I'm shocked. This is a good get, although a touch of a gamble. The compensation doesn't bother me at all. It will be a steal if he pans out. If not, we are still the 3rd youngest team in the NFL with few holes to fill.

Pisses me off when people say "they're going all for broke this year." What, we're going to suck next year? Our QB, RB, WRs are all very young. Even our TEs. Same with many of our defensive players. O-line def could use refreshing soon, but they'll address it accordingly. Lot of guys locked up, cap space ample, no albatross long term deals as far as I can tell. And as of now, we've only traded our 2nd round pick in 2019 and a 5th rounder in 2020 since this is a comp 3rd pick going to Jax. So draft capital is there.

The good side of this trade:

1. Fowler has extremely high upside and the kind of quicks you want at ROLB in this defense.
2. Rams were desperate to add some pass rushing depth at the very least.
3. Fowler has always SAID the right things.
4. Rams held on to their top two round picks, and also avoided trading for lesser options who wouldn't have helped us.

The bad side of this trade:

1. Fowler has always not done the right things. Off the field he's been a d!ckhead.
2. Fowler has been out-competed by lesser talented players, he is lazy and has always relied on talent vice doin work.
3. Cost is a bit high for a guy who might not add much to our rush. It's no given his head will be on straight here.
4. Adding another me-first type to a great locker room.

Best case scenario is Fowler balls the F out to show well for a contract. It's possible but again I'm not going to get all excited just yet when he's coming in with significant question marks.

I really think that is the Rams strategy. Take risks on guys with short term deals so they are always on their best behavior, playing for their next contract. Give long term contracts to the guys who have proven themselves to be team players.

So your sayin' the man in a new environment, with encouragement from Aaron Freakin'Donald, Ndamukong Suh is gonna ball the F out!

I like the way you think...I'll be watching you...

Checking in with Jaguars fans:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/10/30/rams-acquiring-dante-fowler-from-jaguars/#comments

Got most of his sacks on stunts and games. He’s got a gift for it though. Good closer. He also shows up in big games. Has the making of a Super Bowl hero. One of those guys who’s okay most of the time and just balls out in the big game. Seems like an expensive rental but if you win the championship then who cares?
--------------
On the field, can be great. Off the field, a fool.
--------------
He’s done almost nothing this year. Suspended the first game. And only 2 sacks and 8 tackles the next seven.

And he is supposedly not a great presence in the locker room.
-------------
He was good when he was on the field. He just had Ngakoue and Campbell in front of him. He has a very high motor, coming from a jags fan, but also watched him in college as a Gators fan
--------------
Fowler now knows what it feels like to hit the lottery.
--------------
Rams Nation,

He’s a great value to your already stiff def. He’s a team player & def not a bad guy w a bunch of off-field issues the media portrays him out to be.

Only realistic knock on him was consistency (was getting better w that this yr) & creating more pass-rush moves besides a bullrush & a spin move. He has tremendous speed but can often times take himself out of a play.

Overall he’s solid & has what it takes to be a superior player, just needs to gel everything together. Playing alongside Donald should accelerate his play. Great value for both teams. Good luck
--------------
Solid rotational pass rusher. Will probably excel much more as an OLB in a 3-4 than as a down 4-3 end.

Some off field stuff but nothing terribly serious like DUIs or multiple drug pops.

As someone above said… lots of stunts got him his stats with us… but out of the 34 he probably will fare better.

Rams got a solid player for a SB push Jags get picks for a guy they weren’t gonna pay after this season anyway.

a rare win/win in a trade, imo.

Good signing to address a glaring need at edge rusher. Curious to see the OLB rotation, I expect Fowler to be sprinkled in obvious passing situations for the time being until he's fully settled. Rotation will consist of Ebukam, Longacre, Littleton, and now Fowler.

As for the off the field problems, I expect Papa Talib to keep him in check.

Big upgrade for the Rams, Fowler is a talented player. Wade will put him in spots to excel. Hopefully, the Rams can keep Fowler around, if not a draft pick will come back when he signs elsewhere. Dont worry about losing draft picks, Snead always finds a way around that.

Off the field sounds shaky.

The locker room will be fine because the Rams really don't have that kind of shit.

Hope we've rented a pass rusher!

Can we now call the Rams "Dream Team"? I mean at this point, from top to bottom (Ownership, Coaching, Players, Offense, Defense, Special Teams), what else is it if not?

My first impressions...

What nice news to read upon waking from my nap! Lol.

Gotta trust Wade/McVay/Snead on this decision ‘cause Fowler was biggest risk/biggest reward option to bolster our edge rush situation. I have more character and maturity concerns about Fowler than I ever did about any of Talib, Peters, or Suh.

I do love the Ram aggression in pushing the limits in their SB quest.

We shouldn’t fret about the 3rd round cost for a player with such high potential at a position of crying Ram need. Might be a steal if Wade can work his magic and the locker room can get Fowler squared away quickly maturity wise. I’m willing to bet on Wade and our team leaders here.

If this doesn’t work out, a future comp pick would reduce the downside.

Always seems preferable to pursue a solution aggressively rather than to try to cope passively. “No guts, no glory” comes to mind.

I’ve been posting for weeks that an upgrade at edge seemed necessary if we are serious about a SB. Well, the Rams must have felt more or less the same and had the cashews to make their move.

The Rams chose the most attractive option for long term benefit. We at least know that the kid can play. Fowler could be somewhere from very good to near elite depending on his desire and work ethic. He will certainly NOT lack for good examples surrounding him and superior coaching, that’s for sure. Better decision than settling for “pretty good” options or non fits for Wade’s system.

I’m certain that the Rams were given permission to talk with Fowler and to therefore determine that his head was into this move. He must have passed that test.

We might still see Obo getting snaps in the season’s 2nd half. Meaning that there will be even further competition for edge playing time. Always a good thing.

If Fowler blossoms here, can you imagine how effective AD/Suh/Brockers become? Could be scary, y’all.

I’m guessing that Wade has a smile ear to ear this afternoon.

All in all, this sure seems like a move well worth making.

Well worth a Hot Damn.
Just one question if I may?
Just how long was that nap? Damn Man!

I swear... I wouldn't know what in the hell you guys were saying to me if I came over to the UK, but I get a good laugh out of your slang. Translating the slang and trying to figure out why the words were choosen... head scratchingly hilarious!

Good Stuff

Right!
I just finished job where about 50% of the crew came from the U.K
the colloquialisms were in abundance. It was challenging and amusing at the same time
In the end I enjoyed "knocking around with them"
