I had this thought earlier... what would you do if I gave you a magical button that could do exactly one of two things:

1 - Go back to 2010 and make it so Sam Bradford never gets injured (knee, ankle, nothin' - no injuries)
2 - Go back to 2010 and make it so the Rams draft someone else (Suh, McCoy, whatever)

Which would you do?

Thats an easy one.
A top level QB talent is always more valuable than any other position on the field whether that player is a top talent at their position or not.
 
Well, playing devil's advocate, you know Suh and McCoy become forces with the benefit of hindsight. If you have a perma-healthy Bradford, he still needs to develop and get pieces around him, so...

Y'know... devil's advocate.
 
While I'm tempted to go for magically healthy Bradford - and I think he has the talent to be special - I think he was messed up a bit by being surrounded by so little talent. I would have wanted to trade him for multiple picks, fix the OL, sign a vet if Bulger couldn't go another year or two with actual protection, and use the picks to start upgrading the worst depth in the NFL, possibly the worst non-expansion team depth ever. Keep in mind that a magically healthy Bradford doesn't have the ankle problems his second season, likely improving the team enough that they don't get the RG3 picks to rebuild the team, so the Rams would have a healthy Bradford and a ton of holes still. Without Bradford and plus picks, they could fill holes and have more cap room to sign other players. QBs are the most important players, but that doesn't mean they're more important than having an actual team around them.

If a trade isn't allowed though, I'd rather have Bradford than Suh still taking up all the cap room, and no depth around him.

No trades! But I agree... also didn't consider the additional wins in 2011 that could have left us out of the RGIII bonanza.
 
I picked #2.

I didn't like picking Bradford when they did... for one big reason:
They had way too many holes on that offense for him to begin a good career.

The cards were stacked against him from the get-go. And, they knew it... that's why Shurmur had him dinking and dunking all over the place (much to the fans dismay).

Once they did pick him, my hope was that they'd quickly work through free agency and have successful drafts on offense so he could flourish. We know how that worked out. Now he's gone after 4 unfulfilling seasons.

I'd have rather had either McCoy or Suh (I pushed for Suh, but I probably would have regretted that as well because of his dirty play).

I'm on record as a fan of his talent. He figures that out and he's fine.

He just didn't stay healthy here.

Very good question.

I'd probably not draft him if I KNEW that the Browns for sure were offering most of their draft (and something the following year) for the rights to draft Bradford. Coulda signed like Matt Moore or Gratkowski and drafted Earl Thomas or JPP. Or both.

I thought it was a mistake to pick a QB that missed his senior year because of an injury.

I'd rather go back to 2011 and wish that the Browns could have executed the deep snap on the field goal that would have given the Browns the victory thus giving the Rams the number one pick in 2012, in which, they trade Bradford to the Cleveland Browns and then draft Andrew Luck, but that's just me.

Health and not even freaking close. Healthy Bradford is a true franchise QB and there's nobody else in that draft (not even Suh) who comes anywhere near that sort of value.

I'll take hindsight. Rather than picking at 1 though, Id favor trading down to the Brownies for a massive bounty of picks. And, given hindsight you could nail every one too.

Maybe it's been all the alcohol and weed since this happened but WTF? Did the Browns really offer the draft for Bradford? I don't recall this ever coming out!

p.s. I voted health and think healthy Bradford is a top 8 QB easy by now which would translate to be a top 12ish offense more than likely. Sign my ass up with our defense!

Yeah. I remember it clear as day.
I'll have to dig it up, but that was Holmgren's last plea to Devaney. And when Devaney said no, Holmgren said "you made the right call."

Suh doesn't have us knocking on the door of the playoffs in 2010. And a Suh pick would just extend this decade long rebuild process another year or two while we wait for another competent QB to fall in our laps.
 
Health, if Bradford is healthy our last two years are radically better than they were. Even if you believe Bradford is an average QB, that still light years ahead of what Hill and Davis put down.
