Our picks will be late anyway. The future is now. If this pushes the Rams over the edge, it is a small price to pay. My only fear is that Von Miller might be a "has been", and is just living off name recognition at this point / won't actually improve our roster. If that happens, we really screwed up trading away two decently high picks. Some Broncos fans are saying that Miller has been meh for a few years now. Time will tell. I am optimistic. Playing next to Aaron Donald will maximise anyone's game. Miller has elite level talent. I think he will make a big impact. But the trade is not without risk.
Isn't Donald 31, I heard Miller is 32. Miller very possibly still has plenty of gas in the tank. Have him work the off season with AD.

They always do some together. Miller holds a pass rush camp or summit whatever it's called and AD is there every year.

You often don't have a real window to win it all. We do now. The Superbowl is in OUR HOUSE. You make any move you can to win NOW.

What makes this better is that giving up a 2nd and a 3rd on a young team potentially has little if any future impact as our organization drafts and pulls in udrfa players like pretty much no one else.

AAAAAAAAAAND... How much longer do you have players like Whit, Staff, and AD? Go out and GET THEM A RING!

This trade helps the Rams effectively go *over* the Salary Cap significantly. That's a big deal. You can add it to the cost of the dead cap carried, but... I'll take it.

How are the Rams way over the cap?

You may very well be right but I don't have any control over that and those that do seem to have a better grasp on it than most in the league. I tend to let them worry about it.

Denver eating his contract means the Rams are getting him for less than a million dollars for the rest of the season. while he's making 9.7.
So you're saying it adds 9.7 to our current cap? I'm not sure that's how it works.

His remaining salary is $9.7 million. They're reportedly paying $9 million of that leaving us with a $700k cap hit this year for Von.

I don't think that's the case.

According to Spotrac, which is one of the two salary cap sites I value, Miller counts for $722,000 against the Rams' 2021 cap; and the rest of his salary is on Denver's books.

Over-the-Cap has not yet up-dated

No but its semantics. Imagine this:

Rams trade 2nd round pick and receive Von Miller.

In this scenario, rams keep Von's $9.7M in cap hit. This puts us over the cap and wouldn't be allowed. So Snead goes back and say "Hey, will throw in a 3rd round draft pick if you cover $9M of Von's salary." It doesn't really matter if that $9M is on our cap or Broncos, but it effectively allows us to go over the cap. It doesn't literally give us $9M in cap, but effectively $9M for one of our players is being paid by the Broncos.

I think the “effectively” means we’re basically using a roster that’s 9M over the cap without the Broncos eating the salary

When we win it all, I expect a proposal from a team that will make “buying draft picks” illegal. I don’t think it will pass, but it will have some support.

I appreciate what @Kupped was getting at, but dunno how that works when our FO is super aggressive and some aren’t so comparisons aren’t Apple to Apple.

We all know how great Von is that is not the issue for me.

Short term he will most likely be a plus, but long-term we lose 2 more semi valuable draft picks and to me he is oh the backside of his career I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

We imo should want Howard or Jack you pay for them but we get a solid 4 plus top notch play out of them. How much longer do we keep Von? We need depth always and we are killing what little draft capital we have. I'm d gladly pay for a stud in his prime like Ramsey was. That was Von 6 years ago at age 26 now he is 32 no disrespect i truly wish you the best. Honestly it is not about the picks, it's a the logic behind this deal why. I get short term as I said but what about the future. He is not the future that is why I think it was a bad move.

What's he's actually saying is it's a screaming deal. Or if not he should be.
