If starting from scratch in a new 43 D do members remember the differences of NFL teams finding 43 DE's vs 34 Edge Rushers????

The salary price tags for good starting 43 DE's already playing in the NFL are near upper tier $$$$.

Then.... when you want to get hold of a few of these 43 D DE's in the draft.... all of a sudden encounter that they are extraordinary rare coming out of today's college team defenses in compared to the tweeners 34 DE edge rushers.

........ Of course a few #1 draft picks can get you a few & the Rams are full of first round selections & stand ready to use them.

- Spot on !! I think Mcvay & Snead have talked about before ?? It goes back to the days I began as a draftnik guy !!!
One of the first guys I liked coming out of a draft when In my mind was dialed in.
Jason Taylor is a good example of finding value as a 3/4 that can actually play a 4/3. I still think Robert Quinn fit being a tweeter 4/3 guy ?? Just came from a 4/3 NC.

Mcvay always has talked about being a playmaker, especially when he first took over as HC. They can be an OLB/DE, even a guy like RAMsey. The quote is you can never have to many athletes/playmakers.

the good thing about The Rams is they have found value in the draft. Snead usually
will take a few of the same pieces as well.
I think D” 7 will be the focal point in 2020 draft,as well as another RB.
Is Gurley going to get traded ?? I’d take a 2nd or 3rd pick for him.

Does Joe Barry actually fit Sean's concept of an innovative, scheme adjusting, scheme tweaking mad scientist who will be customizing game plans and in-game adjustments for each opponent on a week by week basis? If not, this is just a curtesy interview for an old friend and nothing more. Why rid yourself of the uber knowledgeable SonOfBum for Joe Barry?

I hope this is a courtesy interview and I'm hoping Barry is the new DC for USC...This would be Larry Marmie Part Deux and if McVay hires Barry as DC, he will look back on that decision with great disdain.

Seriously !!! WTF

well I guess he is a least owed that. Hopefully Mcvay is smart enough to move on from Barry.

One thing I do like about is his fire. He actually might be a better DC than a lber’s coach ?? He has been about we not me.Wade was real square & kept things in a box, Barry maybe good with the changing of time. There is a lot of College influence in the NFL nowadays

If he's going to go in-house, it should be Pleasant all the way. From everything I've heard, he's the guy that thinks most like McVay and would be best suited to implementing the vision of changing up the D for each opponent.

Ian's tweet also appears to indicate Barry requested the meeting with McVay and if he receives Barry doesn't receive an offer from the Rams, he may accept the DC position with USC.

Looks like we'll have several roles to fill as this appears to be an ultimatum to the tune of either you promote me or I walk.

I think the 3-4 is the superior base scheme tbh. Simply because you still get a 4 man front you just don't know which side the fourth guy is coming from. But also because you get a bit more speed in that front seven as well which translates well with more and more passing game focus.

But that said any scheme with the right players will work. And from that personnel perspective changing to a 4-3 is going to make this offseason more difficult.

This is why I'll be surprised if McVay does that. He has a good scheme in place with a lot of pieces for it. Just go get the right guy to run it and keep building the talent level. Should be able to upgrade 5T in this draft, it's just crazy deep on the DL. Get Ramsey signed. Try to find a bargain ILB to beef up the depth at the least be it in the draft or FA.

He's not changing the scheme. He specifically switched from 4-3 to 3-4 when he arrived and spent several offseasons acquiring 3-4 players. Why would he change back, he clearly prefers the 3-4 or why would he have changed in the first place?

I liked Wade but I understand why the time was right to move in a different direction with the stage set for retooling/rebuilding of the front 7.

I actually drank the Kool-Aid and thought the Ram's D had the talent to be a top five Unit but the opening day MVP audition of Christian McCaffrey and the Tampa travesty quickly changed my mind.
To me the 2019 defense was wildly inconsistent and lacked some toughness/nastiness. They could completely stifle some teems but then crap the bed against others with the worst being the Bucs, Ravens, and Cowboys games. There were other bad outings like the first game against Seattle where they let them score on fourth and goal in the fourth QTR to take the lead and the two third and 16 conversions by the whiners in week 16. If they had won either of those games they are still in the playoffs. It seems to me that last year's defense came up clutch in the 4th quarter of the big games but this year's Defense seemed to falter in crunch time and just wilted in games against the Ravens, Bucs, and Cowboys.

I was uncertain about who would be the Rams's CB's for 2020 but the mid-season revamping of the secondary solidified the the unit going into 2020. Although they had some some rough patches, including the SF game, I think the the future is pretty bright with Ramsey, Rapp and return to health of JJ, along with some promising young CB's. I think Weddle & Christian walk so the Rams will have to add some safety depth with special teams value but they can be found in later round or with UDFA's

The Front seven is where the Rams need to focus their attention in the off-season, even above the O-line. With their limited Cap space the Rams could be in for a modest rebuild if they lose Fowler, Brockers, and Littleton to free agency, plus they could also move on from Mathews as well. If that happens they might need to replace 4 new starters in 2020.

Whoever the Rams bring in at DC, he will probably have a lot of input into how the Rams rebuild/retool their front 7.

The SonofBum was here,
but now he's gone.
He left his name to carry on.

Wade, you coached great D,
Except the games where it sucked.
Cheers for your next gig.

In all honesty with your assessment on the draft . Snead usually plans a year out when it comes to the draft & depth.

What a can say about Joe Barry is he is a big influence on The Rams practices. He gets into with Jared Goff which is cool to see. There is a good competitiveness to it.He has been Wade’s right hand guy.
I look at the positive energy level & Joe Barry a piece of it. The Strength Coach is as well. Pleasant is solid & wonder if his role will change at all ??
The Rams need to add coaching. Mcvay has always been about next guy up & we not me. This will at the very least move coach’s up in there ranks ??
We will get more of an idea on Mcvay this offseason than any other. Is he a young genius?? No, but I have always believed he is a solid HC. He wants to create a culture.

Mcvay lost his OC’s his first 2 seasons. This year it is the DC,but by choice.
