To be clear, it's on Denvers cap. But its accounting magic and the point is, we are living above our means this year.
My point is that it is semantics. Let's say you take me to lunch (cause you're nice), and your wife gave you a budget of $50 to spend on lunch. Let's say the bill came, and because we agreed to get an appetizer it ended up being $55. You only have $50, if you spend more than $50 your wife will get real mad at you. So we can do a little bit of accounting magic:
1st option - I can give you $5. Then you can go pay the bill. Problem though! I give you $5 in cash, and you pay the whole bill on your card. Your wife gets a text notification that you spent $55 dollars. Uh-oh she's mad, even though you only spent $50 of your own money. (This example would be the case if somehow we could buy cap space from Denver, its not possible)
2nd option - You can ask the server to split the bill, you pay $50, and I'll pay $5. Your wife will get the text notification for $50 and nobody is mad. (This is what happened with Denver and Von Miller trade)
The original point is just, Option 2 is effectively like Option 1. At the end of the day, you had a $55 dollar lunch and you only had to pay $50 dollars. That's it, that was the point. Talk on actual cap implications were outside of that original point
