I'm totally in on Stafford. Rams will have the #1 Offense and #1 Defense next year!

Stafford is going from hell to heaven!

Also...good job tonight @MachS (and a few others). I support everyone of your posts in this thread!
MachS has been the man. Was gettin' tired of giving him so many "thread winner" emojis!
Btw I totally agree with your sentiments on Mr. Stafford becoming a Ram.

It's a done deal folks. Let's be frank about this though. When the Rams made the move to get Goff...it was a "head scratcher". I didn't like it.

After Goff's first year, McVay came in and Goff made great improvement but beginning last year, he seemed to fall back. We all saw it. I...for one, gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited for this year and to me, it was eveident Goff and McVay had a different relationship. I'm not sure what the problem was...but there's definitely a problem.

I don't know how I feel about this. Could Matthew Stafford be an upgrade? It's possible...beacuse we know Detroit just couldn't seem to get good WR talent. Stafford has mobility...but where is he after 12 years? We'll see.

i don't understand why you're acting like such a spoilt brat about it.

you said exactly the same thing we said, snead paid way too much.

.
A spoiled brat?

The same thing 'we' as in the folks the last 2 years that chastised anybody that said other than Goff is elite, a HOF'r, and have to go after any criticism towards him regardless if it's fair or not? No, very good to see their flawed biased views confirmed by ownership and management that they literally have ZERO idea what they are talking about and bully others that don't support their ideologies.

It's vindication at the highest of being told otherwise for years.

These articals are nice , but Goff also lost to the 0-14 Jets

So did our vaunted defense. Our D made Sam Darnold look good - he was 22/31 for 207 yards and a TD with an ESPN QBR of 88.6 (that’s 88.6 out of a max 100), Our D also gave up legitimate clock-chewing sustained scoring-drives to the Jets resulting in 2 TD’s (a TD drive on the Jets first possession of the game, and another to start the 2nd half) and a FG right after we scored a TD in the 2nd half that was purely on them - no turnover or short field to blame.

There were games where you could reasonably argue that Goff was the main reason the the loss - but the Jets game wasn’t one of them. Goff didn’t play well, but that one was a team loss.

Well, I've backed away from the ledge finally. I went ahead and thought back to a few moments this season where I really thought Goff just wasn't the guy. Kinda glad we moved on tbh, but damn if it doesn't feel like putting down a favorite dog. I think the reason there is so much pain with this is because in just two seasons since a SB appearance the foundational pieces that we loved and thought would be here for a long time are just..poof...gone.

Now, screw the pain. Stafford is a good to very good QB. Let's not kid ourselves and say that isn't an upgrade RIGHT NOW. I'm not talking about developmental potential or anything like that. Just RIGHT NOW. If there is one thing for certain in the NFL it's that if your SB window is open you can be ready for it to shut fast. Players age, contracts end, and things just happen. Could we really afford to let the 30 year old AD wait for Goff to finally progress instead of regress. 2 years of waiting didn't see that come to fruition, why would one more do the trick? I believe this move was all about this window with Ramsey and AD. Maybe, just maybe this trade is a good thing for the SB window we are watching decay infront of our eyes.

As always I'm all aboard the Rams train and now I'm all aboard the Stafford train...choo a fucking choo..lets gooo!
RamsfanCK,
Appreciate your logical and rational analysis of the situation. Gotta admit I was thinking much like you when I first read about the trade, but now I am on board and ready to go to the Super Bowl in '21
Go Rams!

Career Passer Rating:

Goff : 91.1

Stafford : 89.9
Goff for his career has been a dink and dunk passer Stafford hasn’t been
We could go back and forth all day on this. But Goff is 36-0 with a lead past halftime with McVay and I don't think he had many leads at halftime with Fisher either.

I wonder what Staffords record is with a lead at halftime. I am actually curious about that stat.

Maybe his overall record sucks because he has been on such crappy teams.

Again I am only going by what my friend at work says about him and the fact that he is 33 and has a bad back.

And he has said some really bad things about Stafford in the past,

I really need to watch games with Stafford on the All 22 to garner my own opinion but I just do not have time right now.

Also, that bad back freaks me out. One bad hit - and where are we.

No firsts for two more years and Wolford at QB. I like Wolford as a backup but he isn't starting material caliber.
lol you can’t sit back and put that record only on Goff. McVay Gurley special teams and defense owe much more to that than just Goff. Tbh how many games can we actually say that Goff was the difference maybe 4-5 games. That offense was Gurley’s when he left and he got injured everything dropped red zone offense. Offense efficiency Goffs passer rating all I’m saying is that more often then not Goff was really just a Jag and you need more than that from a guy who was making the same as Aaron Rodgers

There's no question. He is better than Goff of 2019 and 2020. This move means the Rams don't have to tie their fortunes to him getting his shit together. Ain't nobody got time for that. Not when this league will chew you up and spit you out even McVay's goldenboy aura took a huge hit the past couple years.

Many of us would have kept Goff and as fans that's fine. But if you're the GM you gotta stack a team that the coach knows he can win with if you want to contend year to year. And when your rockstar coach tells you he's done with said QB you make the move.

So much unnecessary wailing and gnashing of teeth in this thread. IMO. I get it too btw. But Goff timed out here, he carries a ton of the blame for how things went down due to his play, and it's not the first time a QB needs to go prove himself elsewhere.

And yet Goff has a 7.5 y/a in his career and Stafford a 7.2 in his career with several years of the best WR in the last 20 years. We don't need to shit on any former players anymore we get it he was hated.

It's also not the first time the offensive minded head coach put his support behind a QB and failed to develop him. Hell it's the third time in two years this coach signed an offensive player to a huge contract and then failed all three of those players.

GM Les Snead in 2015 traded 2 Firsts, 1 Second & 2 Thirds to get Goff.

In 2021 Snead traded 2 first rd picks & a third-round pick to get rid of him & that oversized contract he gave Goff.

Total= 4 First Round Selections, 1 Second round, and 3 Third rounders.
I've been concerned about the money squandered with the Gurley deal, assets given up for Cooks, Floyd and now Goff.
I'm not thrilled with the way Snead so readily gives up the house in these deals.
Still, the day after the initial shock of the trade, I'm optimistic that Stafford will jump start this offense that had become somewhat stagnant, and lacking a real identity with a leader at Q who is capable of seeing the defense and reacting quicker to it. There will likely be fewer turn overs from this position as well.
Unfortunately, these things are not a Goff trait anymore. Best of luck to him.
