Cmon Matt , call your buddy Calvin and see if he’s ready to come out of retirement. Still only 35

That would blow my freaking mind. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell it happens, but after 2020, I need to stop saying things can't happen.

I just said Stafford to the Rams couldn't happen... so, yeah...

Maybe? I guess...

Interesting Rodrigue comment in Athletic Article

McVay’s decision to speak critically in public about Goff for the first time wasn’t just a sign of things to come, but also seemed to serve as a message to his locker room, where some frustration rippled during the latter half of the season — the message being that an underperforming player would not be coddled, regardless of that player’s status."

I asked her what she meant by this "frustration" and what it was based upon.

Does it not seem odd that the locker room was pretty muted in its support of Goff. Sure there were some comments that the players were fired up to see Goff take the field with his thumb after Wolford went down but I wonder if this is McVay sensing frustration within his team about Goff's play. I mean his comments and behavior don't make a lot of sense for someone who is so calculating but frustration within the locker room could shed some light on this.

A lot of normally sensible people with some pretty big overreactions today.

Goff wasnt the answer, so we move on. Stafford may or may not be the answer, that still is to be determined - but give the guy a fucking chance.

Yeah, I remember a young lad that felt that way in 1973, the Los Angeles Rams had traded the God Roman Gabriel to Philadelphia and had acquired the portly, balding John Hadle from San Diego, as a seven year old, I was crushed and I actually had a castoff jersey (all you can get back then) with number 18 on it.

I was convinced there was no way I could root for the Rams with a bald Quarterback and didn't even know who the new Head Coach was and then they won their first six games plus won the NFC West with a 12-2 record and I was just fine.
I was 9 when that happened. I was able to get over it since I was a kid.

I don't know - I am too old and grumpy to get over things like this now.

My brother stopped being a Dodger fan when they traded Piazza.

This one kinda feels just like that.

It's the fricken draft picks that put me over the edge.

I could have possibly handled a one for one trade with maybe the Rams getting an additional 4th or something. I would still have been pissed because I do not see Stafford as an upgrade especially at his age.

But giving up two firsts and a third as well - that has blown me over the edge.

Not much better - the only reason Goff had more time was due to the roll outs which increased his time by at least a few ticks.

And as I have stated before - when Goff did have more than 2 seconds - he usually completed a good pass.

His turnovers came when he had less than 2 seconds.

How is Stafford going to do with less than 2 seconds on those same exact plays is my question.

Stafford has a pretty good rating when pressured, so I'd say pretty good

If Detroit made the deal and they did they believe they can right Goff. If we nmade the deal and we did it doesn't make sense that the 2 firsts were'nt added to at least partially relieve the stress on our cap space. Wait for the final numbers and tangential gains.
I in no way think it was Goff and 2 firsts = Matt but we will have to wait for the official outcome

Wasn't Piazza the best player for the Dodgers back then? So really a better comparison would be if we traded AD

I won't be calming down anytime soon.

I posted that I would be pissed if the Rams didn't get Watson and I am.

Plus two firsts and a third - this is just beyond incomprehensible

I hear you.

Please consider that Caserio may have informed that the Rams that either a) Watson would NOT be traded... which means a showdown and prolonged antipathy between player and organization or b) that the price was so high that even Snead wouldn't pull the trigger. Also c) from the exploratory calls Snead got from teams for Goff, they may not have offered much or insisted the Rams take on even more salary which would never be acceptable.

True, McVay may have only wanted Stafford and disagree with that all you like.

BUT... I would posit that it's possible the Rams did try for Watson and were quick to find out that it would be untenable and moved to Plan B ASAP.

Also, as we're finding out... the price while steep is in line with the market. Brad Holmes did us a solid taking Goff's guarantees which puts us in much better shape in 2022. Some of the picks were for that.

Ultimately if we win the Super Bowl, it will have been worth it.

All we can do is watch this season and hope.

Our offense is gonna be much better. But two first for an aging QB? Idk bout that. 32 years old...

Two late firsts or a top ten pick? Which is worth more? I'd take the top ten that Washington offered personally. The Rams did what it took.

Hey does Wolford give up his number or does Saffold take a different number wanting to put the past behind him?

Problem is Stafford broke bones in his back last season, missed 8 games. You gave up resources that will make it tough to find a good young QB in the next few yrs.

If Stafford can stay healthy for 3- 4 yrs, its a good deal. If he gets banged up next yr again then we are in QB hell.

Thankfully, we have the best sports med/rehab/sports science department in the entire NFL.

I'll admit my initial dislike for this trade is based on emotion rather than logic.. but it feels just like it did when we pushed Warner out the door. I'm not saying Goff is in the same league as Warner, but I think it was too early to give up on Goff as well.

Hopefully we address center in some fashion because Blythe ain't it.

One thing is for certain, tho: the result of this trade will define this regime.

That's the thing - I don't see how our CAP is helped by this trade at all.

We could have gotten rid of Goff after 2021 if we wanted to save CAP space.

This year is a wash with this trade from everything that I am reading.

Stafford has been banged up and is over 30. That said, I can see him making hay

I am stunned but am willing to see how this plays out. He needs to deliver SB wins or else this trade was a huge waste. So the bar has been set high

Two important aspects:

This finally puts to bed the Goff v Wentz debate. We could have had Wentz at a fraction of the price but were not interested

What the hell does this do in terms of our impeding defensive FAs?

What? Wentz is maybe a backup in Philly now and has been injured a lot. Goff was absolutely the right choice.

We can't know about our FA situation until the 2021 cap is released
