has provided some quality minutes.

Brycen Hopkins.....Has not shown much, but it only takes one big play in preseason to turn heads.

Jacob Harris....He's been a darling, let's see what he has when the bullets start flying, however, special teams could be where we see him most.

OL (9)
Andrew Whitworth....Like a Fine Wine, only getting better with age.

David Edwards....Better in pass pro, then run blocking, however, he should be ready to put it all together.

Austin Corbett....Moves to center, giving the Rams more size and hopefully stability at the point of attack.

Bobby Evans....Proved he can run block, improving in pass protection is a must, but together with Havenstein, running right will be a staple.

Rob Havenstein....He's the first one off of everybody's list, but when healthy is able to hold up in pass protection,, plus a total asset in the run game.

Chandler Brewer....Swing tackle & guard, Rams glad to have him back.

Joseph Noteboom....Joe just needs to stay healthy and be ready at a moments notice.

Tremayne Anchrum....Another that can play multiple positions.

Coleman Shelton....Bigger and more versatile then Brian Allen, but will have to prove he can play Center in preseason to beat out the former Spartan.

25 (Offense)

DL(7)
Aaron Donald....He's simply the very best.

Sebastian Joseph-Day....He gets better & better every year.

A'Shawn Robinson....As we all sing in unison, Here's to you Mrs. Robinson.

Bobby Brown....Love everything about Big, Bad, Bobby Brown, he will be better being coached up by DL Coach Eric Henderson.

Ernest Brown,...The other Brown, but be ready to love this kid because they do it right at Northwestern.

Greg Gaines....Started coming on last year and I expect even better in 2021.

Eric Banks....Coached by Henderson in college, made the squad last year, this year, he stays on the whole year.

LB (8)
Leonard Floyd....A great year in 2020, looking forward to him being the leader of this group.

Travin Howard....The time is now, former Safety, like Littleton, needs to stay healthy and prove his worth.

Ernest Jones....Rookie breaks through as a starter because all he does is make tackles.

Justin Hollins...Better outside then inside and Rams are fortunate Broncos cut him loose.

Troy Reeder....Has improved each year and very good on special teams.

Obo Okoronkwo....Should be a good rotation with Hollins.

Micah Kiser....Had some moments last year, now still makes the squad, but Jones starts over the former Cavalier.

Justin Lawler....My surprise as Terrell Lewis begins the season on the PUP list & Chris Garrett needs one year on the practice squad.

CB (5)
Jalen Ramsey....Can't spell Ramsey, without Rams.

Darious Williams....Might be the best pure cover corner on the roster.

David Long....Some good news about him in OTA's, need the former Wolverine to make an impact in 2021.

Robert Rochell....He was steal and should improve week over week.

Brian Poole....I'm predicting with the release of Hekker the Rams add the former Falcon/Jet at CB.

Safety(5)
Jordan Fuller...Academic All American will call the signals on Defense

Terrell Burgess....Free Safety good in coverage.

Taylor Rapp....Will come in on 3rd downs, playing the linebacker role, plus blitzing quite often.

Nick Scott....Great on special teams and has shown growth at the position.

Juju Hughes...Hughes can cover, the others can't.

Defense (25)

Special Teams(3)
Matt Gay
....Glad he was available, gives the Rams a young kicker with a big leg on FG's & Kickoffs.

Corey Bojorquez....Maybe, maybe not, but he's younger with a big leg & saves money, which enables the Rams to add Poole.

Steve Wirtel...They added Matt Orzech, who did snap for DeCamillis in Jacksonville, but DeCamillis did cut him. IMO, reading up on Wirtel, he's too good at his craft and I believe will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Chris Massey & Jake McQuaide.

As to Punt Returner, they go with Atwell, with Funk as a backup plan with Jake handling the KR duties too, plus either Wolford or Bojorquez will take over as the holder.
Hey Coach. Just a job well done. Well thought out ,very educated post.

You and I saw eye to eye on Earnest Jones.
After the Rams drafted him I read knocks on his range from more than a few pre draft writers.
But when I watched his footage ,I just did not get that sense. Seemed to be a fairly rangy guy ,for his position.

For me the key was reading and watching over and over- " The guy just makes tackles- Always around the ball"
When your looking for someone to man the middle, those statements to me are the siren song you want to hear.

Other than Garrett I read nothing that I could say I disagree with.
Again, One hell of a write up. Thanks.

I would change Howard to Kiser

I just was not impressed with Howard's play last night.

He missed way too many tackles.

I find myself thinking we keep 2QBs. I think we would like to carry 4 RBs but we only have 3 of those guys are on the roster.

If the punter competition was really a competition, then it may have been won last night.

Why keep Perkins on the 53? He’s not that good. Preseason hype on him is over the top. I’d use that spot for another corner like Orr, or Olineman like Merrideth.

Wirtl was released wasn’t he?

Perkins over Wolford? Seriously? Come on man! Don’t get sucked in by the hype.

If they could trade Perkins for a late pick then they should if they think he will be picked from the PS. Turning an UDFA into a pick is good biz.

Why keep Perkins on the 53? He’s not that good. Preseason hype on him is over the top. I’d use that spot for another corner like Orr, or Olineman like Merrideth.

Wirtl was released wasn’t he?

I agree I like Perkins, but would keep another position. If Perkins gets claimed the Rams can find another to develop on the practice squad. I like Meredith or picking up another interior OL off waivers.

This is actually a 52 because I'm wishy washy and can't decide if the Rams will go with 3 QBs or 4 RBs. I will say that I don't think they will do both.
This is also just the initial 53. As we all know, surprises happen and the Rams could pickup and outside player like they did with Hollins a couple of years ago. We'll see!

2 QBS
Stafford and Wolford
I just don't think Perkins has shown enough with his arm for a team to put him on the active roster.

3 RBs
Henderson, Michel and Funk
Numbers game, for now, and Jones may or may not be injured. Even if he isn't, he hasn't shown me enough to think he will be picked up for certain.

4 TEs
Higbee, Mundt, Hopkins and Harris.
Hopkins draft position, performance and ST plays will win him the job over Blanton.

6 WRs
Kupp, Woods, DJax, Tutu, Jefferson and Trishton

9 Oline
Whit, Evans, Allen, Corbett, Hav
Noteboom, Anchrum, Brewer and Evans.
I like what I saw from Jackson and his potential, but I don't think he's quite ready. I've been wrong before. Shelton will make it through to PS, I believe.

7 Dline
Donald, SJD, Robinson, Gaines, BBrown, Banks and Hoecht.
I feel like Banks has the build to play DE in some "big" packages. Am I off here? I'm talking more of a 4 man front than three man.

5 OLB
Floyd, Hollins, Lawler, Lewis and Garrett
Obo dinged up again and Lewis playing. I don't think they keep 6 and just love Garrett's upside too much to let him escape.

4 ILB
Young, Reeder, Jones and Howard
Howard did *not* impress me last night, I was disappointed. But I just don't see Kiser beating him out with the type of LB they need in that group. Jones is getting too much hype from many, in my opinion, right now.

4 CB
Ramsey, Williams, Long and Rochelle

5 Safety
Fuller, Rapp, Scott, Burgess and Reed
Hughes has a future but barely misses the cut here.

3 Specialists
Gay, Bojorquez and Orzech
Breaks my effing heart to see Hekker go, but I think it's the smart move. $$ and a younger and more powerful leg.

I would change Howard to Kiser

I just was not impressed with Howard's play last night.

He missed way too many tackles.
I feel ya.
I just think Kiser is too similar to Reeder to be on the roster and Howard brings a speed element that Kiser doesn't. But, yeah.. Howard wasn't great last night. Jones either.

No Earnest Brown?

I like this from Carmen DaSilva although I still feel they will keep Coleman Shelton for a true backup Center or claim someone off waivers and cut Bobby Evans, but that's just me.

Shelton is staying I’m sure.
Evans is a tricky one for me.
He has so much potential as a run blocker and is generally bad as a pass blocker. I was really hoping he would take the next step this offseason. He did play better vs Denver including a really nice play that allowed a nice little screen pass early on.
But....hard to know.

Yeah, don't know what to do with Evans, maybe he's a better tackle then guard, but pass protection is always an issue and A.J. Jackson played well in pass protection at LT.
