I love John Johnson but my concern is that the Rams may not have liked the guys they have in camp. I thought Quentin Lake and Russ Yeast were playing well and Fuller was almost assured to start. Perhaps not. Or maybe it was the depth behind those guys. All we know for sure is that Johnson will be starting.
It might be they just don't have any one who has the ability to make the calls right now. JJ might just keep the confusion facter down. Which will help them play faster.

What does it say about an organization that past players keep wanting to come back to? Last season aside, what a time to be a Rams fan

Always like JJ3 since drafting him. Guy has instincts. Curious to see if he has the wheels still or instincts has made up for a little lack thereof.

Anybody have any word of Quentin Johnson at camp? Haven’t heard one word about him but haven’t had much time to comb through the TC reports.

Rams base Defense will no doubt feature 3 safeties. 5 man front, Jones as the lone ILB, then one of the 3 Safeties playing in like a LB role. So basically top 3 Safeties are starters.

Yeah I will agree that the other ILB role will end up being a safety and he'll get a ton of snaps. But one problem there is we don't really have a top SS type. Ironically enough Scott would have been excellent in that usage but the guys we have now I don't think are particularly good tacklers. Which is to say I'm sure they can tackle but the box safety type are generally guys who thrive on that shit.

Ideally that role would be a guy who is a top tackler in space (can stop ball carriers in their tracks) and who can also man up a bit on lesser pass catching threats. I don't know that we have anyone of that quality, which means there is room for one of the ILBs to carve out a role. Roseboom the prob is he's a two down option and a mediocre one at that. Hummel meanwhile would have been standing out by now I'd think, given that Roseboom isn't some impossible threat on the depth chart, but he hasn't.

So idk. And as a result this is one of the areas I can't wait to watch in preseason.

I have been wondering (and looking) for a report on the contract value/terms.

According to Cameron DaSilva, it is the veteran league minimum of $1.08M.

I just don't understand how Johnson's value has dropped so precipitously for a player still in his prime.
From what I could see he played at a decent level in Cleveland but now he's only worth a minimal contract?

Supply and demand. Safeties are the RBs of defense.

Will say though that I'd love to hear JJ speak on his usage with the Browns, because he was ascending as a player when he left us.

Yep, that would be interesting. I just remember when JJ left thinking that the Browns got themselves an excellent safety and now the Rams would have to try to fill a hole with, hopefully, a player of equal abilities.
He's also a guy who stays healthy and from what I've heard is a good locker room dude.
Really don't see the loss of value unless his film is not showing well.

Really curious to see how safety shakes out this season. Jourdan says Lake, Yeast and Fuller have all done well during camp so I'm a bit perplexed at the JJ signing but perhaps he still starts eventually? Or even if he doesn't start, he's probably better than all the other backups and his experience will be helpful for the room. Seems like we also got him on the cheapest possible contract available.

Jourdan even mentioned on the pod that Lake has taken snaps at all the safety roles and the team even envisions him backing up Durant at STAR eventually... Lake could have a very bright future.

Certainly hope second year safeties Yeast and Lake develop. Then there's late round pick Jason Taylor; and priority free agent Quindell Johnson. That's four right there.

I till thinking Jordan Fuller and John Johnson start. They were the starters in 2020 for the #1 scoring defense. However, that's six safeties; and teams don't usually carry six.
