Jackson is paid way too much money to be a C. Massive flop of a signing if that is where he lands. We are paying him LG money.
The center (sic) is the only player who touches the ball on every offensive down.

If anything, his input is undervalued.

McVay: As he is thinking about putting Kupp at RB, Bennett at slot, Kyren punting & fielding punts, Puka playing LB, but only on passing downs...

Look at Todd stirring the pot. Glad she told him what's up
Todd has a valid point.

IF they were blown away by Avila at Center then it would not be the "best 5" to play him at OG after getting all the prep and snaps during camp.

Avila is a very good LG. Not elite there yet. Jackson is not elite at Center, probably better at LG as well. So this to some extent means Avila is not viewed as a slam dunk at the pivot.

Should have never moved him.

At least if Jackson gets hurt, we have a promising center backing him up
I suspect this could be a large part of the reasoning. Jackson has somewhat of an injury history. If he gets injured as a Center they know they have Limmer there to back him up.

Limmer >> Bruss. More OL continuity in the case of injury to Jackson and have your top reserves playing.

Sounds to me, that they trust Avila to stay healthy and would rather just plug in Limmer at C if Jonah goes down.
Rather than shuffle Avila from C to LG.

I was going to say something similar. Maybe, if we have an injury, it prevents later shuffles?

I also wonder if more compact movement at center could help Jonah’s durability?

I'll never disagree with anyone on a strong interior offensive line being important! Particularly at center.

But I don't think that makes Jackson worth the $$$ at C. Not when you look at the position's market value. Pretty sure he would be the higher paid C in the NFL at this price-tag?

Look at what RBs get paid. And they, just like centers, touch the ball more than almost anyone else. If Jackson was signed to be our C, we overpaid. They paid him as LG and I suspect that is what they brought him in for.

Does this mean Avila is not transitioning to C as well as staff hoped? Who knows. So much weird news from the Rams this week, I don't know if you can trust everything that is reported or coming out of the building, we will all just have to wait and see!

Interesting point, hadn't thought of that.

My thoughts?

They initially had concerns with C so they moved their most mobile G in Avila there and bought in a reasonably highly rated replacement in Jackson.

They couldn't have known they would strike gold with Limmer in the draft and also couldn't have known just how well he played in preseason. They now feel comfortable moving Avila back to his best spot comfortable in the knowledge that if Jackson doesn't pan out at C, they have a very good rookie waiting in the wings.

The thought of Avila at LG is just too compelling in terms of what he brings to the run game along with his pass protection being top notch.

This is a deep offensive line. It’s hard to nail the best combination and I am glad the Rams are always pushing to be the best.

Avila, Jonah, Limmer… there is a lot of flexibility inside.

I think the Rams are going to regret signing Jonah.

Obviously, they had no way of knowing that Limmer would be available when they signed Jonah, but the combination of Jonah’s injury record and Limmer’s quality means we could have gone AJ-Avila-Limmer-Dotson-Rob this season and saved ourselves a fuckload of money.

Just to reiterate: I don’t think that Jonah is a bad player, it’s just that he’s injury prone and Beaux is seriously good.
Maybe thinking that Limmer is so good, Jonah getting injured won't effect the line so much inserting the rookie in an emergency. It also won't require shifting Avila in the middle of weekly preparation during the season.

Sean on some perc or something this week man this shit is crazy seeing all the changes a week before the season starts
He does have a look.

Were going to need at least 8 quality starting caliber OL this year. Good idea to see who is interchangeable. Much relief to me after 2022 shit show.
