I hope your are right, because if that is so, then I wouldn't expect a trade. There is taking care of your player and getting less on the trade market to do it when you want to dump cap cause you think your window is closing. Which is what we have been used to. And then there is giving away a franchise QB. Teams have given up 3 1st round picks for a player that has never played on the hope he will become even half of what Stafford is. Yes, he is near the end of his career, but to instantly be a SB contender in your fanbases mind?
I don't expect a trade either. But if we do trade him it would be a major shock if we got a 1st. And that trade likely costs somebody their job unless it's the Raiders since Brady is the one pushing it.

If I'm the Rams, I play hardball and don't let him go without a first. It can include a pick swap this year (e.g., the Rai-duhs 1-6 for our 1-26) or a 1st rounder next year (with other draft capital this year), but I think the Rams should draw a very hard line with regard to that. They already stated that a 1st would be the asking price. They already have Stafford under contract and are under no obligation to let him go without the right price.
If the Rams trade Stafford to the Raiders, it will be like handing over the LA market right back to them. It would increase the stupidity of the trade by 10 fold

Probably stating the obvious, but we should know by this weekend what the deal is... staying or going. And maybe we find out if it's starting to get contentious if this is still lingering by Sunday night.
Jives with some tweets I've seen this morning.

This is all so damn stupid. It's like the Rams feel like they have to create drama every year since they moved back to LA. Must be a "Hollywood" thing. Regardless, absolutely nothing good can come from any of this bullshit.

I honestly don't think I care at this point. I also don't think the Rams are a SB WITH Stafford next season, and I believe the weather was the main reason they were able to make that Eagles game so close. The Eagles are just a far better team IMO.

Wake me up in September...
Awful take. The weather HELPED Philly.

If that game is in SoFi we win going away. Yes I know they beat us there this year but was not the same team.

If you dont think we can beat the Eagles next year, your choice, but I'm all IN On this team as a Super Bowl Team next year.

Have some faith!

I'll say this - whether he stays or goes, we really need to do what we can to get another QB in house that can be developed for the future, and pronto.

Imagine the pain McVay will have if Stafford goes to Raiders and Bowers and him bond like Kupp and Megatron did. He really wanted that guy lol.

Also, if we do trade him, I kinda hope we go with the hell bent team. Man that 3rd pick would be nice. I'm probably dreaming on that though.

Yeah, I am guessing one of our first 2 picks, regardless where they are picking and regardless of whether Stafford stays, will be a reach for a QB.

Dart
Slough
McCord
Howard
Ewer

One of the above will likley be a Ram. Take a swing this year and if needed another next year.

My initials thoughts immediately after our playoff loss to the Eagles was that this team is close to being a SB contender and they just needed a few more pieces. I'm wondering now if the Rams agree with you that they are not super close to being a strong SB contender, even with Stafford.

The offense was subpar last year and it's trending down given that several of the critical pieces are aging. Let's consider each position.

QB - Stafford isn't getting better. If anything there is risk he could get worse since he's 37.
WR - They're losing Kupp so right of the bat, this room is worse than last year.
RB - The same.
TE - Higbee is the critical component and at 32, he's trending down. No one else in this room warrants excitement.
OL - Assuming they bring Alaric back, the other OT, Hav is aging and some feel is declining. The interior OL could be trending up with Avila and Limmer improvements, but that remains to be seen. This unit overall is likely the same with decline at RT and improvement in the interior.

To be a strong SB contender, they'll need substantial improvement in the offense which will require an injection of talent either through free agency or premium draft picks (#26, #90, and #100). They also need, at minimum, one more major piece on the defense - either CB or ILB.

If they're unwilling to spend money in free agency because they need to save it for up and coming 2nd contracts, I can see a conclusion that the one 1st round pick isn't enough to infuse the offense with sufficient talent and get the big piece the defense needs.

If we're talking trade with Raiders, I'd at least inquire about Mayer along with picks.
Here are some decent parameters of a Raiders trade. Let's assume that Stafford is worth pick #13.

Rams give: Stafford and #26 (1850 points on the trade chart)
Raiders give: #6, #73, and Mayer (1825 points + Mayer's value)

We see things very similarly.... Apparently that objectivity upsets some on here. Oh well.

Your opinion may vary, haha. That's fine with me. It's not like I don't want the Rams to win every game they play, I just didn't see anything approaching a consistent offense last year... Or really since 2021. Cheers.:clinkingbeer:
