Just added how many OG & OG/OC's the Rams have on their salary now: 11 (eleven)
Evans MR53 Swing Reserve
Shelton MR53 starter
Skura MR53 starter
Aboushi MR53 Reserve
Brewer IR
Cole Toner PS former starter for played in 14 gms started 4 Texans/Chargers
Kolone PS
Bruss IR
Anchrum IR
Edwards IR
Zac Thomas MR53 reserve/ played in 3 Ram gms
No team in the NFL has more OG/OC's on their Master salary cap roster. A large number of veteran starter IOL'ers are at their disposal if they want any of them back for 2023. Since all of them are Rams, returning any of these UFA OG's will not hurt their Compensatory Awards Selections. This is big thing to remember
Good chance some of these IOL'ers have caught the coach's eye to develop or utilize as a stop-gap OG until Bruss or another youngers gets a clue. With many OG's with many NFL starts at low economy priced salary, the Rams might just pick the best of the bunch & see how it turns out. They have some options
I would not bring back Evans, Aboushi, Kolone or Edwards.
Shelton has RG sewn up one would assume.
Brewer, Toner, Bruss, Anchrum, Thomas to battle for the LG spot. As I said, Id add a FA (maybe) and certainly a draft pick. Depending on how it goes Aboushi could be brought back to the PS.
Skura Im resigning as back up depth across the interior but in particular back up C.
Lets say a FA is signed to play LG.
FA at LG, Shelton at RG. Backups at G being Bruss and Anchrum.
Allen and Skura at C.
By keeping Skura you have a solid vet depth guy with a lot of experience that can play all three interior spots. Most importably C. This really gives the Rams three deep at C with Shelton able to slide over if Allen gets hurt again....however the coaches best decide to cover the position.
The best of Brewer, Toner, Thomas and a draft pick head to the PS. Maybe you keep two interior guys, maybe three. Or maybe the draft pick does well and replaces an Anchrum at back up G on the 53.
You see what Im saying.....time to move on from Evans, Kolone and Edwards in my humble opinion.
The back end competition should be fierce this offseason with the Rams looking under rocks for talent. A guy like Leatherwood, much maligned and run out of Vegas after a year or two....still, guy was rated at a first round talent by most. I saw a handful of his games....solid in some situations and bad in others. Really up and down. I don't know how that works in terms of being a first round pick that is still under his first deal money wise. Really an ideal guy to stash and try to develop on the PS if the money isn't big. If he starts to develop his well of athletic ability he can be moved off the PS to protect him.
Necessity has caused the Rams to bring in guys (Aboushi, Skura, Toner, Ty) with starting experience in the league. I think this is a very valuable thing. Kolone, Anchrum and Jackson were all green as could be. They were thrown to the wolves really.
