Used to have warm fuzzies about the Lions club. NOT ANYMORE. Been dirty for a long time. Sickening hit. The NFL needs to fine several Lions players & investigate their coaching staff for headhunting a la Greg Williams.

Like many here I had a bit of a soft spot for the Lions due to Goff and company and was rooting for them this past season. But that's over now. Bunch them in with the rest of teams that I can't wait to see get sent home.

I can get past the non-hokding call on Puka because the refs suck at times but the head-hunting shot by that linebacker AFTER the pass should have been called a late hit or hitting a defenseless receiver or something. That was pure Bush league.

So many issues. The worst one for me was the Stafford hit. Especially after watching every game this weekend and seeing roughing the QB called EVERY TIME for actions 1/2 as bad or even incidental. This was ON PURPOSE, LATE, and MEANT TO TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME.

The NFL refs and the inability for the league to institute a simple procedure to fix it (I have a lengthy post on how this could be done easily) is the single worst thing about watching the games. Embarrassing that college football is closer to the right system.

It was more a juggle by Higbee than a bad ball by Stafford that prevented Higbee from protecting himself from a legal hit.

The injury looks so bad i wonder if Higbee will retire. I know we just signed him to an extension but no way can we go into next season with the expectation that he will be the starter.
No way, Higbee bobbling has nothing to do with it in my eyes. If you re-watch the video, Kerby is clearly targeting his lower leg/knee area. He comes in super low to begin with. Fuck him and the dirty ass Lions.

He hit a defenseless receiver at the knees... the refs need an official in the booth watching replays and with the authority to stop play and over rule the call or NO CALL on the field. The game is too fast to be judged purely by officials on the field.

Simple rule change...you can't launch with your head or shoulder at the knees of a defenseless receiver. And they look for lack of a wrapping tackle and the launching with the defensive player's head being down.

What a fucking idiot. Head first. I'm sure Lions fans wouldn't have gone after Higbee had he soccer kicked dude in the ear.

It kinda like, well sine Jared sorta got screwed in the trade, the Lions have not won a playoff game in a bazzillion years its OK to play dirty, call penalties on the Rams when none happened and not call penalties on the Lions when they were obvious .
Fuck that BULLSHIT.
I went from saying if the Rams can not pull this one out I will root for the Lions.
I hope they get their brains beat in with plenty of cheap shots. I hope Evens goes for 200 yards and forearms that MuthaFucker in the throat on the way to a 90 yard touchdown.
And now seeing we would have had the Bucs at home, Fuck the Lions.
Shit organization that does not know how to win the right way.

Why is it a penalty to barely hit a QB low like that and not one on a vicious hit on a te's knee?

I feel like the whole Lions organisation doesn’t know how to win. Dirty hits and talking shit - no doubt they will get a reality check
The take on the Lions pre-game:

Young and aggressive. Yes.
Talented. Yes.
Dirty. No
Shit-talkers. No.

I think they were in the moment fueled by their “bite their kneecaps” coaching philosophy. It worked for the first 30 minutes for sure. But the Rams had a number of opportunities to put them
On their ass in the 2nd half and didn’t. That extra 5% that was needed just wasn’t there. But starting this offseason they need to find that extra 20% needed to be a true NFL contender. Time to cut bait on some and find others.

Look how low he's already aiming. Fuckin scum
And he isn't even looking.

I agree with some people that they should make it a rule that if you are going low that you need to keep the head up.

I bet defensive players won't go for the knee thinking that the knee will hit them in the face.

Pretty reckless to not even look either. Just so much to hate about that hit.

I agree with all of you.

That 4th down "false start" that the refs botched at the end of the 2nd quarter really changed the outcome of the game.

I agree @PhillyRam .

In Australian Rules Football you would almost get a life ban for that. Has been a big issue with players sliding in shoulders first in their frantic attempt to win the ball and taking out an upright standing players legs out resulting in broken legs and ACL tears.

Much the same with the below the leg QB rule the NFL has to adjust the targeting rule to prevent shoulder charges below the knee. If the Lions player chooses to tackle this doesn't happen.

Not only for the players legs but the resultant force caused Higbee to flip and he was lucky he didn't break his spine.
