In the celebration thread I was really happy. In this thread I'll convey my concern, what if a Baker Mayfield that know's the offense isn't much better then a Baker Mayfield with 2 days of preparation. Like what if this is his ceiling? Also, talking about replacing Stafford is insanity. Best case scenario is Baker plays his ass off, earns a QB1 job somewhere else, and we get comp picks for him. There is not a situation where Baker starts over a healthy Stafford. And Stafford isn't retiring.

Last night was awesome but anybody else raising their eyebrows when Baker said he took a chance and bought a ticket to LA before anyone even contacted him. That’s pretty ballsy but isn’t it more likely that someone talked to his agent and gave him a heads up. I’m surprised no one’s even suggesting it, I mean he asked for his release and then heads to LA on a hunch. There were 3 teams ahead of the rams but none of them put in a claim.
I’m not complaining it’s just one of those things that make you say hmm.

I have always thought Skow would be a very good receiver in this league and he sure stepped up big last night. Van had the kind of game we always knew he could have and Atwell will be a Ram next season and he will be a starter.
Baker didn't even know the names of the players he was throwing to lol. What a great game to watch as a Ram fan.
Odell who ?? :woozy2:

Who’s looking for problems? I’m just marveling at the amazing alignment of circumstances that led to Mayfield playing qb last night. And if someone is gifting you a horse or anything else it’s probably wise to give it the once over.

Here's another possibility. IF... and that's a big IF. Considering OBJ won't likely play this year....IF there is one person that could potentially facilitate a an OBJ Baker reunion... it would be Sean McVay...

IMO, I believe Mayfield has rejuvenated McVay and I also believe they are a good match. More games to play, but let's hope the OL can hold up and everyone else steps up their game moving forward.
Yeah I think the key for him is the Rams continuing to improve the protections and keeping the run game going. The balancing of the offense is a requirement with this line and Baker will turn it over if they go pass happy.

If those two things happen, though, then Baker should be able to give us a fighting chance in the remaining games.

This gets more and more interesting, all the buzz about OBJ and still he remains unsigned. All the recruiting visits and no takers, I don’t even know if the Rams are interested, the kids are starting to play a little bit. They have to get targets cuz there’s no one else to throw to why mess with that?
The rams made OBJ an offer that he wasn’t happy with but who knows if he’ll get a better one. Are the contenders really going to add him in January, it’s looking like he might not help anyone this year. He tried to coax someone into a multi year deal but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen.

Stafford didn’t look like a guy with a major injury who is on his way out last night during pregame and those last two drives. 2 more years might be the perfect fit for Mayfield to sit and learn behind the maestro.

After everything we’ve heard and seen about Mayfield he has the tools but needs the time to rebuild his image.

Having 2 QBs like them on the roster would be a great situation to be in for the most important position on the team.

I'm questioning everything Rams and football related after last night. We definitely need more of a sample size from Mayfield in this offense but pairing him with McVay might be perfect.

RAMS' LOST SEASON SUDDENLY BRIGHTENED BY BAKER MAGIC

:helmet: Now imagine what Baker Mayfield and Sean McVay can do with two practices together.:shitlogo:

Not to be a buzz killer.......

Last night was epic. Baker looked amazing like a 160 QB rating if he really knew the players on his teams names.

No tape with him with this offense.

Let us see what happens when defenses really study this thing.

If #17 is mature enough to ascertain & feel the current situation in LA at this time with the 3 QB's..... He might seal his future in the NFL in LA with McVay.

Time may be just perfect for #17 in this situation. Like many have stated "It's Early" but it just seems to fit nicely.

Rams will need to clean off some serious cap space in the future & now is not the time for #17 to be greedy & take advantage of the Rams completely UNcertain future QB unit.

I think McVay is #17 best chance to make a comeback in the NFL period.

One element I do know is #17 arm strength is lightyears better than the 2 active QB's we have now.
For all of his weaknesses, dude can straight sling the ball.
I agree with everything you've said.
I could see a team with pieces paying him to come start....Jets, Colts, Titans....for example. Especially if he plays well the rest of this season.

O struggles will still come down to OL and other injuries.
That said, Mayfield has something neither back up does...he can stand in the face of pressure and still deliver the ball down field. We saw several examples of that last night. Also, he can make plays down field with his arm when he gets outside the pocket.
Honestly, the Saints, KC, Tampa Bay, Seattle and Oakland games have shown us a team with a lot of heart.
They have been playing at below 50% starters on one or both sides of ball in all of those games and could easily (maybe should be) 3-2 in those games.
The depth wasn't great....but, it is certainly getting better with the real game reps.
Copeland, Hoecht, Durant, Skow, Tutu, Williams....there have guys that have stepped up and grown through a very tough situation.
I would expect most of those guys to have roles next year.
Next to step up...I hope....Thomas, and another DB, McCutcheon and my dude Trammell.

I really think the odds of Stafford retiring in January is better than even. I think Baker being here makes it easier for Matt, no guilt about leaving his team in a lurch. Realistically what has he got left to prove? He got his ring, which he more than deserved. Time for him to think of his family now. Realistically he really only has two more years beyond this year. AD will retire in 2024. This whole roster will flip in 2025.

No, I think Stafford finds he can make more money in the booth and he can be happy as a husband and father. With Baker here in LA I think he will see his time as done. They will have to get creative with a contract for Baker because if Stafford does retire even if they split his dead cap over 2 years they will be on the hook next year for more than he would have gotten paid. His dead cap will really hurt. But there are about 16 UFA next year with only about 7 projecting as priority extensions. A'Shawn Robinson & Troy Hill should clear enough to sign Baker as a starter. He would likely sign a 3 year deal (2 years by structure) as a prove it contract which will get them through the time needed to clear Stafford off the books.

Baker is no dummy he knew coming out here that the odds were good if he stayed he'd be the heir apparent on a winning organization and a good team. After seeing him in action, he's a mid-tier one QB. Definitely good enough, let's face it, he carried the team on Thursday night so just imagine if he didn't have to.

Yep Baker could be the cure for the Stafford retirement blues. Gotta laugh at the rest of the NFL. The Rams went all in last year with OBJ, Miller, and Stafford and it worked to win a Super Bowl. Now they have a potential franchise QB fall into their laps at no cost. LMFAO

This allows them to wheel and deal to get an elite edge to pick up the slack when AD retires. Yeah, who says it isn't sustainable as long as you have an open mind and are a good judge of talent. If Baker does pan out it will kick the SB window wide open....assuming he validates what he showed on Thursday night. IMO there is no reason to think he won't. Right now Caroline and Cleveland are kicking themselves. It's the difference between good organizations and losers.

Has anyone seen Stanford’s wife’s Pod Cast of late? She will give some kind of indication.

Don’t know about OLD School? Can see it though
