It's post like this that make me question my sanity

I'm questioning everything Rams and football related after last night. We definitely need more of a sample size from Mayfield in this offense but pairing him with McVay might be perfect.

The Raiders did everything they could to let our Rams back into that game. 16-3 late in the fourth quarter and they blew it. That last drive was fantastic, and I am happy for Baker and the Rams. (They are my team, damn it.) I agree, if there is anyone that can get the most out of Baker, It's McVay. Let's look at Baker with the rest of the year before we call him the heir apparent.

Still a lot of season left to play so going to be a little reserved in thinking Mayfield is any kind of long term answer here but god damn did he show what can be last night. Him and McVay are a great matchup and they will feed off each other both in practice and in games which could help keep McVay interested long term also. Mayfield is only 27, even if Stafford decides to give it one more year he won't be 30 if Stafford decides to retire. He'd be in his QB prime with a QB friendly coach. Not to mention his personality would make him a lot of money in LA outside of playing football I'd imagine. Think of the SoFi is his home commercials progressive could bring back!! lol

Optimism in such a shitty season is a very, very nice thing to have again though. I'm excited for these last four games!

Merry Christmas Rams fan!! Baker Mayfield AND our WR3-6 gave us an early Christmas present. Something to be hopeful for the remainder of the year and next year. Win or lose I am love watching every game where the Rams are competitive. Now let’s get a top 10 OL and DB squad!!

I'd love for Stafford to return for another year and Mayfield sign a 2 year contract as a back up with the understanding opportunity is right there to be the heir apparent. Give it another go with Stafford next year and let him ride off into the sunset forever a superbowl champ.
That is certainly best case.
What do you think it will take to get him to stay as a back up?
$5-7 million a year?

He definitely played himself into the conversation. I could see 2yr for 15m total with big incentives that activate if stafford retires in 2024.

A lot depends on Bakers next four games (he has the keys now) and Stafford's decisions this offseason.

In a perfect world Stafford returns and Baker is signed as the backup. But if the Rams and Baker finish strong I would think he becomes more desirable to a QB needy team. It would drive up the price to re-sign him. Kind of good news bad news I suppose. But its clear Baker is much better than Wolford and Perkins. Would be nice knowing if Stafford goes down the talent level doesn't drop near as much.

LOL. Your sanity not mine? I just get the feeling Stafford is going to call it quits - maybe this year due to injury, perhaps after next year because his wife talks him into it - who knows? Either way he doesn't seem long for the job and if he retires after the season due to concussions/back, we wouldn't be in cap hell since a lot of his money would come off the books. If he retires because he feels like it, we are on the hook for huge cap hit. I could be wrong but that's the way I understand retirement cap ramifications. And if Baker leaves after this season we are in QB purgatory for God knows how long.

Some talking head on ESPN pointed out that is a two-part deal.

In other words the Rams had to raise their level as well.

And the last two games show the Rams have ZERO quit in them despite all the massive injuries.

I am going to give some credit to The Scouting Department for finding those types of players that refuse to play below their ability despite the odds.

Honestly, we have to pump the brakes. It was impressive as hell but we've seen dudes come in and ball with the element of surprise.

I'm hoping Mayfield finishes strong, and decides to hang around next year as backup with Stafford the starter, and then after next season of Stafford decides to retire, we hand it over to Mayfield.

I'm just not ready to see Stafford done.

I'm optimistic about Mayfield. What he did in 2 days with what he had was something else. Give him a long week to prepare for GB and I think we can be competitive if not flat out win next weekend. Hell, looking at the rest of the schedule, I dont see why we can't win out.

But then again, I can see a scenario where Mayfield could digress. Yet I'll decide to stay positive.

Jefferson Atwell Powell Skowronek are playing their asses off. Even Akers who fumbled is playing hard. This team has not given up and now with a hungry QB and a great coach they may show the league that they can't count the Rams out for next year and years to come. These guys are young and they can play.

If #17 is mature enough to ascertain & feel the current situation in LA at this time with the 3 QB's..... He might seal his future in the NFL in LA with McVay.

Time may be just perfect for #17 in this situation. Like many have stated "It's Early" but it just seems to fit nicely.

Rams will need to clean off some serious cap space in the future & now is not the time for #17 to be greedy & take advantage of the Rams completely UNcertain future QB unit.

I think McVay is #17 best chance to make a comeback in the NFL period.

One element I do know is #17 arm strength is lightyears better than the 2 active QB's we have now.

Baker can make all of the throws. He throws very well on the move and has enough running ability to make plays with his legs. Looks like he is willing to put the work in on studying the game/play calls/defenses. He is very competitive. All traits McVay looks for in a QB.

The Rams need to figure out how to keep him. Stafford's health is in question and there is no answer on the Rams roster. Good QBs are hard to find even with high draft picks which the Rams don't have.

I have always thought Skow would be a very good receiver in this league and he sure stepped up big last night. Van had the kind of game we always knew he could have and Atwell will be a Ram next season and he will be a starter.
Baker didn't even know the names of the players he was throwing to lol. What a great game to watch as a Ram fan.

No doubt @Soul Surfer. One major concern of mine once we were eliminated from playoff contention was whether the Rams had it in them to fight for the rest of the year and not pack it in. Definitely kudos to the scouting department as you mentioned, but the coaching department, and the players themselves as well. Once again, I wasn't taking anything away from our Rams in getting that win last night. that wasn't my intention.
