Until the Rams rework Stafford's contract, they have $20 million on the books for Stafford and $22 million on the books for Goff. It's a net loss of about $8 million. Spotrac isn't correct. We have to eat Goff's dead money. Detroit cannot take it in a trade.

@jrry

Brother this is about winning the SB in the next 2 seasons while Donald and Ramsey are in their prime.

Who cares about Sporttrac and over the cap and all that crap.

If the Rams are holding up the Lombardi in the next 2 seasons, I could give a rats ass about the cap.

And how are t hey going to get there? They've got no cap space, they're drowning in dead money, they're barely going to be able to resign half of their own players, let alone free agents. They have no draft capital. And they need 4 offensive linemen, 2 inside linebackers, an outside linebacker, probably a safety, a stretch receiver that can stay healthy, all new tight ends, and a complementary running back.

Sorry Merlin, I meant to say where we were money wise, which I know read is actual 7 million more.

Talent wise we are in a big gain! I wasn't on board with Stafford as the guy because I thought McVay wanted a mobile QB and it didn't make sense. I was done with Goff in the superbowl loss.
Yeh now I feel like an overbearing ass. Which happens a lot. Cheers man. :beer2:

The lions have a better OL.

Pro bowl center, pro bowl tackle, lots of depth.

Stop. C'mon. The Lions surrendered 38 sacks and had a worse run game than we did. I could dig into the more advanced stats but most of our members seem to belittle them so I won't waste my time. I'd be surprised if Detroit's OL did anything better than ours last year.

They don't make this trade if they don't believe they can win the whole tamale in the next 2 years. They have a plan I stand by it.

I honestly think the two QB's are a wash. What pisses me off is the two 1st's we gave up. I'm having a hard time of making sense of the bottom line impact of the cap. I know we both eat dead money.

Stafford in my book is capable of being a serviceable QB, but not unless we upgrade the Oline. So unless we got a lot of money freed up in 2021 how in the hell are we going to improve our situation.

Ill give Mcvay a chance to plug the Oline, but if he thinks he's going to improve the offense with Stafford and this same Oline play he is one step out the door and about to learn a real hard lesson that many geniuses before him had to learn.

I guarantee you Goff got tired of the BS and told Sean his system is shit without blocking and innovating.

Mcvay couldn't handle the truth and recruited his buddy Les to disprove Goff's theory. We will see now.

Stafford aint doing shit behind this Oline, you can take that to the bank.

It is fascinating reading posts from the negative minded fans and the positive side. I am in the middle, but I am a big fan of teams looking at the history of 1st round picks and saying, "Balls!"

How many of those 32 teams each year suck badly and have had multiple 1st rounders? Look at Cleveland, they have burned through soooo many 1st rounders and were one of the worst teams for decades.

The Rams during our decades of pain had multiple 1st rounders over the years and we still sucked.

You’re right. Let’s just write off the next two seasons because getting to the Super Bowl under those circumstances is impossible.

The defense allowed an average of 19.3 ppg in the 2018 playoffs....

There are games to criticise Goff on, but the SB is really not it.

Pass
Pass
Cooks is not the first read there, he's a clear out route, but IMO that was a catchable ball. Maybe Stafford looks to Cooks first, but that wasn't the game plan.

Actually, he'll miss 9 games with injury behind this line.

Or, if he doesn't, along with his 35 TD's will be 27 interceptions.

Nice optimism! Sorry you have to sell your Goff jersey now. Fact is we got a more talented QB. Do yourself a favor, go pull up some Stafford film and acquaint yourself.

2020 Goff vs Stafford: More yards (Stafford), more TDs (Stafford), less INTs (Stafford), higher QBR (Stafford), higher qb rating (Stafford).
All that yet Goff had the better supporting cast, better coach, top 10 running game, and the #1 defense.

The more I look at this comparison the further the gap becomes.

That's a gross exaggeration.

they need an upgrade at Center. Agree on the ILBs, but that may not happen. We may not add anyone at OLB this time and rely on draft picks and Hollins.

Folks forgetting how good Rapp is that we can absorb the hit at safety.

We have the TEs we need. Hendo is plenty good enough as the comp RB.

I've always like Van Jefferson and thinks he steps it up this season.

We do have needs, but it's not as dire as all that...

The Rams have ZERO dead cap money due to Goff now.

I see what you and other posters are looking at on Spotrac, which shows Detroit carrying the $22M of Dead-$ for Goff.

Unfortunately, I believe Spotrac is wrong, and will correct its site.

The Rams will have the $22M of Dead-$ for 2021. That's $ already paid. Detroit can not 'assume' the cap hit for $ already paid.

The $43M of guaranteed-$ that the Lions assumed is future salary and bonuses that have yet to be paid but are guaranteed. The Rams essentially gave-up additional draft pick compensation to get the future cap relief (2022 and 2023). That's the Osweiler element.

No ego here. I am all about the Rams and will be thrilled if I am wrong. Just don't think I am.

Detroit's OL is better than you think, but they're not better than the LAR OL at full strength. Of course, they have picks and an offseason to try and fix that. Judging it on sacks is a little unfair. Stafford takes some unnecessary sacks, whereas Goff tends to force some stupid passes to avoid sacks.

Well the cap is going to stand in the way of hoisting that Lombardi. Goff's flaws were full on display but its crazy to think that he alone is the reason the Rams didnt make it to the Big Game. And without that cap space they desperately need, they will lose some guys who contributed, and wont be able to replace come who didnt
