Two seconds is first round value, don't get hung up on a 1st round pick. Two seconds is a great deal for us and a lot higher than we likely should get.
A 1st round pick in the 18-20 range would be one thing, a top 5-10 pick regardless of the QB availability is another. I thought the Pittsburgh pick would have been by far the lowest.
The Giants 2nd rounder is virtually a 1st rounder
I suppose at some point the Rams can say to the Stafford side, "we let you do your due diligence and cant trade him for the comp being offered. So here's our final offer, take it or leave it"

Any chance you could paraphrase what he said? I'm not able to listen but like Orlovsky's takes
1) Eagles are only NFC roster that is clearly better than Rams'.
2) Given that, doesn't think Rams would willingly move on for other available option given the drop-off at QB it would create,
3) Expects them to figure out a deal and Stafford to stay.

McVay also kept emphasizing how that communication can help lessen the blow if things don't workout. I pointed the Goff part out because McVay obviously regrets showing his appreciation to the player and human being Goff was during his time as a Ram prior to trading him. To me, it sure seems like he's doing that for Stafford now. I know it's a painful realization, myself included, for a lot of folks here to even consider there is a strong possibility Stafford is gone but it most definitely is. Unfortunately this is the shitty business side of the NFL which both McVay and Stafford seem to understand. McVay ultimately is saying these decisions are not personal and don't speak to the value to a player as a special human being.
I watched that interview and I disagree with your take as well.

Not nothing, just a lot of angst

I put up with Roger Clemens on the Yankees. You can deal with Rodgers on the Rams

And there it is. Stafford can do more to save Shoen’s and Daboll’s job than 7 draft picks. Now the Rams need to play hard ball and get them to trade the Rams what they want. How much is their jobs worth to them?

I’d push for a second this year and first next year, otherwise the Rams would be happy to keep Stafford.
No mater the take, it will be a mistake. Just call me Johnny.

Any chance you could paraphrase what he said? I'm not able to listen but like Orlovsky's takes
Basically, what I said to you the other day in a PM.
... the Rams are set-up and capable of winning a Lombardi Right Now ... WITH Matthew at Quarterback
... without Stafford ... No
... and it's tough to get to that position ... so, both parties should want and be able to work it out

Specifically, Orlovsky said only the Eagles are 'definitively better roster wise' at this point.
He qoted Darius Slay saying the Eagles 'thought the Rams were the closest team to being able to beat them'

Orlovsky mentioned the other QB options (Garoppolo, Rodgers and Darnold), suggesting they were not comparable; and, the Rams would be 'a lesser team'. He doesn't believe the Rams 'who are that close to being a real Super Bowl contender' would be inclined to move-on.

Orlovsky conceeded the trade talks were likely real, and there are teams interested.
He finished-up saying I don't think the Rams are saying 'as close as we are, we are going to move-off of him'

Dan Orlovsky seemed Exasperated and Confused by this situation. Emotions I share.

After watching the podcast, I believe what McVay is saying. They are all just doing their due diligence and no decision has been made. Although they all want Stafford back.
The acknowledgment of Stafford's skill tells me that no mater what some team will pay him, The Rams are going to have to be knocked off their feet with compensation before a trade happens.

For a top 5 QB? all their picks isn't enough.
I get the fan perspective, but in reality as good as he is, he is 37 years old. I dont know if he has 2 more years in him. I saw QB's like Peyton Manning + Brett Favre fall off a cliff in performance
There is only 1 Brady, definitely the exception and not the rule

I should add ... I have lived a long time, am rarely shocked, seen some weird things that I don't understand, agree with or even explain. So anything is possible.

Auctions for high value items usually start with an opening bid and/or have a reserve price. If we can't hold onto Stafford, an auction is what Snead wants.

The rumors are the Rams want a first round draft pick, so that is probably the unspoken opening bid requirement. You can also get to first round value with a package of solid 2nd and 3rd rounders. If the Rams can't come to terms with Stafford, then they want two or more teams who can meet the "reserve price" to start bidding on the rights to his contract.

How likely is that? I'm going to approach this like I'm playing Clue.

The teams with the most draft capital (in order) are CLE, JAX, LV, TN, NE, SF, NYG, CAR, NO, CHI, NYJ and MIA.

How many obviously QB-needy teams are in that group?

CLE, LV, TN, NYG, NYJ & NO

How many of these teams have significant cap space?

Only LV and TN.

Would either attract Stafford? Maybe LV.

It all depends on how desperate a team is. I think the Giants situation is dire. Not only are Shoen and Daboll looking at likely being fired, they also have to make up for past egregious decisions:

1. Paying Daniel Jones
2. Not drafting any QBs in the last draft
3. Not signing Saquon, and having him end up with the Eagles.

Oakland already showed interest.

He is, and thats the problem! He should not be Fullbacking the entire game and ignored while he has energy. Then passed to after blocking the entire game and exausted. Games Kupp is not targeted 5 or more times, we fail to Score 20 points 90 % of those games! He would be a WR1 on 90% of other teams. Games when Puka and Kupp are evenish in targets for the game ,we score 20+ points almost every time. He would have been right on pace for another 900 Yard season or 1000 if not ignored for 5 games.
god bless

Trading the 3rd pick in the draft and paying a 37 y/o QB 50+ mill is a sure fire way to get fired
I think the Rams might be able to pull that off if they include their 1st rounder
