as long as I didn't put my companies name (which he didn't), there would be absolutely nothing wrong with it.
To me - here in lies the difference. You could tweet and not name your company and I'm guessing only a few would know who you were talking about. I still think it would be a bad idea. You want to discuss your situation, pick up a phone. Still, JJ can't in any kind of tunnel vision moment, think because he didn't mention the Rams that no one would realize to whom he is referring.

I'm not discounting your age argument but I will definitely argue that no matter how anyone thinks age makes it ok - it is not. Businesses don't work that way. And that is no doubt why there are not more players following suit. They realize this is not how you conduct business.

Will the Rams Be Able to Keep Their Secondary Together?

The Rams’ secondary is facing substantial turnover with a trio of DB’s contracts set to expire. How will the Rams address this? Will they be able to keep the Secondary together? Our Josh Webb talks to Scout Studios.

Unless he's franchised, Jenkins will sign with the highest bidder. Believe that

And I would be okay w/ that. If he wants the moon I hope its from Philly or Cle
Tru is the #1 option we must sign imho

no matter what figure the Rams would have gone in at (and they would have gone in low to start with) JJ and his agent would have thought they were being low-balled, e.g.:

Say JJ wanted £15m a year and the Rams offer him $15m a year for 5 years, his agent is gonna say " hey JJ we can squeeze more out of these guys if they've offered that already..." It's the way of the world, but if JJ (and his agent) is out-pricing himself, then he may go to the highest bidder.

I really don't like the schoolgirl bitching on Twitter though, so immature and very unprofessional. Football is a business, and you keep business talk private and in the board room until contracts are signed.

This is what happens when the cap increases. Player salaries go up. Revis is #1 and makes $14,024,212 per year. Byron Maxwell is at #5 with $10,500,000.

I would expect Jenks to be looking between 12-14 mill per year.

Exactly and I am sure the Rams took that into account.

He's been pretty quiet since then. Here are the only two he's tweeted since in the last couple hours. Still vague tweets that seem to be regarding his contract.... I think. Bleh, it's the slow part of the offseason. We got to talk about what we can lol.

This two tweets aren't vague.

I am guessing his agent is handling negotiations and relaying info to Jenkins. Jenkins is frustrated by this and figures if he tweets his opinion that Demoff and company will get his message.

The reality here is that the Rams know where his talent level is and they won't be paying him as the best corner in the league, because he isn't, but he probably thinks he is.

Meh I'd love to keep him but he's not all that. I'd rather save some dough and keep Tru anyways. I hope we sign Tru first so it will make any negation more leaning to the Rams. He'll go to a team with a crap D line and we'll see how much JJ gets burned and abused then.

Warning: incoming JJ love as the greatest CB of all time by @lockdnram21 !!
Whatever. But Jenkins is the only #1 cb we have if he leaves we drafting cb early or going after another top cb

I've always had this feeling that Jenkins wants more than he's worth. I personally don't think he's worth $12 million a year. He's not consistent enough and he doesn't have the size. I'd much rather sign Johnson, who I believe has more upside, and sign him for less money.
I like Tru a lot but he has trouble vs fast receivers

Jenkins is very good but not irreplaceable. In fact, he probably gives up just as many if not more big plays than any other CB in his tier of quality.

I'm only seeing these tweets now but they're definitely making me favour Johnson. Players worth constant headaches and drama in this league are few and far between. Janoris Jenkins is not among them. Do we really want to have to worry about our starting CB trashing management every time a new contract is due? Or constantly beating his chest publicly about deserving more money? Something tells me Jenkins would consider it to be poor tact if the Rams tweeted he was overpaid every time he gets burned.

I still would like to retain Jenkins if the money is right. Don't me wrong. But I'm now firmly in the "not a single penny more than he's worth" crowd. I don't think he'd be too hard to replace given how this regime drafts CBs, and the fact the cupboard is hardly bare behind him with Gaines, Joyner, and Roberson.

The Rams should just hurry up and offer him fair market value if they haven't already. If he doesn't accept, either franchise him or cut ties. No use in having the twitter circus carry on.

I think posters (and possibly players) have an exaggerated idea on how much the cap has risen. In terms of percentage, it's up just under 8.4% - significant, but if the #5 CB was getting a bit over $10 million previously, the equivalent would be around $11 million now.

Of course, JJ undoubtedly wants to be paid like the top CB, but I somehow doubt anybody would give him that much.

If he does leave the Rams though, I hope he gets every penny he wants. That would help the comp pick the Rams would get in return.

Apparently our brass doesn't agree with your assessment.

On what are you basing your assumption?

Our brass has been trying to lock him up, and has referred to doing so as a "top priority" since last off seaseo.

"have his agent announce they're looking for an outrageous number"
Just read this a few moments ago that Jenkins has just recently changed agents, suggesting he's prepared to hit the open market. Jenkins would be the top corner available if he isn't re-signed.

Yes it would be nice to sign both corners but highly UN-probable. @ this point in time it would look like the Rams Org. would seem to be leaning towards Trumaine Johnson between the two. Not because Tru is overall better but they likely feel he is more willing to come home to the Rams at a close real market level than JJ. That JJ will spend his off season trying to secure the next Darrelle Revis contract & if it takes till August JJ is fine with that.

View: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/703700980836204544

Rams have 3 other young veteran corners signed all three have started for the Rams so if they can retain Trumaine to team with EJ, Lamarcus & Marcus they can turn their attention to other more pressing concerns!

I remain completely unconcerned about the possible loss of Jenkins.

Would love to keep him, but only at a fair market value. We've got overall cap room for that, I think.

But if he walks, oh well...

We then spend that $10 million on some combo of WR, TE, DE, or LB in FA and then add CB to our draft needs list. Snead has done a great job drafting CB's, and GW and Cecil have done a great job of developing and scheming them.

The Rams are in an enviable position here regarding Jenkins.

Wish I could say the same about QB, TE, and WR.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports free agent CB Janoris Jenkins recently rejected a five-year, $45 million offer from the Rams.
Jenkins has since fired his agent and is switching to the same representation that negotiated Darrelle Revis' contract. By rule, Jenkins isn't allowed to hire an agent within five days of canning his previous one, so the Rams are now going to be up against the wall and will probably have to compete with other teams for Jenkins. The $9 million annually the Rams offered Jenkins would have made him one of the 13 highest-paid corners in annual average, but, of course, we have no idea what the guaranteed money was in the Rams' offer. Jenkins is coming off easily his best season and is probably seeking upwards of $10 million per year. Feb 28 - 3:39 PM

C'mon, the cap just went up $12M and we just cut $20M+. 5/$55M is going rate for JJ.

The amount of cap room the Rams cleared is irrelevant, of course. The cap went up just under 8.4%. The 5th highest paid CB gets just over $10 million currently - so adjusting for cap inflation about $11 million. Is JJ the 5th best CB in the league? He's never made a pro bowl. Not been an all pro, even 2nd team. I haven't noticed any independent analyses that say that he is. He's a good CB, and their offer was for a good CB. More to the point - their offer was just that. In negotiations, the other side is supposed to come back with another, higher offer - not blast the negotiating partner publically and then fire their agent so negotiations have to stop. JJ may end up getting 5/$55 million - in free agency weird things happen. But let's not pretend that cutting off negotiations in the middle and acting insulted means that the Rams were being insulting. It's business. Apparently JJ's agent realized that, and ended up being fired.

Offer 5/50. If he doesn't take it let him walk. He's pretty good, but far from the best. He wants pro bowl money but he's not a pro bowler.
