My larger point still stands. There are 10-12 QBs—minimum!—that would be having at least the same amount of success as Goff in Detroit. Again, I’m not saying he sucks. I’m just saying he’s a “good not great” QB playing in the best situation out of all 32 QBs.

I think the exact same thing about Sam Darnold in Minnesota. KOC+JJ+Addison+Flores and that D?? Oh yeah there are *several QBs* killing it in that situation.
Again…remove any emotion. And stick with a consistent perspective (top 5, top 12, bottom half , etc). Goff is a top 5 MVP candidate by just about anyone’s ranking. Hate Him. Love Him. Over value/under value him. But That’s where he is as the Lions QB….this year. Not 2018/2019/2020/2021. I believe the Lions are the top scoring offense in the NFL and he’s their QB.

I have zero care about Goff anymore, except after Higs injury last year, I want the Lions to LOSE!

The Lions are the #1 offense in the NFL.

Yes, Goff has a great supporting cast.

Yes he falls apart with a bad Oline.

But with a top Oline he is a precision passer as good as any and executes at the highest level, that is undeniable.

Not to mention, Gibbs, Laporta, St. Brown and Williams only became stars at the NFL level with Goff at the helm. None of these guys were former Pro Bowl adds from other teams. He worked with them from the ground up to what they are now. That's impressive.

Goff's legacy is being written and he will need a Super Bowl or he will always be seen in the just another top 15 QB convo.

Even if he is leading the top Offense in the NFL again, while the Mahomes and Strouds look not so stellar.

While I agree with the basic premise of your post - that Goff is an excellent quarterback when everything is in his favour - the above argument in his favour is spurious at best.

These players were all drafted from 2021 onwards, and so have only ever played with one QB; it’s not as though they were disappointing journeymen before who were suddenly revitalised once Goff arrived. Who’s to say that they wouldn’t have been equally productive if another QB had been at the helm in exactly the same circumstances in Detroit?

They might have been, we dont know. But the #1 offense is not something to shrug at, and by definition is elite.

I think Goff's leadership/work with these No NFL experience guys does get overlooked and the consistent precision offense he runs. It allows blank slate WR's to develop and refine their game.

Robert Woods best year with the bills was 65 catch 699 yards. With the Rams he became a 90 catch 1200 YD WR.

Hell, Goff at 24 lead the Rams to a Superbowl with Woods and Cooks.

For all the shit he gets he does have an intriguing resume.

And I am the first to admit he is garbage when his Oline has issues.

I want to know how John Lynch reacted to Brock Purdy interceptions. I couldn't watch the game due to my post dialysis coma that hits me 3 times a week. I've never liked Lynch , so give me another reason to hate him more!

He was all but banging his head on the glass of an isolation booth devoid of any other signs or life.

MVP??? Come on man. There are 10-12 QBs that would be doing the exact same thing in this offense. This is the single most QB friendly system in the entire league outside of maybe Philly.
I don't much care what other QBs might be doing. I care what QBs are actually doing. Goff is putting up MVP caliber production. Unfortunately for him, Lamar is otherworldly this year, so he'll deservedly win it. Regardless, I'm going to give credit where it is deserved. Some of y'all need to let the hate go.

LOL. What????

This is a sober analysis of the Lions roster. It’s the best offensive line in football. It’s the best running game in football. They’ve got top talent at WR and TE. Their OC is literally turning down head coaching gigs. I know some Rams fans have a sentimental attachment to Goff but to act like he’s an MVP caliber player is freaking INSANE. He’s in the same class as Hurts and Purdy. Good enough to take advantage and play well when he’s got talent surrounding him, but with a league average roster he’d be a league average QB….at best.
Goff is having one of the best statistical passing seasons in NFL history ....

Yeah, by his logic Joe Montana was a strapper because he excelled under a great coach with a great line and with great weapons.

Goff has been amazing, now I want to see Ben Johnson actually leave for a Head Coaching gig. I do not understand why he stayed because Assistants do not wait. Anyway, Jerod Goff deserves his success and I wish him the very best just not against the Los Angeles Rams.

Goff did look very good last night.
Never had a thing against him and if was still our QB I would be fine with it.
Luv me some Stafford too.

Seems like a guy with very high confidence. He had opportunities but some were set up for failure, so he took himself out of consideration . Atlanta? Tennessee? Carolina? Seattle? New England? Washington? The Chargers was the best place he could have gone. Herbert and a talented defense.

He's a smart guy who bet on himself (and the Lions players). There are multiple opportunities every year.

This year it's the Raiders, Jets and Bears (so far). Is Chicago the best opportunity for him this year? Depends on whether he believes Caleb is the real deal or not. Is Chicago better than any opportunity he had last year?

And a unique, new offense that the league hadn't yet caught on to.

There’s no hate. It’s just sober analysis. It’s the exact same way I look at Purdy and Hurts. Good not great QBs that are being elevated because of their situations. This isn’t unique to Goff.

And it’s not just Lamar, Goff is behind Allen, Burrow, Saquon, and hell probably Jayden Daniels too.

Not Josh Allen?

Are you saying Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen have nothing around them, that's why they're the mvp favourites?

And hurts/purdy are in the same class? Hurts is the worst passer in the league and Purdy hasn't done it when his team needed it this season.

Goff is closer to mvp than he is to hurts and purdy.

.
Hurts finished second in MVP voting 2 years ago and I was saying the exact same thing about him that I’m saying about Goff now. And when Purdy was getting MVP buzz midway thru last season, I said the same thing then.

And no Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are MVP favorites because their teams success is almost entirely dependent on them playing superhuman level football. The Lions just need Goff to not fuck up. It’s two entirely different situations.

Thank you!! The notion that Goff somehow unlocked these guys unrealized potential is freaking insane. People are inflating his impact on the Lions offense by a large magnitude. If Purdy and Goff changed teams, the Lions would be the exact same team.

I don’t understand why we can’t be happy for Goff but also honest about his situation.

And its why even at the level he is playing at right now, I doubt he would have been able to win the SB in 21' with the Rams. They had no running game and an above average OL at best in terms of pass blocking, but again not a good run blocking group.

He would not have been able to pull those last 3 playoff games out nor some of those games down the stretch of the regular season.

Stafford was the right move and the trade benefitted both teams. Now maybe McVay/Snead could have built a super team around him eventually, but Donald, Whit, Ramsey, and probably Kupp would have never gotten a ring with him.
I think Goff would have beaten Tampa Bay but lose to San Francisco.

Cincinnati would have been a close game but probably lose when OBJ goes down.

Should have taken the Washington job.
