I was going to wait to get to the end of this thread before I commented again but DAMN, I just can’t get there.
After 24 hours of simmering, I’m starting to see most of the dynamics of this trade and why it happened now and why the price was what it ended up being.
1. Goff wasn’t progressing enough for the Rams
2. McVay was frustrated. Goff was frustrate.
3. Goff wouldn’t restructure his deal. This pissed Snead and company off.
4. Stafford was frustrated in Detroit and wanted to be traded
5 McVay likes Stafford’s tools
6 Stafford likes the team the Rams have right now and is intrigued with McVay’s Offense.
7 Rams had to make a move on Stafford quickly even if it made sense to roll with Goff in 2021.
8. Washington wanted Stafford and bid the price up.
9. Goff‘s contract limited any other deals.
10. SF wanted Stafford. The Ram’s hand was forced NOW!
11. Detroit was surely going to get at least a 1st and 3rd this year for Stafford and they would have had to use those to draft a viable QB this year. It was a much better deal to get Goff, even if not a long term answer, to get them thru a couple of years rebuild. They now have draft capital to draft a QB in the next couple of years and use the draft this year to fill holes.
12. The Rams probably already know that Stafford will sign a team friendly extension that restructures for future compensation to ease the cap this year. Then, they can attempt to keep most of this D intact for a couple more years.
13. The Rams and us are now hoping we can now catch lightning in a bottle in 2021!
GO RAMS!
