Now you are redirecting. Whatever. I disagree with you. Keep talking if you choose.I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm not dancing at all.
No good QB options in the draft? Really? The only opinion on that which matters in regards to our discussion would be the team that holds the #3 overall selection. I can't speak for you, but I don't have access to what the Giants really believe about this draft class. An interest in Stafford could just be an option. They could also be weighing other options as far as moving up for one of these kids for all we know.
A desperate coach who may not get another shot as a head coach? Possibly. But with all the retreads that have been hired over the years and NFL GMs seeing that he was saddled with Daniel Jones, plus how the organization bungled the Barkley situation, I like his chances. Especially, if he can go elsewhere and have the success he had prior.
The GM? Not so much. But he can't make such or any deal without the owner signing off. An owner who knows that the other team in his city didn't pay anything close to what you are suggesting for another aging veteran QB with a better resume. And one who saw how that worked out. And I'm sure he knows the New York Media roasting him daily would make sure he didn't forget it.
This year's draft. Last year's draft. Any draft. While anything in this world besides God sinning is possible, it is highly unlikely that a 37 year old QB looking to sign a big contract is going to net the #3 overall selection in any draft in the salary cap era. Not without some VERY compromising pictures or some other form of blackmail.

My opinion is the rams and stafford arent talking to the media regarding the negotations and every single report on the subject to this point is an opinion. This all may be true, but if we are referring to the same podcast interview, Robinson began the Stafford discussion pointing out that there are differing opinions regarding Stafford and the Rams depending upon who he talks to and then went on to provide what he thinks McVay wants.
Again, he may be correct. But, instead of a clear report it sounded like just an opinion to me.
Dude - I'm retired and I can't even think about keeping up with this....
I would have also accepted the boredom hysteria createsThis thread is disappointing and shows the hysteria boredom creates.
All this speculation. Rogers, Darnold, Cousin's, trade to Giants. Trey Lance, Jimmy G. Who next?
Fuck Rogers, Darnold is a Goff repeat for McVay, Jimmy G, Cousin's, meh big downgrades but cheaper
Rams don't seem to be in any hurry, which makes me think they already know they're going to resign Stafford.
Only 3 of the 10 on serious playoff teams in Love, Goff and Jackson. Burrow could be in that group if he could stay healthy and they built a defense. Herbert likewise if he and Harbs can defeat the San Diego curse.Just for comparison's sake, below is a list of the top 15 QB's in terms of Average Annual Value (AAV) for 2024.
Dak was at the top at 60M, and MS was tied with Daniel Jones at 15th at 40M.
Quite frankly I think MS gave the Rams a discount last year. My "hope" is that MS is looking for a substantial raise but is NOT looking to screw up the Rams' cap by breaking the bank, either.
1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: $60 million (4 years, $240 million)
2 (tie). Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals: $55 million (5 years, $275 million)
2 (tie). Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars: $55 million (5 years, $275 million)
2 (tie). Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers: $55 million (4 years, $220 million)
5. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins: $53.1 million (4 years, $212.4 million)
6. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions: $53 million (4 years, $212 million)
7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: $52.5 million (5 years, $262.5 million)
8. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: $52 million (5 years, $260 million)
9. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: $51 million (5 years, $255 million)
10. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals: $46.1 million (5 years, $230.5 million)
11. Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns: $46 million (5 years, $230 million)
12 (tie). Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: $45 million (10 years, $450 million)
12 (tie). Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons: $45 million (4 years, $180 million)
14. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: $43 million (6 years, $258 million)
15 (tie). Daniel Jones, New York Giants: $40 million (4 years, $160 million)
15 (tie). Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams: $40 million (4 years, $160 million)

I don't see how you at least don't pay him north of Tua's average (and that's taking into account that the cap is going up).Just for comparison's sake, below is a list of the top 15 QB's in terms of Average Annual Value (AAV) for 2024.

Hurts? Did you miss Hurts or did I miss something?Only 3 of the 10 on serious playoff teams in Love, Goff and Jackson. Burrow could be in that group if he could stay healthy and they built a defense. Herbert likewise if he and Harbs can defeat the San Diego curse.
A team has to find that happy balance with paying their most important position and building a team. I and a few others have mentioned before that if the Rams get to be truly successful we'll see more of our draft picks leave the team for bigger paydays on the 2nd contract though we have to keep drafting well not like the 2021 draft.
From my POV, I don't quite understand the hand-wringing over this. Yeah, the negotiations might get dragged out longer than McVay would prefer, but both sides clearly want to get it done.
Here's some reassuring quotes from McVay from an Athletic article back on Jan. 23:
“I think sooner than later being able to get that clarity, understanding, clear, open and honest communication. I think there’s a lot of love coming from our part (and) I think there’s a lot of appreciation coming from his part as well. I think a lot sooner than later is an ideal scenario. … Matthew and I have obviously talked. He knows how important he is to me and to our football team. I thought it was a great dialogue....
I know he’s playing really good football. Obviously I love him, love working with him. What he has meant to our football team has been immeasurable in a positive way. …
“The quarterback is always the first thing in mind as it relates to how you move forward with the team. I think he’s playing really good football. Like I said, when we get back (in the office) we will talk about all of those types of things. But I’m sure proud of the body of work, really proud of how he’s played. I think the coolest thing you can say about Matthew is that he shines the brightest on the biggest stages. (When) you look at the seven playoff games he’s played in since he’s been a Ram, he certainly gives you a chance every time you step out on the field. For that I am sure appreciative.”
So from my POV, it's beyond obvious that McVay is VERY motivated to bring Stafford back.
As for Stafford's desire to come back with the Rams, maybe some other poster can help me out (with quotes of positivity from MS) but from what I've seen MS has given multiple indications that his first choice is to remain in LA.
A Stafford quote from the same article:
"Obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don’t know what that is gonna look like.”
Just reading between the lines, I get the sense that MS wants to stay here for at least another year or two, he just wants to be "respected" with a salary that is higher than his 2024 salary of $40 M, which was only 15th in highest Average Annual Value for NFL QB's, and tied with Daniel Jones. Frankly I think Stafford's position is reasonable.
So, yeah, eventually the agents will work it out and MS will stay. He'll get a higher AAV than 40M, but he'll get lower than Dak's ridiculous 60M. The question of course is how and where to meet somewhere in the middle. MS and McVay both want to stay in this marriage, and I don't think either side is dumb enough to let haggling lead to divorce.
No but I missed him on the list.Hurts? Did you miss Hurts or did I miss something?
It's the offseason and this is a huge issue... I mean, what are we supposed to discuss... helmet history? Cm'on.This thread is disappointing and shows the hysteria boredom creates.
