Okay I know Jake personally so I might have to recuse myself from this, but I do know, he has a very reliable source within the Ram organization, was the first to report that Stetson Bennett was being drafted by the Rams and i trust him unequivocally on the Johnson signing.
He was correct.

I do understand how many can be skeptical, though.

Well not to brag, but I posted the tweet about Johnson being at the Rams practice first :laugh1::laugh2::laugh3::laugh4:

Well, this signing is making me revise my opinion for this season. I felt this was going to be a throw away year in order to build resources for another run starting next year.

They signed vet depth receivers in Johnson and Robinson. An experienced corner in Witherspoon. And now an experienced safety in John Johnson.

They kept as much of the offense intact from the Superbowl team as possible. If the defense can play at a mediocre level and the offensive line can hold up, maybe this season isn't the lost season I've been thinking it will be.

JJ3 was our green dot and leading tackler the year we were Staley's #1 D. He was also reportedly a really great communicator. How do you all think he'll do in Rah's system?

With a talented yet relatively young and inexperienced secondary this addition brings leadership, experience, and maybe most of all great play-to-play communication ala Eric Weddle. It is a move that is low risk and possibly high return over a short contract period.
There isn't anything to dislike even if his production isn't what it used to be.

Seems like a good signing.. but, I'm MUCH more worried about getting another edge in. Much more.

IMO this could signal a shift in scheme away from their customary Tampa Two zone scheme to more of a Quarters scheme as used by Staley. In that scheme the role of the FS is increased and his ability to read correctly is necessary due to his multiple coverage options. What this also means is if played correctly the coverage is man within a zone concept. It's why you don't want a rookie on the back end. If played correctly it would put an end to the uber soft coverages Morris normally plays. This also could be the result of Pleasant's influence. Remember Pleasant's last year with the Rams was as Staley's DB coach.

From what little of TC that I've seen it would seem to support this change. It could also mean they feel confident of Tomlinson's ability to fill the SCB role. The quarters scheme works best with a nickel alignment or you need a good coverage LB. With Hampton's speed they could potentially have that role in him as well. Either way you need a LB that will "spy" on the RB and keep him covered.

Johnson's experience is certainly welcomed regardless, but I'm also hoping that it signals a change in how the secondary will be played i.e. a return to the aggressive style of Staley as played with Pleasant as his DB coach. This is exactly why when Pleasant was signed I immediately hoped that his experience with both Phillips and Staley would bring a return to the aggressive style of DB play.

Now go get an edge rusher and a nose tackle.

I disagree & think you’ll see

B.Young & The Brown Bro’s will have solid seasons.

I will say you can never have to many Edge Rushers & anytime The Rams can better then that’s a good thing.

I know I got 3 solid days of watching that group & 1 on1’s without a QB. You’ll see,I’ll take what I’ve seen & AD99’s word on it. In fact some of those young(veteran)guys are pushing AD99 to get better.
Johan Williams has been working hard & some of these BIG GUYS need more recovery time as well.
—Murch had an EXCELLENT day of camp & shows such a QUICK first step getting under & past the guard to get into the backfield.
—I don’t know how much of the DT group you saw,but The Bull Pen is where you see how Eric Henderson really works with this group.
—For all The Greg Gaines Fans, there’s a reason he continued to get better & it wasn’t just him.

Now go get an edge rusher and a nose tackle.

A vet Edge would fill a need and possibly help out Young. Was never a big fan, but Clowney is out there still. He obviously can command too much money since nobody is signing him.

Or fuck them picks, try to get Burns again.
