Could they be trading Rob H and moving Alaric Jackson into his spot or Anchrum?

Not really. They just restructured his deal. If they wanted to trade him without incurring dead money, they'd have traded him before the restructure.

No, I understand that.

I'm saying why cut him at all?

As I posted above, if they want to start Jones ... terrific.
However, keep Young around for depth and insurance in case of injury. They only have 3 ILBs right now; and none on the PS.

So keep him for the remainder of the season and then his contract expires; and he becomes a free agent and signs elsewhere.

Without a corresponding move, it seems like an odd trade.
I agree it does seem odd and the way he started the season one I don't like. It would make more sense if Jones had benefited from the snaps Young lost but he didn't. We saw promise from Jones in preseason and camp so hope he realizes it but in all honesty lately we've all felt the need to improve at ILB. Perhaps this is the move that allows that, only time will tell.

Offensive line has been one of the best in the NFL this season... seems counterintuitive to screw with that to save a few dollars. If we're going to win the Super Bowl it's going to be because Stafford stays clean.

If we do make a trade it may not happen until following the Oct.31 game against Houston, this should lower the CAP cost of the incoming player slightly. Of course, he'll have less time to practice with the team for Tennessee.

If no trade is made, we still have an additional roster spot to fill from our Practice Squad, or another team's that we might raid.

Still, I think Snead will be making an outside move fairly soon.

kenny young and troy reeder are both around the same speed wise - they are both fast for LB... 4.6 40 times.

Neither is great but both have made plays here and there.

My guess is for safety or another ILB. I don't think CB is as big of an issue as some are making it. DW will be back in two weeks and Dante seems to be a pretty good nickle db so far

Trade seems likely.

If not that, maybe they absolutely LOVE Jones and were showcasing young yesterday so that they could trade him and get that some rather than have his cap on the bench. Once he’s benched, his trade value is even less than the little we even got - plus the cap savings. Shrug - That’s all I got on this one.

The restructure of Havenstein yesterday plus this move makes me feel a trade is in the works .
I hope so. However, the Rams' current cap space seems to be around $5M.

That's not enough (without further maneuvering) to take on a big contract.

For example, someone mentioned Myles Jack. I was thinking of him because Urban Meyer is trading away talent for a song. Even young veteran talent. That CJ Henderson trade was ridiculous. Henderson was a top-10 pick just last year! However, Mack (who's currently injured) carries a big contract. Even with the season 40-45% over, I don't know the Rams could afford Jack (without another move or contract restructure).

Heck, I even fantasized for a few moments about Fletcher Cox but then I saw his contract. Yikes!

I am better-off reserving my fantasies for the Off Topic Boobie and Booty threads.

I agree that this will be a trade for a defensive player. I'm thinking CB for sure because of three of the four other contending NFC teams:

Cardinals - Hopkins/Kirk/Green (destroyed third CB)
Cowboys - Cooper/Gallup/Lamb (destroyed third CB in training camp)
Bucs - Evans/Godwin/Brown - Brown was out and he's been their best WR thus far

Sure, David Long was involved in those - but I don't feel great about Rochel covering Evans/Godwin/Brown - so a trade here seems prudent given who we will be playing in the playoffs.

There have been rumors in Jacksonville Myles Jack will be traded
Not sure this makes sense $$$ wise, but he's been my favorite UCLA player since Wendell Tyler! Love to have him on the Rams.

McVay said don't expect a splash trade but will monitor things and if something comes up they'll look into it.

McVay and Snead have a history of saying what's gonna happen or hinting at a move. Sounds like nothing big but bargain hunting for some help. I would not be surprised if they stand pat or at most pick up someone for secondary with ST experience.

Jones gets more snaps, Rapp gets more reps in hybrid LB/S role. Scott plays backend more. Hughes gets more snaps there too. Prob about it.

Good post but if i'm the Rams and wanting to bring in outside help, it's someone to help beat Kyler Murray. A better DB could help but better S/LB play would definitely make a dent IMO.
Honestly Corey Littleton would be helpful.
