I’m getting more upset by this the more I think about it…

I don't think that kid would say something like this unless it's part of the Lions' culture -- and that's on Campbell.
If that can be proven, he could get the Asshole Face treatment.

I would be mortified if a Rams player did that. That's not them.

I remember years back when a Rams db, can't or don't want to remember his name, gave a vicious helmet to helmet shot on a (stealers?) receiver. I think he ended his career. I couldn't believe a Rams player did that. Had to be during the fisher years.

.

Blake Countess's headshot on Marquise Goodwin (69ers) might be what you're thinking about, and it was in the McVay era. It didn't end Goodwin's career...but it was scary, and I've never been so pissed at a Rams player for a cheap shot before. Lamarcus Joyner on Teddy Bridgewater is understandable since Bridgewater slid at the very last second when Joyner had committed. Countess had no such excuse; he lined up Goodwin to make a killshot.

Long story short, I don't want the Rams to stoop to the level the Lions did. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

The best retaliation would be a convincing win. And competent officiating; I do hope the Rams are pissed about that no-call with Puka our final drive. They should be.

I also remember (slightly) a Rams DB using our a Broncos WR.. but the names are escaping me

edit- it was Emanuel Sanders with a concussion after a hit by Rodney McLeod

It was a punk arse pussy hit. He wasn't man enough to tackle him properly.

.
I always liked you but I think you’re wrong here amigo

4th quarter, Rams down by only 1, playoff game somebody is going home

6’6” TE over the middle vs 6’0” string bean, what was string bean to do? Higgs would have plowed him had he hit him “properly “

I would have hit him low too, it was that or concede a playoff loss

Two things;

1) Hey Matthew, stop leading your receivers into ambush hits over the middle

2) Hey Matthew, 0-3 TDs in the RZ is losing football

This season opener should be epic!

Football is a rough game. No need to cheap shot. Just knock the snot out of them. The perception of an agenda for revenge wouldn't hurt.....could keep his head on a swivel and make his job more difficult....but that might also make the Ram's job more difficult. Just beat the shit out of them...all.

Agree he had to go low. But torpedo tackle directly at the knee is bullshit when he had time to hit him in thigh, hip, waist etc. and mfer has a history of doing the same to other players resulting in serious injury. If the Lions are coaching that, the NFL needs to warn them. If dude is doing it himself, Lions need to coach him up. One more and I believe pitchforks and torches are coming his way.

The league obviously wanted the Lions in the post season or that hit would have been flagged.

You are 100% correct. But I must admit I would have also went low on him in that situation. Hopefully he makes it back from this.

Here’s a reasonable take from Reddit post:

Are hits to ball carriers knees illegal?

No, it’s not illegal. However, it’s understood by defenders to not aim for the knees and legs if they can, or else they’ll be labeled as “dirty” by some players and fans. But it’s not possible to always avoid contact like that when a play is going on.

Kerby Joseph for the Lions was called dirty for his hits to the knees of TJ Hockenson and Tyler Higbee, but the intent to injure wasn’t there. Just 2 unfortunate accidents in close proximity. My add: ‘2 avoidable accidents”.
