Hear me put, Im just spit balling so don't shoot me just for saying it.....I wonder if the Rams are somewhat considering the possibility of trading Stafford if he wants too much money so they can have a shot at Arch Manning or some other QB from that draft class? Not saying they won't try to get a QB now or that they shouldn't do everything in their power to re-sign Stafford which is what myself and everyone here wants by the way.

This is shaping up to be one of those standoffs from the looks of it. Stafford saying he's still got it. McVay wanting clarity right now or soon. Stafford wants more guaranteed to keep playing for this team. Sneed saying they need a break before they start thinking about what this looks like, or something like that. I remember with the Gurley situation his cap hit didn't stop his release. Fact is nobody on this message board has a clue what will happen, but some sure think they do. :laugh2:

Per Spotrac
Gurley's Dead-$ in 2020 was $9.2M.
Gurley's Dead-$ in 2021 was $8.4M.

Per OTC (pre-June release)
Stafford's Dead-$ in 2025 would be $49.3M.
Adjusting for inflation, these numbers are nearly identical....

Better examples would have been Brandin Cooks (2020) and Goff (2021).

Both were over $20M in Dead-$ those seasons.

Personally, I don't think Stafford is going to be an issue or that his situation is going to be a big deal.

I think the post-season press conference comments of McVay and Snead have been blown-out-of-proportion.

I also believe the Rams and Stafford need and want each other; and will work-out something that makes Stafford happy, and reduces his current 2025 cap hit. Unfortunately, I am frequently wrong.

^^^This.

I also don’t see him moving his 4 little blondies and wife. But I think if he was going to, it would be to a contender. What contender or potential contender needs a QB? Of them, would he really want to move the family there?

It doesn’t seem he wants to retire, so…???

After watching those 2 Qbs last night it's obvious we need Stafford but what we really need is a breakaway rb. And a stud qb, like Stafford but with wheels and youth. Sure we might get to the playoffs but how do we do really with an older qb who's not mobile or durable. Yes, he plays through injuries as I'm sure most do, and we couldn't score 20 + points those last games, ( broken ribs ) didn't help, but without lockdown o line or a breakaway Beast of an RB, we wont go far I'm afraid. I Hope we do, but we are only top 8 team which is pretty impressive in this leauge really but not a top 2 team. Go rams.

I keep hearing little things about Stafford retiring. Or that the team may not want him back. My gut feeling is he will play next year. I gotta hear something concrete from him and the team that he's not returning. He's already said he thinks he's got plenty left in the tank. And judging from the eye test, I'd agree with him. The team has to know they won't be a legit Superbowl contender without him.

Couple quick thoughts and comments ...

Those guys are few and far between.

... without lockdown o line or a breakaway Beast of an RB, we wont go far I'm afraid.
Again, there are not a lot of those guys either but I agree that more speed/big-play-abilty at the skill positions would help.

... we are only top 8 team which is pretty impressive in this leauge really but not a top 2 team. Go rams.
I would argue the Rams may be better than a top-8-team. The Rams had the Eagles.

Had the Eagles and only lost in OT with the fully healthy Lions (while we were not fully healthy). Not to mention, we beat the other AFC Champion contender. I'd suggest top 4

If I'm Stafford I am more irritated with the way the OL starts every fucking season, which is in complete disarray, than I am about a few more million guaranteed. Because the way I see it he has an opportunity in this offense to string wins and stats together to boost his Hall of Fame equation.

So as far as the money's concerned the Rams will probably take care of him. Because he's the best option for them by far. Stan will support Sean & Les, if they tell him they need 9 then it should get done.

But the concern is this goes back to last offseason. Why is it a concern now. That in itself worries the shit out of me.

Well the nice thing is Les can guarantee $50 M with a new contract and still take the same Cap hit within $1-2M this year. Guarantee next year and put a team option in for a third year.

Get errr done!

Sorry man but I am not understanding the math.

The Rams currently have a $49.7M cap hit for Stafford in 2025 but Stafford is not making $49.7M in 2025.

Eh,

It's not like we didn't just win a SB 4 seasons ago. Stafford has never been mobile, and we had arguably a worse RB situation when we won the SB. I think ways of winning in the NFL has shifted but I don't think it's the only way to win a SB. I agree I do want the Rams to find a QB eventually that can run and pass but be careful what you wish for. Not everyone is built like Mahomes or Allen.

True, but it's essentially a year to year deal and was structured that way. Something has got to give whether its a restructure or not. Why else would McVay want clarity then?
Stafford wanted guaranteed money, and they are expecting a similar conversation.
But he’s under contract for 2 more years, not year to year. the Rams dont have to sign him or change his deal.
