Raheem has been reducing Young's snaps. I guess he doesn't feel he needs him. I mean he can always play Ramsey at ILB.
Seriously, Young wasn't likely to be re-signed next year. They have Howard and Jones they can rotate at the position. Maybe Morris is going to adopt Staley's one ILB concept. The ILB position is morphing into something akin to an in-the-box SS. Morris has found success as did Phillips in playing Rapp inside the box. I think more than anything it opens the door for Morris to use Rapp as his coverage ILB role. Young was acquired to fill a role in Wade Phillips 3-4 hybrid scheme as the coverage ILB.
The bottom line is that I don't see any real impact. Young's role began to shift under Staley and continued under Morris. He was more often than not played as an in-the-box SS more than a true ILB. Morris can use Jones on early downs and Rapp in that role on passing downs. Jones would possibly give them better play against the run and Rapp better coverage play on passing downs.
