It wouldn't be the first time Bean counters "did what is best for the team" and fucked up a company.
There are these very important things that never get entered into the equation when money becomes the most important thing. They are called intangibles. Stafford has all the intangibles that Jimmy G and most other QBs talked about in this thread don't have. Plus the physical ability they don't have. I will be more disappointed with my team if they trade Stafford, then when they traded Dickerson.

The team that trades away the star never gets back enough to make up for the hole that is left. Unless your Jimmy Johnson.

I am hopeful that all this is just two parties negotiating to get the best deal both sides want and will get done so the Rams can focus on what else they need.

I just hope we don't sign A-Rod, whatever may happen. I'd even take Garappolo for a whole season over him...and I'm still a little bitter that we signed Garappolo at the same time AD retired.

But in McSnead, I trust.
I don’t like Rodgers as a person, but he looked good on the field at the end of the season and he knows the offense. I don’t hate the idea of Garapolo but his recent injuries are a concern and Rodgers is still the better of the two players. Plus Rodgers brings a ton of attention with him. I often feel that the Rams are under appreciated by the media.

I am sure a guy like that believes he can make a difference anywhere, but then again, after going through what he did in Detroit for so many years, why go back into a potentially bad situation to end your career?
And if he’s looking at Detroit he could be saying “It could happen anywhere.”

The thing is Detroit recieved multiple high picks when they added their QB. In this instance his new team will be trading away picks.

I can’t imagine the team with the motto “we not me” would bring in Rodgers to be their new QB.

Now going with a less expensive group like: JG, Zack Wilson and maybe a drafted rookie - maybe.

If the Rams end up eating a big cap hit I imagine their QB room will be an affordable bridge option (for example Rodgers would need to come here on the cheap) and a rook behind him and Bennett.

Hoping we end up seeing a Loyal victory lap when Stafford is retained for 2025 but either way I think this will be done by the end of the Combine.

The perfect scenario would be to keep Stafford, draft Kyle McCord, but also keep Jimmy Garoppolo too, however, I would be shocked if a team like the Jets do not sign Garoppolo to be their starter until they find a future QB.

Yeah, Slough, Howard, or McCord, would at least give us some hope of having a developmental QB.

It’s not only that, it’s the entire culture of the NFL. There is not one other example in NFL history where someone of Stafford’s stature was simply traded away for the biggest haul, regardless of that players wishes. It’s literally never happened one time. But the geniuses on this board think that will happen with someone who came into this organization and won a ring immediately. And has outplayed their contract for 3 of the 4 years he’s been here.
Joe Montana??

Yes Garoppolo has the touch of the leprechaun on his brow. So I agree some team will come get him as a bridge option, which means maybe a little more pay than the standard backup role.

Bennett has been in this offense now for long enough to where he should be able to move up to the QB2 role for which he was drafted to compete. So ideally he would be able to provide them with a discount QB2. If he is not ready for that, however, then he's going to be replaced on the roster by a new QB3 who has QB1 upside.

There are quite a few castoff types to choose from here though for McVay, because he should be a preferred landing spot for them. Also there is trade as it pertains to QBs falling out of favor, which this year includes Levis. Now Levis is a bit of a retard in one important metric IMO, which is his persistent tendency to act like a sack is the end of the game, by which he inevitably does stupid shit to avoid said sack. But if McVay can stick him in the offense and browbeat him he could end up with a QB who has all the tools you want. He throws a real nice deep ball, has the arm to stretch it, and is a TE sized athlete who can take yards on the ground when they're there. He also is an idiot with taking hits, but hey if he wasn't an idiot in these ways he would not be available. And maybe he is not but they need to look at those types of options.

You can't be mad at the Rams looking at this logically. If Stafford is asking for a contract so big that we can't even sign other free agents, we'll essentially field the same or worse team due to our lack of cap to add talent. Add that to the fact that Stafford is 37 and probably 2 years at most from retiring or falling off a cliff, that makes it extremely reasonable for the Rams to take the stance they are. If you ask me, it feels like emotion is the biggest obstacle a lot of fans have about him possibly being traded. We all want Stafford back, no question, but the price matters since all teams have to operate with a cap. So getting pissed at bean counters and comparing it to a private company is a little off base to me. The Rams have been one of the best front offices amd have arguably the best coach. I'm going to trust their judgement.

Rodgers would actually be cheap I believe. He's still getting paid by the Jets.

I understand what you are saying, but Levis scares the shit out of me. Gonna be interesting to see what the options will be if the Rams move on from Stafford. At least we have other pieces in place for a QB to come in and be successful though.

They already have a decent roster. Oline and QB are the biggest holes. Throw in Jonah Jackson with Stafford in a trade package.
